Does anyone know if junior applicants can receive sgrs?
@uscdream19 they can if they’re taking important prereqs for their major in spring. All of my friends who are junior applicants and taking calculus in spring have already received a sgr. A few are still waiting for a sgr though
@pomeranian4rich hmm you happen to know if accounting 1b is a prereq? It just says that 1a-1b is recommended. I have already taken 1a but am currently taking 1b. Thanks and congrats btw!!
has any received a SGR who’s applying to Annenberg? Is it a good sign or bad sign if I haven’t gotten one yet? I’m so nervous!
@uscdream19 Thank you!
I don’t think it is. It should be recommended. if acct1b is your only prereq and you’re just taking GE this semester, I don’t think a sgr is necessary if they have a good reason to admit you right now because of your ec, essay, and letter of rec.
@jonathaanv oh ok. You’d be a rising junior right? If so, you would get in before me… I’d recommend looking at University Gateway, Tuscany, and Lorenzo if on campus housing is full.
@pomeranian4rich have you applied for housing yet? I swore there’d be a lot more housing available this time around with the addition of the village, but someone’s claiming that all on campus housing is full already, which doesn’t even make sense because even last year on campus housing didn’t fill up till the end of May… and they didn’t have the village lol
@jonathaanv There’s no guaranteed housing for transfer students so it’s likely we all have to find non uni owned housing like the Lorenzo or something if USC housing is already full
Why can’t Usc be like ucla which guarantees housing for the first year to all transfers :////
@penntousc I have to wait 24 hours after my enrollment before I can apply for housing. I’m not registered into the housing system yet even though I have access to Oasis right now lol.
@pomeranian4rich oh ok
@pomeranian4rich yeah I’m finishing g up my last ge this semester and have ec, loc, and solid essays for them to look at. Anyways we’ll see. Thanks for your help once again!
Yeah not having guaranteed housing is a huge negative. Hopefully the off campus options aren’t horrible as far as rates and lease agreements go
@smh101 Yeah, I think that’s the case with most universities. You pretty much only see your financial aid summary/package once they’ve accepted you When I was rejected in 2014, my financial aid still had “in-review” or something like that for about a year until it finally went away, lol.
UCLA’s SIR is due June 1st and I’m assuming that my financial aid information for USC won’t come until after. I can just submit my SIR to UCLA and then cancel if I choose to attend USC in the end right?
@pomeranian4rich do you think I will get an SGR if I have calc 1 in progress right now even though I completed business calculus with an A last semester? I am only taking calc 1 right now cause I applied to some schools that don’t allow business calc to be a substitute for calc 1 for Econ majors. I’m a junior applicant btw
@cassidylynnn I don’t think they will if you have completed all the other prereqs and the recommended courses. I’m taking calculus 3 this semester even though I already satisfied the math requirement, so I don’t think they will send you a sgr if you’ve already completed the business calculus.
I noticed online under the “meet the admissions counselors” that they have different titles, like associate director or senior assistant director, etc. Does that mean some counselors have more power/weight than others?
@delzz321 I actually did some research on their job responsibilities a few months ago lol and I think they have equal power/weight with other admission counselors, I’m assuming 3 or 4 admission counselors read your app and rate it with a score. Or it might actually be one admission counselor who reads the apps that are in their territory.
Assistant Director’s Job Accountabilities: " Evaluates admission application materials (e.g., forms, high school and college transcripts, standardized test scores, essays and other student-submitted writing samples, activity lists, recommendations and interview notes. Makes admission decisions, without specific guidelines, that are highly individualized and based on a comprehensive evaluation of the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the materials as well as a thorough understanding of the University’s educational philosophy and enrollment goals "
Job Summary: “Serves as an expert regarding the college admission process for college counselors, principals and heads of schools in assigned territory. Interviews prospective students to evaluate suitability for admission. Evaluates applications, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and makes admission decisions.”

@delzzz321 I’m assuming some of them don’t actually carry much responsibility in individual decisions. Like maybe the top level counselor is really just more of a figurehead. The only reason I’m saying this is because one of my professors was throwing some mean shade at the president of USC, lol. She was saying how he doesn’t really do much to keep the university running and is really more of a decoration. She said it was the provost who does a lot of the day to day work like assisting in hiring new professors, etc. So I’m guessing the dude that signs all of the decision letters doesn’t really do much in deciding our fate. Okay, my little rant is over ~O)
@pomeranian4rich did you talk to your counsellor in any way to get more info about your app?
