2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Hi, I’m a senior in h.s about to start cc fall 2017 and want to apply to USC for Fall 2018 for a dual major in film production and cs(games) or interactive media and games. When should I start working on my application? How/how many extracurricular should I have? And what’s the key difference between the two game design majors( i want to do level/character design)? Lastly, any other general tips and is 48 credits to transfer for film production non-negotiable or suggested?

@xtx237 start on your app whenever, but don’t send it in until after you’ve received your grades for the fall. EC’s do not matter, focus on getting as high of a GPA as you can, and take as many GE courses as you can. I’m not too sure about film, someone else will have to answer that. Make sure you do research though, if I were to guess, I’d say there’s no way you transfer in, major in film and something like CS Games, and manage to graduate in the typical 4 years. I’m a business major so I don’t know for sure, but be certain that you know what you’re getting yourself into. Good luck!

@FightOn14 Yup, you’ll still get information about what kind of aid you’d receive. Although, I mistakenly thought the total cost of attendance being 37K referred to a whole year’s worth of attendance, lol. It didn’t even occur to me that everything (including my grant aid) was halved and thus referred to a single semester and not the whole year. Just a heads up in case you happened to make the silly mistake I did  :stuck_out_tongue:

Is there anything that you can do to help your chances of being moved to fall admit from spring? I’m in SCA and really worried about the course work I am going to miss in the fall…

Is the next wave tonight at midnight?

@bugajskj it’s weird that you received a sgr and not a straight-up acceptance. You finished all your prereqs so a SGR is unnecessary unless you’re taking a bunch of GEs.

@bugajskj congrats only your choice and commitment. I believe the easiest thing is to withdraw your application via portal, unless you want to follow through your route. It sounds like you’re set at UCLA!

@Monekyboy961 I hope you intentionally spelled your user name that way because I was tripping when I couldn’t tag you haha. Anyways, congrats on your acceptance to both. That is a tough choice. CMU is a stellar school. Although it may not have the brand name that USC has (debatable), people still recruit heavily from there because there are tons of bright students. USC on the other hand, in a more holistic sense, is well rounded at almost everything. USC is great and all but some departments at CMU are incomparable (in the good way, specifically finance, information systems , tech, etc). While if you choose USC, you would be getting a well rounded education, reputable name, tons of opportunities to network, intern, socialize, NCAA sports, location wise unrivaled (even though people criticize it for being in the ghetto, it’s a stones throw away into a great city that offers everything imaginable). Sorry if I sound bias but I grew up in an SC family and have so many great memories. Not only is the school excellent, its produced some really great people (there are some turds in the bunch, but don’t let that discourage you) and can get take you to the next level. This is the only school I would ever go to quite honestly, no other school appeals to me more. Good luck on your choice, you can’t go wrong.

@osu2usc I’m the poster boy for this! I sent emails to everybody and anybody. Deans, counselors, etc. My counselor reacted very negatively and said I “shouldn’t discuss the matter further with him”. I was even daring enough to send a letter to a house in San Marino - where the usc prez lives. There was nothing to be done. It’s rather unlikely, so the reality is likely that you won’t be moved up to fall :frowning:

@zettasyntax thank you! were you a spring admit as well? if so, I have some questions if you don’t mind me asking!

Just sent in my appeal, will post back if my counselor responds

@zettasyntax wow, you sent a letter to the usc prez house? I don’t know if that shows commitment/dedication to be a trojan, but he would probably think it’s creepy that you know where he lives hahaha

@FightOn14 Yup, I was a spring admit. Sure, if you have any questions, I’ll try my best to answer them

@pomeranian4rich I guess it was a bit creepy, lol :stuck_out_tongue: I wasn’t expecting a response, but I really just wanted somebody to hear my case and wanted to be a Trojan sooner.

@zettasyntax dang hahaha! I mentioned it in a recent email to my counselor, I guess I’ll see how he responds!

@zettasyntax that’s some next level **** :))

This may sound crazy, but has anyone tried to apply to USC again after being rejected for Junior status? I already have 82 units completed and I was rejected, but I still really want to go to USC… and I don’t know if I’m supposed to just wait a whole year or go back to my community college to take more courses since I have to be full-time or whatever…

@ashurikko do you have a backup or was USC the only college you applied to this year?

@zettasyntax Gotta do what you gotta do. LOLOL

@Skepta It was just USC, if I got rejected, which I did, I was going to just apply for spring semester at a local college and take on this internship opportunity abroad for fall semester that I’ve been interested in doing. Not sure if USC is worth it anymore

@ashurikko thats good that you have the following year planned with an internship and all, defitneley will give you a huge boost wherever you apply. As for me, if my appeal ends up not working, I have to return to my cc which I HATE lol :/.
