2019-2020 USC Transfer

@woshua Good luck!

Keep me posted when decision is out. I hope the other components of your application are good and you will get in.

@sagaciousforever

  1. hmm thats interesting that they still admitted you despite you completing their required classes. Usually UC’s are super strict with their requirements. I think your safest bet in making sure everything will be ok is contacting the admisisons department or a counselor. I have never seen a situation like yours so I dont have solid advice. sorry about that.

  2. Im transferring to USC because USC has a stronger business program and a better alumni network. I’m also very close to my family and USC is much closer to home. UCSD is a great school and has awesome business orgs and frats that have dope connections but i personally think I’ll have more opportunities at USC.

  3. Im in Roosevelt! We easily have the best dorms which is a huge plus. A common misconception is that we have a lot of GE’s compared to the other colleges but we’re actually right in the middle in terms of amount of GE’s cause ERC allows one class to fulfill multiple GE’s so its not that bad. People often complain about MMW (ERC’s writing sequence) but I personally think its super interesting and if you are into history and geography like me and want to learn more about the world, I think you’ll like be fine.

lmk if you have any more questions

@woshua

I would assume poli sci is harder to get into than international business since it is ranked higher nationally. International Business is the most popular major at UCSD and there are a lot of us.

UCSD’s poli sci department is often ranked top 5 in the country. It’s actually amazing. I have taken a couple of poli classes and almost all my professors are successful and taught at ivys and other top colleges so theyre super good.

@rish68 Thanks for responding!

I do have some more questions.

  1. Do you mind sharing your GPA and your major requirement completion?

  2. Yes, UCs are strict on prereqs and I think that is probably why I got rejected by UCI (lower-tier school compare to Pepperdine and UCSD). UCSD is probably more lenient on missing prereqs and that’s why they accepted me!

I am pretty sure they knew that I missed certain classes and knew what classes I took in Spring 2019 but they still offered me admission. I am a bit confused now.

I know that I am missing the second english, but for math I am not even sure how my Business Calculus (covering Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 materials) would transfer. Does it count as Calculus 1 and Calculus 2, or just Calculus 1?

If I decide to attend UCSD, I want to know if I could complete my missing prereqs at UCSD in Fall 2019 or I have to complete it/them in the summer.

I am planning to email UCSD’s admission office next Monday, but do you think that there will be a risk for them to withdraw my admission if I email them? However, they knew that I missed prereqs but still accepted me in the first place though.

@sagaciousforever

  1. I feel kinda weird sharing exact gpa lol but its somewhere between 3.75 and 3.90 haha. I have completed all of the USC business admin requirements and have one class for category C and and category E left.

  2. Have you talked to your current counselor at whatever institution you are at right now? They probably know a lot more about UC admisisons than I do and I dont want to give you the wrong/incorrect advice. I unfortunately cant help you with the whole prereq situation since I have no experience with that :frowning:

is this a ucsd or a usc thread??? /s

@slimreaper It’s USC and USC is my top choice. We are just talking about UCSD since I got in today.

@rish68 hey! i got in to UCSD today and am from LJ, so it is pretty enticing (USC is my first choice tho so fingers crossed). I currently attend a top 20 private school on the east coast, so it would be way easier to get my credits to transfer over at USC. Quick questions for you:

Why are you leaving UCSD? is it super socially dead?
Is it easy to switch from the major i was admitted as?

@sagaciousforever peep the /s

@rish68 I am at Pepperdine now.

I will just email the admission office next Monday then. To be honest, I lean towards Pepperdine if choosing between Pepperdine and UCSD. In terms of the academic curriculum, the difference between Pepperdine and UCSD is marginal so I would rather get a more focused attention (smaller class size+stronger relationships with the professors) at Pepperdine.

But yes, I will email admission office and see what they say! Do you think that emailing about my missing prereqs situation will negatively affect my acceptance letter?

just pm me for ucsd questions so we dont bother anyone else haha

@Sagaciousforever: UC is very unpredictable in admission decision. What pre-req class you miss? As long as you finish by the end of this Spring, you would be fine.

If you don’t even think you would go, why email them? You are admitted, let it ride for now since it appears to be irrelevant in the long run. If it actually comes into play, you can double check things at that time if you feel it necessary.

@nanavn I am missing UC’s second english class. UCSD saw my Spring 2019 schedule before they made the admission decision though and I still haven’t completed the second english even today. My Spring 2019 is over already. I might also miss Calculus 2 as well because I think Business Calculus might only be counted as Calculus 1.

Thanks for replying, I was asking for a friend @rish68

@CADREAMIN I might eventually pick UCSD (30%) if I don’t get into USC. UCSD has a way lower tuition and slightly better academics(curriculum) than Pepperdine.

I am just worried about the possible negative consequence if I email UCSD’s admission office.

My friend who goes to USC overheard that this year might be quite hard to get in because of the scandal. Don’t know if this is true… :neutral:

hey guys,
I have 3.85 GPA and USC is my dream school. i am applying to CS as my main major and Math as an alternative major. Do you guys know the stats from USC last year? What do you think my chances to get into USC?
Thank you so much guys

@RyanLam Your chance is high and just be confident in yourself!

Your GPA is above average.

idk just my opinion but I feel like they might admit more people because of the admissions scandal to make up for all the spots taken by people who don’t deserve it? lmao
