@usc2563 Say you receive Financial Aid. Would this mean the $300 commitment deposit will be waived?
@squirtlesquirtle I think you can apply for a waiver? I didn’t and just paid the $300.
I do know that if you receive financial aid the orientation fee is waived.
@nvz1997 well if you receive your financial aid package then you’re in. But it hasn’t updated in my portal or my letter in the mail.
@penntousc I see that you replied to yourself but I’m certain it was to me lmao. Makes sense I’ll just email my counselor and ask her what to do
So I was wrong. I just got home to find an acceptance package on top of my mailbox.
@uscdream19 yeah I’m not sure what I was doing lol
@izrobins told ya CONGRATS!!!
Did you get admission for fall or spring ?
@uscdream19 Yeah you were right! And I was admitted for the spring. I would like to start in the fall but this gives me a chance to work a bit longer and gain some more experience before leaving my current internship. In the end I’m just happy with an acceptance so I don’t really mind when I start.
@ejsutton2006 I just submitted the 9 documents they requested from me and emailed my counselor to let her know I submitted them, so I guess I just have to keep on waiting but I think it’s a good sign that they wanted more info from me.
@squirtlesquirtle yeah that was my experience, but i got accepted on like April 3rd so they were probably busy with freshmen at the time
@area21 You got to “submit documents” or whatever it’s called and click “appeal concerning family contribution” (something like that) and there it will give u instructions. In my appeal letter, I basically mentioned how USC has a history of meeting 100% of families’ financial need (we all know that “USC-determined” is their way of saying that USC won’t be as generous as other schools) and that my brother will be college age the year after my first year at USC. To sort of show my enthusiasm for USC, at the end of my appeal letter, I mentioned how USC is my top choice and how grateful I am to have gotten into my major and how prestigious it is etc lol idk if that did anything but it sure didn’t hurt.
@usc2563 uhh where did you hear that the orientation fee is waived? I got financial aid and so do a lot of other students but that doesn’t sound right. I’m pretty sure it says something that the orientation fee is later billed to your payment.
@pianorite well, I assumed it was waived because it only charged me for my guests and not for mine and it showed up on the order as $0.
@pianorite I’m assuming it was waived, for lack of a better term, because I don’t have tuition payments to make, because my gift aid covered 100% of my tuition, just not the rest of the estimated cost of attendance.
Just got a usps notification from USC, I think a package is coming.
how hard is it to switch your major after acceptance
@Vesper7 well, nothing arrived today (unfortunately). I’m just going to have to assume I’ve been rejected, especially since I live about 20-30 minutes from USC and should’ve received my acceptance letter by now I do hope you get in though! I still hang onto a sliver of hope that the acceptance letter got lost in the mail…haha… hopefully my portal updates soon.
@pianorite Yeah, it does show up on your bill. I was bored and checked my first bill that USC ever prepared for me I’m not sure if it’s necessarily part of tuition and is rather part of “mandatory fees”, I think. I’m not positive though. That is nice that they wait until later to bill you, haha
I was also able to pay for my mom the morning of orientation, so I think you’re always welcome to bring additional last-minute guests too/don’t have the money ready yet (the latter case being my situation).
@zettasyntax do you recommend bringing a parent to orientation? My parents are the ones who are paying for my education but I planned to go to orientation by myself and just attend things they may benefit from such as the “how to pay for college” session and relay any important info to them.
@pianorite My mom honestly got bored with the various presentations, lol, but she is a bit older. A lot of parents like to know about the safety/emergency stuff, etc. I saw a bunch of parents taking notes during that part of a morning presentation. It’s really up to you. My mom went to take a nap in the car mere moments before the Trojan Marching Band came out to play. That was probably the highlight of the day for me, so just make sure to get video of that for your parents; I’m sure they’ll like it My mom was disappointed that she missed them.
@srubien Really depends on your current major and the major you want to switch into. Some may/may not have requirements before they officially allow you to declare the major. Generally, it’s easiest to do within the same school (Dornsife major -> Dornsife major).
