@bugajskj but for sure Marshall>UCLA econ.
yes I found out first when my financial aid changed to in review with that exact same message. It still shows that message. Still no email etc. so I had a feeling it was good news but no idea until I got home late last night from college and saw the package my mom opened!!! Also I live in LA 20 minutes from USC so it makes sense my mail arrived fast. @usc2563
I posted about this ( the comment above)
my financial aid changed to in review, and it stopped showing that they were asking for my noncustodial css it came off of required docs. I didn’t get an email from them saying my waiver was approved until today. I received my package yesterday… no other emails or updates online but I live near USC. (Price major, posted stats) @penntousc @MakeItHappenUSC
@jonathaanv Yeah, I think my university grant alone is almost 50K. They try to make it cheap, but a lot of that cost is because of housing. It would probably be around 10K out of pocket if you have no interest living on-campus or have alternate plans for cheaper housing. Anyway, hope you have good luck with financial aid.
@millaportman They said it would be around 30 minutes, but I think my interview was more like 20 minutes. I knew somebody that was a Topping Scholar and she really pushed me to apply. However, even with her prepping me for the interview, I still messed up =\ They basically asked questions like “What have you done for the community?” “How has being low-income affected your studies? What troubles have you faced in regards to your educational costs?”, etc. They basically wanted to see how you’ve helped the community and how you would continue to help out if you were made a Topping Scholar as they do have mandatory events (like I believe hosting a Halloween event for children in the South LA area).
Do they send an e-mail to when ur accepted or you just get a letter in the mail?
@itslife123 Well, I didn’t choose to live on-campus and my aid was the exact same for somebody that would be living on-campus (according to their financial aid calculator) Maybe they didn’t care?
Edit: Actually, I don’t think I changed my housing status, but they still didn’t give me less aid a result. They didn’t ask for proof of housing like UCLA wanted.
@HarvardJones True but I would rather be trained as a mini CEO than economics which is almost pure theory in itself. I am 30 years old and I have been out in the world, I understand that experience and action trumps knowledge any day of the week. STEM degrees beat business degrees all day as well, I get it. I already have experience though, I just need the resources and the piece of paper to get to the next level. I am interested in the entrepreneurial aspect of USC as well, not looking to work a 9-5 for the rest of my life at a bank.
With that being said, I have some questions for you after calc class! lol
On my financial aid portal for 2017-2018 it says “Under Review” also. Isn’t everyones like that?
how likely are you to be accepted if you get a SGR
@bugajskj lol I completely agree… I get depressed imagining what working a 9-5 for the next 40 years would look like… not pretty lol
@zettasyntax Thank you so much for sharing. That’s extremely helpful. Jeez . . . 30 minutes is a long time to have to talk. And it’s kind of unfortunate that they would reduce your financial aid for earning a scholarship. If you’re still just as deep in a financial hole as before, then how does a scholarship even help you?
Questions:
1- What is the hardest class you have taken?
2-How hard are upper classes at Marshall, compared to say…calculus 2?
3-Do you know anything about the entrepreneur programs?
4-Does USC help you find internships, etc…I mean really go out of their way to help?
5-How are the resources to find jobs while in school?
6-How are people at business school in general?
7-What is your schedule like on an average school week?
I appreciate the responses! Thanks.
I started working with start-ups since the age of 14. Three years later found my way into Silicon Valley. Now I have ties with Y-Combinator. All of you can do great things, it’s just a question of mastering your craft, taking action, working smart, taking smart risk, and patience.
@penntousc coming in late here since I was studying for my calc exam all of yesterday but I can’t believe someone was actually trying to prove that Ecs are that important I’m sorry but have yet to see someone with a 4.0 all pre reqs completed, GEs completed, full time student get rejected. The 4.0 rejections are the guys why literally didn’t do any of that and decided to bulk up on ecs that don’t mean anything. This just bothers me cause prospective transfers in future will read these forums and get wrong information!
@pantafootball2 EXACTLY… lol I wouldn’t even be able to count the amount of people that have come in here with a ridiculously long list of ECs but are rejected because of low GPA, missing requirements, or a lack of completed GEs. If USC is the goal, people should be putting ECs dead last on their list of priorities. Not that they are completely worthless, but they won’t make up for blotches on the applicant’s academic record. It’s easy to understand why people would think otherwise since just about every other really good school school cares about ECs a lot, but when they come in here and argue to no end… it’s just a lost cause lol
@penntousc yeah it’s simple do those too three things and you’ll be fine … don’t go out of the way to stack up on Ecs do that stuff when you’re admitted but for now anyone who is looking into applying to USC needs to know three words , gpa, GE, full-time hahaha the simple three
I just checked my portal and more information has been requested for my financial aid application (earlier today it said I had everything completed) but I haven’t heard anything for my actual application. Do you think this is a good sign? Or is it just nothing
I just checked my portal and under required documents its asking for my college transcripts, i sent my fall transcript months ago could this be an SGR?
@osu2usc It’s not a guarantee – but for what it’s worth, I got a similar request from Financial Aid just before I received my acceptance package.
@osu2usc Hey ! i just got the notif in my portal too, what did it ask for you. I have completed everything for the financial aid months ago so I am not sure what this means. Does anyone else know?
