2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@yellinfor it doesn’t work that way. People who jot down dornsife as their first major always get picked over the ones who put it as their second choice. If they don’t think you’re good enough for your first major, it’s uncommon that they take you in as dornsife as second considering it’s so competitive and others have pre-req’s for their majors there done.

@yellinfor haha I can relate… I feel confident when I read over my app lol but anything can happen. I feel like most applicants that have been accepted into Marshall have 3.8-4.0 while I’m mid 3.75ish anyways best of luck for us! Hope we hear soon

This wait is killing me. I’m about to just say fuck USC and SIR to Berkeley.

@jdfinancialsec I understand that; there are so many people that are probably more qualified than me in general just because everyone who applies are such competitors. I do have all the prereqs done for both majors I picked though, which is why I was wondering!

Hey! Does anyone know if it’d hurt to send USC an update with college activities at this time? I know that GPA is the key but as a sophomore applicant from a quarter system school, I had only been in college for three months when I submitted my apps and basically had nothing on the activities page (except for high school ones). Any idea/comment is appreciated. Thanks in advance & congrats to those already accepted!

@InfiniteHH98 Most of the schools don’t really pay attention to extracurriculars.

@InfiniteHH98 I feel like you should just because it shows that you’re still thinking about them and it’s good to keep them updated…but @usc2563 is also right bc they don’t look at extracurriculars too much. Maybe they’ll still take it into consideration though?

Thanks to the people who showed us the my.usps thing. Now every time I get a notification for a random bill I ride a roller coaster of emotions.

@jdfinancialsec What makes you say that? Does Marshall typically release all their acceptances really early and then dole out rejections? Have most applicants already heard back?

@Shuisazn @InfiniteHH98 I feel like the only thing they want sent to them that they haven’t asked for is official transcripts though.

I think that maybe calling your admission counselor and asking if they would want an update would be a good idea if that’s the route you want to go down? Because then they can say yes or no and they’ll know you’re still interested since you contacted them. And if they say no, then they won’t have more documents to sort through!

Hey guys random question, so for my dream job I put hip hop artist/rapper is this bad? Were we supposed to put like dream job related to our major? Cuz what I put down is truly my dream job but I know it won’t happen.

@Skepta well, I mean, it’s too late to do anything about what you put on the application now, so I would take a deep breath and try to stop stressing!

Also the questions are supposed to be silly/reveal a little about your personality, so it isn’t like they’re gonna reject you based on just that answer alone.

@uscdream19 I have around the same GPA, Marshall applicant still nothing too :frowning:

Dornsife applicant, incoming sophomore. Accepted. Received my package this morning.

Yup @Skepta I put food connoisseur. It’s not really meant for serious answers.

It may have been mentioned at some point but has anyone received a transfer student merit scholarship? Every now and then I like to read last year’s transfer thread (especially the posts that happened around this time of the year), to get an idea of what we might be expecting in the days to come. Transfer scholarships were all sent out by the end of May for last year’s group.

@AGoodFloridian yes the usc topping scholarship got sent out a couple days ago but we’re pretty sure everyone who applied for financial aid that is a transfer student received that email. you should not take it as a indication of interest by the school

@usc2563 @Shuisazn thanks a lot guys! Good luck:)

@VLGian Thanks for the reply, but I didn’t mean the Topping scholarship in particular. Is that the main one for transfers? Last year some students received transfer merit scholarships along with their acceptances, but they didn’t refer to them as the Toppings scholarship.

@AGoodFloridian the topping scholarship is for students who demonstrate high financial need (but its sent to everyone who applied for financial aid as far as I’ve heard)
the merit scholarship is a separate usc scholarship for students who have done well in their coursework thus far

Here’s a link to their scholarship page if you’re interested to see what you can apply for:
