2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

Do you guys think a 3.25-3.35 GPA will be okay for my spring grade report as an admitted transfer student for the spring of 2019? I’m freaking out that my admission will be rescinded because of one class…

SGR submitting final grades on Monday

Wow I feel like my counselor doesn’t want to to even try to appeal and is discouraging me which I feel isn’t right for a counselor to do… I told her how I believe how I have changed so much since high school and how I would like to show her and how I have new compelling information for an appeal and if I should email a word document to her and she said this
"There is no formal appeal process for transfers. You may submit a letter to me via email of information not already present in the application. Again, since there is no formal process, it may be best to apply again next year should you choose to do so. "
Like what do you all think of that?? She’s basically telling me I shouldn’t even try, isn’t that kind of rude ?

@USCPLEASE93 who is your counselor? That seems quite odd.

@USCPLEASE93 Can you PM me your counselor? I don’t really know what to make of that tbh

@USCPLEASE93 I just emailed my counselor and she was really nice about sending an appeal. She said that I would have to email a one page letter and she would make sure the committee gets it

@onelastchance123 @aznboi4981 @4yourhope my counselor is Nicole Moline. I’m just kind of in shock that she is basically telling me to not to appeal and discouraging me to do so. I was expecting her to be nice about it. It makes me feel like s * * *…

@USCPLEASE93 Never give up brother. This is my second time applying to USC. I thought that I would have got in by the second time but I didn’t. I know the chances are slim but we have to at least try and say that we gave it our all. We got one last chance for admissions. I’m pouring out everything I can in this appeal.

@USCPLEASE93 It sounds like she is being professional about her job and telling you to either submit a letter or try again next year.

@USCPLEASE93 I mean yeah… I think they sound robotic (and rude to us applicants) like that because they probably get so many of the same emails every day, every year lol

@USCPLEASE93 If you think you have something to say, submit it. Don’t let a counselor giving you a discouraging reply get you down. She’s giving you information in terms she thinks best fits your situation, that is her job. She’s also human and can make mistakes. Use that as fuel and prove her wrong with a great appeal.

@USCPLEASE93 tbh I think you’re overreacting… She’s not being rude or mean.

She’s setting realistic expectations and hinting that it’s very very unlikely for an appeal to go through and that you should tentatively plan on reapplying next year, which, well, is good advice, right?

It’s not like she’s going to reply and say “yeah go ahead and appeal, it’s super likely that you’ll get in!” I don’t want to be hard on you but at this point, multiple admissions officers voted against you, so it makes sense that they aren’t super enthusiastic about a ton of applicants appealing with nothing substantially new; it just creates a lot of extra of extra work on their end.

I don’t want to discourage you either, as if you truly have new, compelling information, you should go for it, but the admissions office is probably pretty used to seeing a bunch of appeals every year that were written out of spite/anger as opposed to having legitimate justification.

If legit reasons for an appeal aren’t immediately obvious to you and you have to think super hard about what to include (and by you, I speak generally to anyone), then you probably don’t have a strong case.

Hi guys, long time lurker here. I found out I was rejected today for PR and comm. I’m a rising sophomore, so I shall try again next year !! Congrats to everyone who was accepted

So people are getting totally different responses from different counselors re appealing. Hard to judge if that what you are being told is individual in nature or applies to everyone. Just from what I am reading to add a little perspective…for regular admissions last year (most recent stats available) they had over 1000 appeals and took less than 20. And those students had significant updates or changes to their app since submitted. Won something significant or left something otherwise important off, etc. Since they don’t even acknowledge an appeal process for transfers the odds are likely even lower for transfers, making them minuscule if any. So if something extraordinary has occurred since you submitted, it can’t hurt to try, but odds are very slim to none. But simply restating your passion for USC or things already provided in your app won’t change things.

There just isn’t enough room for all you great students. That is the issue more than anything you did or didn’t do.

Does anyone know any information about how strict their transfer GPA requirement is? Kind of freaking out…

@zettasyntax funny how you you are a natural player when it comes to getting a Kaufman boy to do unmentionable things lmao. Hehe

Good info. Where are you doing your Master’s? I’m going to apply for the Progressive degree program so I can pursue my Master of Comm at the same time.

@typicalmango Viterbi at least is pretty clear that there isn’t a minimum GPA requirement, pretty sure it applies to alll schools

For admitted students:

Does anyone know where to access our admission guidelines? I’m trying to find the minimum GPA we need.

@csumit I got in for spring 2019 and they said on the letter that my spring grades should at least be at a 3.5 GPA and i don’t have that so i guess i’m just scared my admissions will be rescinded

@typicalmango oh once you’ve gotten in… there was a discussion on here that they’re very lenient so I wouldn’t be too worried unless you have a ton of Cs or something
