Has the freshman applicant portal glitch happened to anyone else here?
Anyone who Applied to Viterbi, May 23rd is the Magic date. From threads dating back to 2013. All notifications on that day were 99% acceptances. SGR’s come later.
@itslife123 too bad theres no magic date for Dornsife… Or I just haven’t managed to find it haha
For those who have the freshman applicant gltich, did you apply during highschool to USC before?
@itslife123 Ah, during finals week. This should be interesting.
@IwcWombat I applied in highschool 2 years ago for the RHP. Do you have the glitch too? and what did you apply for?
for those admitted-- where are you guys requesting to live for on-campus housing?
@nayu917 No, I’m just thinking that these errors are because USC’s system still has data when you applied during highschool. I don’t see the error and I never applied during high school. Applied for Computational Neuroscience! Dornsife
did anyone activate their USC netID yet to get a usc email address? What’s the 10-digit USC ID number? I thought it was the 10 digit number on my admission letter but it doesn’t work!
@whooosh http://orientation.usc.edu/transfer/summer/dates-and-deadlines/
transfer summer orientation dates are on that link, hope this helps!
I’m trying to figure out if theres any possible way to pick classes before orientation since the only one I could attend is August 11th, and a few of my classes I’m required to take in the fall are almost full.
Also does anyone here know how important it is to be in Los Angeles 1-2 weeks before classes start on August 21st?
I will most likely be commuting from larchmont village/ hancock park so I wouldn’t need to be there for the housing welcome days. Other than orientation on August 11th, is there any specific important date that I should be in LA for?
I’m thinking about going on a short trip but I want to make sure I don’t miss out on anything that is very exciting/important school wise.
I’m waiting to hear back from Marshall as well! I was doing some googling to see if anyone has received their letters and came across this thread. Awesome! Good Luck everyone. There is still time left.
@Frustrated86
Did your financial aid come through yet? My letter was dated May 2nd and if I start counting on the 2nd then tomorrow will be the 6th business day… I see why your username is frustrated now lol
@zettasyntax
Are you a current USC student, what is your major and have how you liked your classes?
Also I’m confused about how some classes have lectures and discussions… on the fall 2017 schedule on USC website it just seems to show the main lecture/class times… how do you know ahead of time so classes don’t conflict?
I’ve never had classes formatted this way. Santa Monica college is just small class size with lecture/discussion? all in one.
Vanderbilt or USC?
Whichever one is most affordable. Everyone here is antsy about getting in, but what they should be most concerned about is how they’re going to afford USC if they don’t get the bountiful financial aid package they think they’re going to get. A USC undergrad degree is not worth going in debt for 40K+. Most people here are too blinded by the glitz of USC to care about taking out ludicrous loans at the moment that will come back to haunt them later on. Don’t make that mistake.
@usc2563 I think so… I got into price and I have 3 friends that got into Marshalls (1 was TPP)
and my good friend is waiting to hear back and she has all prerec/ge done, over 3.7 I think, so who knows…
@tayloralext Yup, I’m currently a senior at USC (so I’ll be graduating in like 3 days). My major is computational linguistics. It’s mainly a linguistics degree, but I have to take certain Viterbi courses (for the “computational” part, I suppose). I’ve overall enjoyed the courses I’ve taken. My top three courses have been: LING 385, WRIT 340, and LING 115. LING 385 and LING 115 also double as GE courses that I’d recommend people on here take; especially 115 - everybody seems to like that class
I’m also liking CSCI/ITP 368, but I have to see my grade in that class before I rank it along with those three. I’ve found that USC classes can be quite tough. I know this really smart girl that’s had a particular professor in three different courses and she’s never received a grade higher than a B+. It’s insane because she’s really quite a whiz kid, but I’ve found it pretty difficult to get A’s (without the minus) in a lot of courses.
As for the lectures and discussions, you can enroll in any discussion. I do think it’s a little confusing how it has the lecture section and then a ton of discussions listed under it, but you can enroll in any of them. Most GE courses for instance have a discussion requirement/component. If you don’t have access to myUSC yet, I’m afraid the only way to know is the old-fashioned method of writing out the lecture times and discussions to see if any of your planned courses overlap. The registration component of myUSC lets you add courses to your course bin and you’ll be able to see how your intended courses look on a planner/calendar. They should initially all be yellow since you can’t register yet, but if there’s any overlap, they will appear as red. Typically, professors will allow an overlap of about 20 minutes if there’s simply no other way for you to fit all the courses you want to take, but that can be a bit annoying. I had to do that this semester and I felt bad walking into class 20 minutes late
Waiting until 2 AM to see if the freshman applicant portal changes :\
4 more minutes @nayu917
@Garciabusiness lol rip no change. If it doesn’t change back later on today I might give them a call
@eden97 It takes a few days I committed on Sunday and it says wrong birthday/ID. My friend committed a few days before and it said that for a few days and then a few days later it said “We don’t have all your information in the system yet” and yesterday he was able to log on
