@Skepta i wouldn’t say late because i know some students received their acceptance letter before May. I wouldn’t worry about it unless its the last week of may
I know this might be out of context but can someone exactly explain to me what does it mean when admissions request an applicant’s SGR??
@Monekyboy961 SGR means spring grade request. Usually sophomore applicants receive SGRs, however junior applicants can also receive them. An SGR is usually issued when an important pre req is being taken in the spring quarter/semester or sometimes they just wanna see more college work before making a final decision.
Ya but I mean is it necessarily a good sign? @Skepta
@Monekyboy961 SGRs aren’t necessarily good. I don’t think anybody really knows how it works either. I know some people with SGRs got in with 3.6s, while others got rejected even with a 3.9/4.0. :-/
@malpais I believe transferring from a CSU to a UC school is rather difficult. But the same cannot be said for USC. They care about the classes you took, not the school you went too, that’s what makes USC so great.
@Monekyboy961 It’s a good sign yes. It’s not good as an acceptance but better than a rejection.
Anyone know when Annenberg will hear back? I’m a TTP applicant and haven’t heard anything
@InTheNightSky95 Good point. But still, hurry tf up Viterbi hahaha
@UCtoUSC I don’t think we will hear back until next week at the earliest. I’m not a TTP applicant though, so I’m not sure if you will hear back earlier than the rest of us non-TTP applicants
@HarvardJones @malpais - Its not impossible to transfer to California schools from a CSU. Cal State Northridge (CSUN) has a USC backed program to make it easier to transfer to USC. I know several friends who went to CSUN and CSULA that transfered to USC. I met many during my time as an undergrad at SC (2012-15) as well. But yes, its generally easier to get in from a Community College since at a CSU you’re already at an actual university so priority may be given to those in CC.
Has anyone heard of people from previous years not get into their major but into usc as undecided?
I’d also like to know
@TrojanTransfer89 trying to transfer to Marshall when accepted as a dornsife transfer? That’s very unlikely to happen. Once you’re there as a junior transfer, you’re taking courses in your major and you’re shut out from taking Marshall classes. USC is pretty stringent about this and they see through the ruse from the classes you’ve taken intended for a Marshall junior transfer.
@jdfinancialsec I think @TrojanTransfer89 was asking if they’d be able to spend a 3rd year at SMC, but then transfer into Marshall as a rising junior. Yes you can do that, but obviously it would take you 5 years to get your degree. I wouldn’t bank on that though if I were you, because USC wants to see high grades A/A-/B+ in courses that will receive GE or requirement credit following your transfer, so if they see that you’ve boosted your GPA by spending a 3rd year at SMC and by taking courses that aren’t really relevant to your GE or major requirements, I doubt they’d feel any better about your application. With that said, USC has accepted lower GPA applicants before, so keep your hopes up for this year! You still have a few weeks to go. Good luck!
@Wafflepiezz @itslife123 @usc2563 Thanks!
@jdfinancialsec 2 of my friends did internal transfers once admitted to USC. One from econ-dornsife to marshall and the other from neuroscience-dornsife to CS-viterbi. If anything USC makes the internal transfer process much easier, atleast compared to the UCs. According to them, they just went to their advisor to see which classes are necessary pre-req classes. After 1 semester, if you complete the important ones with no grade lower than a B you are in.
@MartyM I definitely remember a girl from the 2014 thread that applied for SCA and Marshall as her major choices, but she didn’t get in for either of them. Instead, she was admitted as undecided. It definitely happens
I tried to use undecided as a major choice when I applied, but yeah, that plan didn’t work out
Any Marshall decisions today? Last week before I lose all hope…
Just checked my portal and I have been accepted! Dornsife/ Creative Writing. Letter is dated 5/11/17.
