2018 Help please?

Hi, I am an indian american girl who excels academically yet does not have the strongest ECS. My sat score is 2360(760 CR),780 Lit, 770 Bio, 750 Math 2 and my gpa is 3.98. I am interested in majoring in Biomedical engineering and hope to eventually go to med school. I was wondering if I should do 1 or 2

APPLY TO COLUMBIA ED AND MIT EA

APPLY TO YALE SCEA
(I was also wondering if I should retake math 2 in the fall.

Do you mean if you should apply to both early?
If that’s what you meant, as long as they aren’t all binding agreements, go for it. I know Columbia’s is, and that’s fine, but more than one binding acceptance could cause a problem.

As for the math test, your score is good but if you think you’ll do better, go ahead and take it. It’s always worth the boost, even if your score improves just a little.

If you apply SCEA you can submit no other EA or ED applications, but as many RD as you want. SCEA is not binding.

If you apply ED you can submit no other ED applications, but as many EA and RD as you want. ED is binding unless requested FA is insufficient to support attendance (you decide). If you accept the ED FA offer, or you didn’t ask for FA, you must withdraw all other EA and RD apps when accepted ED.

You can submit as many EA applications as you want (except for the SCEA restriction). EA is not binding.

Where do you actually want to go? If it’s Yale, don’t apply to Columbia ED. However, Columbia has an amazing program for BME, and would likely find your status as a URM/female/ with amazing scores as long as you express yourself well. From your scores, it seems like you would do well at Columbia, where all majors have to take some non-technical classes involving liberal arts/critical thinking/writing.

Some of my top choices were Yale, Georgetown, and UPenn, but I wound up applying for Columbia ED because I loved the international feel and the fact that I was in NYC and I found the departments amazing, but you should definitely apply early where you want to go (you’ll regret it otherwise!!).

^just fyi - indian american is not URM - it is more ORM - overly represented
to be honest, you should apply ED if this is indeed your first choice. Even if you do EA to MIT, your ED is binding. Also EA to MIT doesn’t really boost anything…many folks are deferred and rejected. Saw lots of MIT rejections with better stats.

SCEA of course means one and only one single choice application. Non binding…that means no ED or EA to mit.

^ Yes, Native American is URM; Indian American may be ambiguous. :)
