@cassidylynnn You know what, I thought Calc 2 was a req. I just called the admissions counselor and she did not know the reason for the SGR. She said she’ll get back to me later in the afternoon, so I will get back to you on that. I also asked for my GPA because I know USC doesn’t allow repeats. According to their evaluation, I currently have a 3.58 GPA with 70+ credits so far. 3.58 should be a straight rejection considering how competitive Marshall is, but I guess they are considering the upward trend and my essays.
@pomeranian4rich I just joined your Facebook group; thanks for accepting.
@pomeranian4rich oh wow. Why? Do some schools’ calc 1 class not match up with USC’s or something? @buskev ohhhh okay. Well that’s unfortunate. I’m sorry about that
Hi all,
I’ve been checking the forum for a family member, but transferred to USC and graduated recently. I wanted to clear up some misconceptions that people on here are incorrectly touting as fact.
I transferred as a sophomore. I had 17 units completed at a 4.0 GPA, with 15 in progress in the spring. I applied undeclared, so there were no major requirements for me to complete. However, the English course required was in progress when I applied. I did NOT get an SGR, and they DID NOT look at my high school grades, because upon completion I was going to have 32 units (which is exactly what a sophomore at USC would have). I was admitted on May 3 and was not on TTP.
It’s likely that someone applying to Marshall without the calculus course completed will receive an SGR, because Marshall really emphasizes the importance of that class (even to internal transfers already at USC). However, being a sophomore applicant does not guarantee an SGR nor does it mean your high school grades will be considered (mine were seriously horrendous with a downward trend). My acceptance was conditional with a requirement to maintain a 3.5 GPA in the Spring. I completed my 32 units with a 3.96 GPA.
@hyethga4lyfe I’ve applied for Marshall with a 4.0, completed the calc requirement in the fall, and am currently taking only the english requirement, an elective stat class, and 3 GE courses. I’ll also have 32 transferable units completed by the end of the spring semester… so based on what you’re saying, there is actually a chance that I could be accepted without an SGR? I won’t be disappointed if I get one since most sophomores do, but obviously getting the SGR means I’m less likely to be able to get on campus housing if accepted.
@hyethga4lyfe was that stated on you conditional agreement on your acceptance letter? mine is very vague it says my admission is contingent on the verification of officials record. no gpa requirement was specified on mine.
@cassidylynnn yeah i think that’s the case but oh well
@pomeranian4rich how many of your friends received sgrs? And when?
Hi everyone! I just got a financial aid summary emailed to me last night. Also, in my portal, the top of the financial aid summary says my class (undergraduate) and major (business admin.). Does that mean anything? I haven’t received my letter yet. Thank you!
@jieunh yup you’re in!! Congtrazz
Please post stats in thread
Update: My mom just texted me that the letter just arrived to my house.
Guess, financial aid may come first.
guys im a marshall applicant and I am taking calc 2 atm spring quarter, but I didnt take Calc 1 since USC only accepts Calc 2 in my school. I have 3.89gpa and completed 8/10 GEs should I be worried since I didnt take Calc 1 and went straight to Calc 2.
and am I guaranteed an SGR since my Calc req. is in progress?
@jieunh congrats!
we’d all really appreciate it if you could post your stats in the stats thread below! thanks!
@pomeranian4rich there was a report included behind my acceptance letter in the packet. the report detailed my class standing at the time (it said freshman, since all 32 units hadn’t been completed yet), courses transferring and in progresss, and a section detailing the 3.5 GPA requirement. They check that you’ve met the requirement at orientation - you bring your final transcript and they lift a registration hold (you register for classes that day). That’s how it was when I got
in, not sure if that specific process has changed since.
@usc4ever how’d you only take calc 2? if you have AP credit for calc 1 I’m pretty sure that satisfies the requirement too
@penntousc i think it’s possible for you to be admitted without an SGR, since your major requirement has been fulfilled (assuming they’ve seen the completed course/grade and you’ve performed well in the classes you’ve taken). I had my english requirement in progress and it didn’t affect my admission, though at the time I thought it would.
Hey lads,
My financial aid status still remains as “Action Required” when I already have submitted all required documents (I may be wrong) FAFSA and CSS. Have I not submitted all documentation or has it simply not been updated?
@jieunh Congrats! Way to go!
Does anyone know why we’ve only been seeing sporadic acceptances and not just a huge batch roll out? I looked through past threads from 2014-15 and noticed a lot of people posting acceptances within the same day
@hyethga4lyfe alright, thanks for the response! this whole time I thought for sure I’d get stuck with an SGR, but now I’m a little more hopeful knowing that a straight up acceptance isn’t necessarily out of the question!
@penntousc I had a 3 on the ap exam so my school gave me credit for the first calc class, but USC dosent accept 3s so ye
