I sent my email to my counselor about sending in my spring grades over the weekend, and I got a notification that they were out. They should be back in the office now. I’m a bit worried that I won’t get a response. How long should I wait until I send another email or call the office?
Depends who your counselor is. I’ve emailed mine twice now and they’ve responded within 24 hours each time, but their responses are very cut and dry. i.e., my questions were legitimate, but also of a nature such that I thought I’d get a few hints from their responses. Nothing - completely neutral. lol
@Vincent1997 Congrats. How about the study abroad option for fall? The cost of a semester abroad in some of the places is very reasonable and much cheaper than a semester at USC
@Vincent1997 congrats on acceptance! I know that you have been waiting for this and to be a spring admit can be bittersweet. Might I ask who your counselor is? I’ve been waiting almost a month since I sent in my spring grades and am getting anxious.
When do you all assume couselors update portals?
@Tuttwirl My counselor is Samuel Williams. My portal actually never updated–as in it never showed that my Spring Grades were received. My portal just went from “Spring Grade Requested” to “View Decision.”
@scarletred The issue is that I will be able to transfer only a single class to USC. I just don’t think that it’s worth it. Also, I don’t even know where I’d go and I am sure that the application cycles for those Universities are over.
@vincent1997 Are you instate for UNC? Is it UNC CH?
Any thought about working in the fall (I know, easier said than done, but maybe something around USC). Where are you living now?
@zettasyntax was spring admit as a transfer too, but he was local, still may have some input.
@FutureHaasBear I didn’t finish my arts and life science requirements, but got accepted. So I did all but the two we are required to take there
Congrats @Vincent1997! I hope you can find a way to fill the time till January with that cc class maybe plus work or an internship? My daughter actually hoping for spring admission to be honest. Good luck to you on your decision. Keep us posted.
@Vincent1997 I was in a somewhat similar situation. I had taken 100 units at my community college and they actually told me that I could no longer take courses there and have it covered by financial aid. The only requirement I could have knocked out was Spanish III, but I didn’t think it was worth it. Instead, I tried to find part-time seasonal work because I literally had nothing else to do. Having only a GED made the job hunt a little difficult. Not even Sears wanted me for a temporary holiday position, lol. It did wind up being a long vacation where I played video games, but I made up for it by taking summer classes at USC. Since I didn’t take any classes in the fall, I was able to apply the financial aid for that semester to the summer session. The summer session can be very expensive, so I was thankful for the help! I started in January 2016 and finished in August 2017.
If you don’t receive FA, I can see how it wouldn’t be worth it. I loved my time at USC, but if they weren’t generous with their FA, there was no way I’d be able to afford such a school. I don’t know how USC decides this whole spring admit thing. It’s not like the former USC prez’s daughter started in the spring
It makes more sense for HS kids that can actually be productive during the fall semester and knock out some requirements. For juniors with the majority of their prep work completed, it’s definitely a waste. I’d like to see it go away to be honest, but maybe I would have never been accepted if spring admission wasn’t a thing.
@Vincent1997 My couselors is also Samuel Williams. Was wondering if maybe he did a bunch of decisions today. No update. When I meant portal update I was wondering about the view admission decision thing.
It’s been a full month since I sent in my spring grades so I was also curious if that was normal or if I should call? I’m pretty positive though if I call I’ll get a generic response…
This process is stupidly long.
@JoeUSC I couldn’t agree more. I personally feel (and correct me if I’m wrong) that there should be deadlines like the freshman get for SGR’s (like everyone who gets an SGR heard on May 15th for example) final admission decisions are June 1st and then all SGR’s know On June 30th. Something that let’s all parties know on one day. It would save me a lot of stress checking my portal every single day multiple tones to check if I got anything. I would love to know anyone else’s opinion because the longer I wait to more frustrated I am!
my portal says youSC is down for maintenance tomorrow morning. Last time it went down I got my SGR…
@tuttwirl Everyone feels that way. Except for the people that heard in April. It is like this every year, many will hear in July then scramble to find housing 3-4 weeks before school starts. Not fun.
@CADREAMIN I feel for those who haven’t heard anything yet as well. Even I heard back in April (SGR) and have had this plan in the works in case I am accepted (I applied for housing. $55 I lost if not accepted) It’s really hard to plan for such a big change with no time at all. And then there are students who hear back in July and accepted for the fall. The system needs some changes to make all happy and everyone at their most productive! Of course there are some exceptions, but for the most part we all should be entitled to a (somewhat) definitive answer in a timely matter.
@Tuttwirl how do you apply for housing when the USC housing website said only admitted students can submit application? Im confused.
It just sucks being a TTP and still not knowing by now.
“The Office of Admission has completed the review process for Transfer Merit Scholarships. All scholarship recipients have been notified via postal mail and online at you.usc.edu.”
welp
@CC2USC congrats! I enjoyed your stat post, particularly the extra comments about how long and hard you worked to get in. Good for you. Welcome to the Trojan Family!
@sugarcane1 I just used my 10 digit USC ID # and was allowed to pick rooms, and pay. The application wasn’t 100% complete. I haven’t gone back to check. Not until I get a final decision which hopefully is by the end of the week!
