2019-2020 USC Transfer

Hey everyone, I’ve never posted anything but I’ve been a following this forum since the start. I was accepted into the Marshall School of Business at 5:00 today. I had a 3.95 gpa and I also had two W’s. I sent in a bunch of documents to my counsler; however, my counsler Angelica Gutiérrez no longer works for admissions since last week and I think she never uploaded any of my documents. My stats were good besides the fact I had two Ws and one was for Financial accounting. I never explained my W’s though so I’m not sure how good of a candidate I was. If you have any questions about my stats I can go into further detail. I just wanted to say thanks to @CADREAMIN for consistently posting amazing information on this forum that relieved a lot of stress.

@amghot I haven’t been notified of a housing assignment yet. I applied for housing the last week of April and was accepted into USC on May 1st. They sent me an email earlier this week notifying me to switch around my housing preferences because I requested gender neutral housing and forgot to put Cardinal Gardens as my top choice (oops lol). At least that means they are currently reviewing housing applications though!! Hopefully I get assigned something soon

Hey everybody!
I have a theory…do you think it’s possible that decisions are being rolled out in the order in which USC received our applications? I mean I know I submitted my application on the very last day. In fact, I polished it up and sent in just an hour before the deadline. With that said (and if my theory is correct), I’m kind of NOT surprised that I am among the very last individuals to hear back.

A little about me:

  • No SGR… In fact, I haven’t received any communication from USC to date.
  • Non-TTP California Community College Applicant
  • Admitted to both UCLA and UC Berkeley
  • 4.0 GPA
  • Political Science (Dornsife)

@thedudeman20 You might be on to something, cause I also have a 4.0, am a Vet doing the Leadership Scholar Program, and I haven’t heard a peep.

@thedudeman20 if that theory is right… it makes sense since I submitted it right at 11:59 ?

@vegastransfer When did you submit your housing app? Was it along with you USC app, or did you submit it after you accepted the offer?

@thedudeman20 USC is completely random in how they accept people and they do not use a stacked method based off the application submission date. I applied at the end of January (around January 22nd) yet I heard back during the first wave of decisions.

I think it is just random

@thedudeman20 No. I submitted my application at 11 pm and my transcripts arrived two months late and I was accepted already. Long story short, they “lost” my transcripts somehow.

@ca6882 I love you! <3 thanks for giving me hope, I really appreciate it! fingers crossed
Same to you!! I wish you the best of luck and success.

CONGRATS TO ALL ACCEPTED APPLICANTS! YOU DESERVE IT

@vegastransfer For Marshall, it’s probably something similar to the Viterbi procedure in that you’d have to earn a grade of B or higher in certain courses to be competitive and have a decent overall GPA. I got a C+ and B+ in the Viterbi courses I took, so I probably wouldn’t have been considered for the CS major had that been something I tried. Luckily, CS coursers were part of my major anyway, but yikes.

Housing is totally based on a time stamp of application (first come-first serve), regular admission application is not based on time submitted at all.

Thanks @krotosian and Welcome to the Trojan Family!

Hang in there everyone - go watch the the Warriors

Keep in mind for double majors there is a lot of courses required and for minors, there has to be x amount of unique classes to that minor (meaning not as many double count as you think they will). While it is encouraged and certainly can be done (and lots do) - some will find they will run out of time and money to get them done, particularly as a transfer and if they are in different schools within USC. You can speak with your advisor about it - but yes, that is a perk of USC, the ability to do that is there - it’s more about time and $.

@amghot I thought I had applied at the end of April when I noticed you could apply for housing before a decision has been made, but it turns out I just created a housing profile then lol. According to my receipt, I submitted the housing application on May 4th, so a few days after I was accepted.

@zettasyntax That makes sense. I will definitely ask my advisor more about it. Political science alone does not have enough credits to graduate, so I would either need to specialize more within a specific field or double major. I feel that a double major would be more marketable when it comes time to apply for jobs lol.

@vegastransfer haha that’s nice, you got it over with quickly and early. Where did you find the housing profile?

Sorry I’m bombarding you with questions!

If I remember the portal was updated at midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning if you did not receive something in the mail last year by Saturday as a Freshman applicant. Is it possible that rejections will pop up in the portal tonight or tomorrow night at midnight?

@thedudeman20 hey I submitted my application on November 27 I haven’t heard anything no sgr, no decision update but I submitted my official transcripts and everything in January I applied to Dornsife

@CADREAMIN That’s my concern with doing a double major at Price in particular. Price has a TON of required coursework for public policy analysis, more so than Marshall for what I want to do. It seems like a business degree on top of poli sci would lead to a more diverse set of career choices anyway.

@amghot You create your profile in the housing application. It’s just a bunch of questions for them to get an idea of your living style so they can pair you with someone similar. When you get to the housing portal from the USC Housing website, just type in your USC ID number into the username spot and hit “forgot my password” to get everything going (unless they already sent you a password in an email). Also, no worries! Feel free to send more questions my way if you need help with anything. I will try to answer if I can

@vegastransfer I just found the app but I don’t have a USC ID…I tried using my Reference ID but that didn’t work

I’m a freshman bio major from UCR (sophomore for next year) with a 3.73 gpa (my only B was a stupid B- in English 4 which I know is the equivalence of one of the writing requirements) and my reason for transferring is that I was being stalked by someone on campus and still do not feel safe (UCR didn’t do much to help my situation because he did not touch me). I still haven’t gotten any word either. No SGR, nothing. I think I have more than 30 credits tho because of AP credits, so I’m thinking that’s why? I also am a AG doll youtuber and have various tennis awards, a lot of volunteering as well (2 hospitals, animal shelter and elementary school). I really hope tomorrow won’t be a rejection because I am having panic attacks in my lectures right now and it is harder to concentrate because of the past memories of the stalker in my fall quarter class.
