2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@juliar95 If it’s a package then I’m 99% sure you’re accepted! What major did you apply for?

@Skepta I’m not sure about acceptances, but it definitely seems like there were more SGRs handed out by now. Wonder what’s up?

@5nonnegotiables It’s nice to know that more people have heard past the deadline :stuck_out_tongue:  It wasn’t by that much (only 5 days after), but I’ve certainly never seen other people on College Confidential having been in a similar situation. They should really put an asterisk by that June 1st date so that the few that don’t hear back by the deadline don’t panic. I really thought they had just forgotten about me.

@sabkam You start off fresh. They keep record of your CC GPA, but they only use it when you graduate. They look at your USC-only GPA and your CC+USC GPA. Whichever GPA is lower, that’s the GPA they use for determining honors cord distribution. So if you wanted to do like a semester abroad, they go by your USC-only GPA and they usually require it to be a 3.0 or higher. That’s pretty scary if you have a rocky start like I did.

@juliar95 yeah I was planning on living on campus at first to adjust, I guess another problem is figuring out a living situation if I get accepted.

@dvalenc7 Yeah their snowboard team is really good, although they offer it for all skill levels supposedly. The best part is there is only a $300 fee a year and they have a massive cabin in Mammoth that you can use anytime you want, plus carpooling every weekend!

@zettasyntax does the GPA transfer apply to students coming from a 4 year college too?

@andreajt I think they definitely do consider the rigor of your courses, as well as the number of GE’s you complete and how well-prepared they feel you are to take on a full course load there. I also don’t think the number is everything, since there’s a huge difference between someone who has a high GPA from taking all electives, versus someone who has a high GPA from taking all heavy academic coursework. But as always, all we can do is speculate since none of us actually knows what goes down in their decision making process.

Annenberg applicant accepted last week as undeclared. Not ideal but at least I’m in! Transferring from another private four year in California. I’m an I’m incoming sophomore I didn’t get an SGR and thought I was rejected because I only had 16 units done when applying but they accepted me anyway! Don’t lose hope their admission process is different from most schools!

Not sure if this helps but I also signed up for notifications from USPS but didn’t get any and thought it was over but my package came anyway!

@ngujo96 Yup, transfer GPA from another 4-year university would be treated the same way. Transfer GPA doesn’t become your USC GPA (although that would be awesome for people with 4.0s, haha). Aside from determining honors, they don’t really use your transfer GPA for anything, so I don’t really see how it’s that much of a benefit compared to say the UC’s where you do supposedly start fresh after transferring.

@juliar95 package from fedex or usps is what i am asking, sorry

Sorry for posting about this because I know everyone is on edge right now about admissions, but do any of you know anything about the on campus housing choices? I was assigned Parkside Apartments, but apparently there’s no A/C and I’m asthmatic (which I told them on my app) so if it’s true that there’s no A/C in Parkside Apartments, I’ll likely have to request reassignment. Just want to get an idea of which buildings to request on the reassignment application, A/C being a must. Let me know if any of you have info, thanks!

Do you know if they send it to your perm address or the mailing address? I just realized it could be sent where I don’t live anymore… kill me ahahah

Do you guys think usc looks at completing most of the required classes online as a bad thing? They are all transferable, they were just taken online…

checked myusps this morning and have no letter sized mail from USC but I am getting my paycheck today so that’s something to look forward to lol.

package dashboard showed nothing :. Just anxiously waiting at this point. Best of luck to all my annenberg friends

I applied to annenberg and the package is USPS

@jenanniee as far as I know they shouldn’t be able to know you even took the classes online. On my official transcript it just shows what classes I took along with the grades received

@jenanniee There’s no way for them to know, like @uscdream19 says. At least half of my classes were hybrid or online classes and the rest traditional in-classroom classes. However, I believe for some courses (like physical science+lab during my transfer cycle), can’t be taken online and they may you ask to provide proof from the registrar that shows where the class meets (if it’s online or in a classroom). In that case, USC can’t accept the course to satisfy a GE.

who thought it would be a good idea to put “withdraw application status” so close to “check application status”.

@zettasyntax @uscdream19 Thank you for your responses! Yea I know lab/science courses and language courses can’t be taken online… Well I kind of made them aware because I kept sending my official transcripts from January-April because they claimed they never received them. After calling them several times, they suggested I upload my unofficial transcripts through the portal. I did and the unofficial documents showed what classes were taken online and on campus. After the 5th set of transcripts, they finally received the official ones like the last week of April lol It was so annoying and expensive. But yea hopefully that doesn’t hurt my chances… thank you !

@Skepta lol I accidentally click on it all the time !

For example, my 3.83 gpa from a 4-year with a schedule of Calculus, writing, macro, micro, english, philosophy, and psychology would theoretically be treated somewhat differently than a 4.0 at a CC with less rigorous classes? Im stressing for this sgr lmao…
