@jakecap1123 Nope, not yet. We’re hoping for next week.
Hi guys I have a question. I took calculus in high school but I got a C, which is not good at all. When I registered classes for next semester in my current school, I chose to rescind the credit from high school calculus and am gonna retake it next semester (if I did not get to transfer), because I hope to getter a better grade this time. I did the change after mid-term, so calculus was originally listed on my academic transcript when I sent it to USC in Feb, but it isn’t there now. I am gonna send the updated transcript when spring grades come out. Do you guys think the disappearance of calculus would be a disadvantage when they evaluate my transcript again? Should I ask my school to move it back? (I’m a Dornsife applicant and calculus is not a pre-req for me). Thank you!
Yes. USC has several organizations specifically for transfer students to find community and integrate themselves on campus
@katyamzz It seems from your posts that you much rather go to UCB. You seem to be mentioning several cons for USC but none for UCB. I’m not going to debate which school is better because that does not matter, fit is what matters. I made the mistake of attending a four-year university which I loathed and wasted 2 years there. Go where you think you will be happiest and don’t look back.
@katyamzz Unfortunately, I was not admitted to Haas. However, if I would indeed be accepted to Haas and to USC Marshall (Still Pending Decision), I would have a difficult time deciding which school I should go to.
If USC would offer more money in my financial aid package assuming I get admitted in this situation, I’d lean towards USC. Plus, I would be able to declare accounting in spring 2020 in addition to my Business Admin major. (Bus Admin and Accounting double major)
According to USNews, USC Leventhal School Of Accounting is ranked #7 in the nation.
While UCB Haas is ranked #2 in Business Undergrad Programs by USNews, USC is still ranked #10. I’d say that’s pretty nice.
Privates have the advantage of having smaller class sizes. It’s safe to assume that it would be easier for us to get our classes since the student population is smaller than UC Berkeley. Plus, there’s always the golden factor of being able to interact with your Professors easily and connect with them on a personal level. Great for getting solid recommendations for Graduate School.
I don’t know if the class sizes at Haas are modified to support this kind of learning environment too, I’m just speaking generally.
In other words, I would have a tough time deciding because the opportunities at both USC and Cal are amazing.
Finally home from the overnight program at UCLA. I met plenty of other people who also applied to USC and most of them are still waiting to hear back. I only met one other person who has heard back from USC already besides me and he was also Dornsife… So you guys are definitely not alone. It appears as if that “wave” on May 1st was pretty small.
@vegastransfer I’m glad you ended up going. I hope your visit confirmed that your decision to go to USC is the right one. Thanks for the update on other transfers waiting to hear!
Hang in there transfers!
@katyamzz just go to UCB and see how good they treat their transfers. They’re literally second class students to them. And you got into econ not haas. So you’ll be a second class haas reject in their eyes. Good luck lol
@katyamzz And here’s how the rankings go for finance.
Haas>Marshall>UCLA biz econ> UCLA+UCB econ
This is how the general rankings go. So as you see. UCB econ isn’t nearly as strong as Marshall or UCLA biz econ. Just looking at transfer rates. UCB econ is 22% and UCLA biz econ is half that. And I have a friend who’s in UCLA biz econ and he has racked up so many internships that he’s gonna be able to go for the next IB recruiting cycle. Where do you get your info from lol
@TeriYaki1 I had a ton of fun with my overnight program and am definitely happy that I went! I can say that I truly love both institutions, but I definitely feel that I made the right decision with USC. The biggest factor (aside from financial aid in my situation) is the benefit that USC has of having a smaller undergrad population. That itself just comes with a number of benefits that is hard for a large public school like UCLA to beat.
I hope the update about so many people there still waiting on USC is helpful and encouraging to you all. You are not alone!! USC just seems to be lagging this year with getting transfer decisions rolled out. Hopefully the wait for you all ends soon and a HUGE wave of decisions comes this week.
The admit rate doesn’t mean anything @TheGoldenBoy ucla biz/Econ is an Econ major. Nothing about it is a business major.
Ucb econ is > ucla bizecon/Econ ucla is a joke for business. Ucla falsely advertises it as some holy grail business major when in reality is econ. Then the students end up transferring over to Marshall because they can find good jobs after graduating. At least you can take a bunch of haas classes as an Econ major whereas ucla u are only limited to a few accounting classes. Their staff is all adjunct not dedicated to teaching at the school then leave to other universities to teach so yeah you won’t even make any connections with your profs at ucla
Not a lot of people even know what usc is. Someone was like is that university of southern Carolina when I told them about my acceptance…
Also you can’t be a haas reject when you didn’t even apply to haas in the first place
To be honest, Berkely is a more well known and competitive university. If money is the issue, then go to Cal. The top companies in Silicon Valley love to recruit students from Stanford and Cal. We should not be disgracing any of these schools because they are both great in their own way. USC vs Cal is an amazing dilemma to have. Good luck
Do we still have like a condition for the admission even if we didn’t receive any SGR?
I haven’t got my decision yet but I just wanna know if there’s a certain gpa requirements for people that didn’t receive any spring grade requests
Honestly, I just kind of had a change of perspective with this whole process and I want to share it with some of you because I have been antsy waiting for my decision as well.
The thing is, USC emphasizes that they have a holistic admission process. Of course, the numbers matter. I’m not downplaying that. It definitely matters. But the difference is, is that USC is trying to figure out who we really are as people. I can’t say the same for any other school. A lot of the schools I’ve experienced with have only determined me based off of numbers. I’ve been admitted to 6/8 of the schools I have applied to so far, (waiting on USC, was rejected from UCLA) but I can tell you if you don’t have the numbers, a lot of schools do. not. care. I’m not saying that USC is like, fully admitting people based off of experiences they’ve been through, but they definitely look at it and consider it with your numbers.
All I’m trying to say is that yes, this has been such a long process. But honestly, I’m starting to respect it. I’m starting to respect the fact that they’re taking longer than other schools because they really are digging into our applications. Who knows, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they just are taking forever, but I really honestly am starting to just be at peace with this and realizing it’ll happen when it happens. Hope this kind of brings some change in perspective to some of us waiting
Hang in there guys, we’re almost there.
Also, I want to add that being rejected from a school does not determine who you are. I have had a hard time accepting that as well, but I want everyone on here to know that whatever happens, does not determine your worth. At all.
Edit: Just to confirm, I still haven’t heard anything. I’m not saying I’ve been rejected or anything lol
@transferusc88 Yes to everything you said. I needed to hear that. I’ve gotten rejected from 2/4 colleges, two I’m still waiting to hear back from. It makes me feel horrible but, I did the best I could. I’ve worked hard to maintain the best GPA possible and put everything into my applications. With the USC application, I feel like I had more room to make a better impression. Of course both the general app additional app for my major are intense but they asked soooo many more questions than UC’s PIQs. It’s easy to get really anxious about anything and kind of spiral into “oh my god, I’m not going to go to college.” It’s important to keep perspective.
@FemmeFilmFatale I’m glad this helped. I have been so anxious these past few weeks and I started to think about it and I was like, for what reason though? It’s a school, Yes I want to go there more than anything, but it’ll happen when it happens and I’ll hear when I hear. I hate hearing the whole saying “if it’s meant to be it will happen” thing because I think like, great but I want it. But like honestly, it’s kinda true. We all will honestly end up where we are supposed to go, and we don’t realize it now because we have our heads set on a certain destination. But a year from now, I’m positive that we will be happy with where we are. There is the exception, of course, maybe some people don’t like a certain school or whatever, but the majority of us will be happy with where we are in life. I don’t know, don’t mean to be preachy but, I felt like some of us needed it
