@chap97 the sooner they get your grades the sooner you’ll likely hear back from them!
@shayanvafaee are you sending the explanation by emailing your counselor?
@chap97 I would send them in immediately, contact your counselor and try to send in an unofficial copy in the form of pdf so they have them in hand to expedite the decision making process until they receive the official copy via mail from your school.
@Skepta I havent receive a spring grade request but last year when i applied and was SGR’d i asked if i could send in an explanation for my below my personal average grades that semester and i was encouraged to do so by my counselor at the time. Do it because it really cant hurt you, ask your counselor first though just to be courteous of their time and extra materials theyll need to read.
@shayanvafaee were you denied last year just for once C Even though all your other grades were As?
@Skepta I was denied because i had 1 C and 2 B’s which is pretty poor performance for USC. Theres a lot of hope for you so give it your best, do everything you can, and just wait lol. Try to get on that asap, prepare something short, to the point, and honest.
@Skepta I was rejected from Marshall last year after getting a 4.0 with 29 credits, including accounting 1 and 2, during my sophomore year at a community college in Los Angeles. The year before, I had gotten a 3.3 from Cornell over 30 27 credits, but I got a C- in calculus. When I called my counselor just to ask if there was a particular weakness in my application, she said, without being specific, that a C in an important class like calculus can disqualify even an otherwise competitive student. I’d imagine they’d be a bit more tolerant if you get a C in a class that isn’t crucial to your major.
@izrobins @Skepta I agree, good points made. What class did you get a C in Skepta? Also, what is your intended major
@shayanvafaee The class was trig, and my major is Econ. Also this spring quarter I’m taking buisness calc so hopefully they will want to see that.
@Skepta Hopefully your spring quarter ends soon, try to show an upward trend and send those spring quarter grades in as well as soon as they become available so that in the case you do well in business calc it will show that you are good at math and were just having a rough patch while taking trig.
Who else still hasn’t received anything from USC? No email, no SGR, no news…
Guys I’m really stupid because for Psych majors you can choose between Calculus and Statistics and most people choose the easy way and take Statistics. I took both and I got an A in Statistics and a C in Calculus. The reason that I got a C was that I was dealing with many problems that year and did really bad on the final which dropped me by 1 letter grade. So how do they look at my case? I took Calculus juat because I wanna transfer to Pharmacy school after and wanted to Fall ahead. I also got a C in a very hard chemistry class. (However in order to prove to them that I can do better, I took a higher level chemistry and I got a B). My friend didn’t take the Chemistry that I took and she got in as a Psych major. I’m really upset cause I always like to challenge myself but unfortunately that didn’t work out due to many issues. Also I’m done with all of my major requirements and GE.
@chingyangkao I haven’t heard back anything at all.
@HappilyFoodie @Roxy22 @chingyangkao Are you guys dornsife? But yeah im in the same boat at least we know we’ll hear back in less than 10 days!
I’m Annenberg so I know that we’re supposed to be dead last or whatever, but the wait is still painful haha
@VLGian yes dornsife Psych major
Hey gang, I have been lurking a while and figured I should share my results. Can someone link the page where I post my stats?
Some basics:
Admitted: May 2, postmarked May 1
School: Marshall School of Business, Bus Admin
Transferring From: Pasadena City College, 3.78 GPA & Honors Transfer Program Completed, 83 Units completed as of starting Spring 2017
Misc: I have been at my CC for 4 years now, I hit a few speed bumps along the way. Ended up not taking any classes one semester and only one class in another, but supplemented this with summer classes. I have 4 total W’s, 2 of which were eventually made up, and the other 2 were still outstanding but in core classes that I covered with a different path (ex, W from Japanese 1, but then took Span 1 instead, W from Math Analysis, took Business Calc instead).
This is my 3rd time applying, having applied before knowing there is very little chance of being accepted.
I have family that graduated from USC, both my mother (Rossier) and my aunt (Chan Division).
Application Details: My honors english professors assisted with the construction of my application essays and wrote strong recommendations. Even though they are not related to the major I applied for, I believe they have a detailed understanding of my work ethic having taken multiple classes of each.
Feel free to ask questions !
Just checking in. I’m a sophomore SCA Film & Television application (would be an incoming junior this fall). Haven’t received a decision/SGR/anything yet. The only time my portal was updated was back in March, but they were just asking for my high school transcript (which my school had failed to send lol). One of my classmates (at CU Boulder) that lives in Washington got accepted a few days ago to the same program.
If we haven’t heard anything yet, is that a bad sign? Is there still hope??
Any Psychology majors here who haven’t received a decision?
