Are there any sociology majors still waiting to hear back?
Long time lurker on here, I was JUST admitted right now but it says my major is “Open (Undecided)” and “School: Provost’s Office” I applied for Viterbi Comp Sci as my first choice and Comp Sci Game Design as my second choice. Anyone know why this may be? Thanks.
@cj3264 In an earlier post, zettasyntax said that it could be due to your desired school not having enough room or not thinking the major was right for you.
Just got accepted to SCA film and production for Fall 2019 today yall!
@cj3264, @Sana415 Congratulations to both of you!
Around what time were your decisions posted, did you get notified via email or portal?
@cj3264 The school admitted you. Viterbi did not. More applicants will still get accepted, so it’s not just a room issue, but also how Viterbi rated you compared to others. Could be academic (in your control) or even demographic (not in your control) reasons for that.
Congratulations! @Sana415
@GotYa55 you have the answer to your question already but if you want to spin the wheel and just call admissions to ask again (and hope you get a different person this time) you could ask again to be sure and see if you can get more information out of them. It tells them you still want to go, you just don’t want to cross into annoying bothersome land.
@CADREAMIN Should I not be enrolled in a 4 year university for the fall if I’m transferring in the spring?
Was checking my portal for decision…still nothing but noticed that is says “ Finanacial Aid Application in Review” … is this a good sign??? Or am I reading into something that is nothing ?
@viterbi2021 everyone has the same thing if im not wrong.
Thanks @MoonKnight and @4my3kgbg I recieved an email that there was a status update on my portal around 5:30ish today. Good luck everybody and keep the faith!
@MoonKnight You can take up to 7, but you have to think of time as they are very accelerated. Cost is about $1700 a credit. Of course, you can attend your four year this fall before transferring in the spring. From your other posts, the bigger question is why are you already thinking of transferring out of USC before you have even started? Why apply at all or even go? Are you really that worried about safety? World leaders, celebrities, politicians, and the Who’s Who of CA+ send their kids there and they survive just fine. What is your intel that is making you think about this so much…You are in the LA area so assume you are familiar with things there - so why all the worry?
I think leaving your school to attend USC for a semester, then thinking you are leaving USC after a semester is silly (and doesn’t look good for you either) - it sounds like you just want bragging rights that you got in or go to USC. But if you aren’t staying, why go in the first place?
@blueskies2day I really want to go to USC. And I do want to stay. I’m just concerned about safety after hearing all the news of people who got killed. Overall, I love everything about the school. The only downside is the area around the school which if dangerous enough, would be the only thing that would make me want to leave. Otherwise, the school is perfect for me.
Almost forgot to ask, do you have the link where it says you can take up to 7 units?
@MoonKnight Do you mean summer courses at USC itself? I took 12 units in two summer semesters at USC. Financial aid is very limited. As a spring admit, I was able to get a summer Cal Grant and summer Pell Grant with the funds I would have used in the fall, but that was all the aid I received. I had to take out a Parent PLUS loan to cover the rest. The courses are pretty fast-paced, yeah. I took CSCI 104 (seven weeks). CSCI 170 (six weeks), and WRIT 340 (8 weeks) during the first summer session I did at USC. It was a bit tougher than I was expecting, so I personally wouldn’t recommend taking so many.
@zettasyntax Yes, I’m talking about summer courses specifically at USC because I would need some catching up to do when I transfer.
I was just saying 7 because a course a session makes sense, so that would be 7 or 8. Not a hard/fast number, just a judgement. More than that is certainly a grind, although you could try to do two in a session.
Do you realize how many tens of thousands of students attend USC without incident every year? Over the last 20 years, hundreds of thousands, do the math on statistics and please do some research on the incidents you are referring to. Unfortunately they were well out of the USC campus area/zone and in the very bad parts of town. One was in the campus zone but walking alone in the late night/early morning hours during summer when no one was around the campus or neighboring streets. (Which was the prompt in them starting DPS patrols, before that, they didn’t do enough at USC, that’s for sure.) I’m not victim blaming in anyway, but everyone has to learn when to go where and where not to go at all. Ya gotta grow up sometime. For goodness sake, you are from LA and unless in a bubble, you have to know how areas change from good to bad very quickly.
Does anyone know what day is the transfer orientation day for USC SCA?
@blueskies2day Thanks. I think I might have done a little too much research of the surrounding neighborhoods that I over-stressed myself about USC. It’s a really good school and I do still want to go there. I’ll try to worry less from now on. Also, if there is no set unit requirement for the summer, does that mean we can possibly take 3 courses?
@Sana415 They should send you the email requesting you to sign up for orientation. Depending on whether you are going for the fall or spring, you sign up for either the summer or winter one.
@MoonKnight Yes. I took exactly three courses during summer 2016 and summer 2017. I do recommend trying to take them during different sessions as @blueskies2day suggested. During summer 2016, all three of my classes started on the same day, so I was taking them all at once. It was a bit much. In summer 2017, one of my classes started as another ended, so that was a lot more manageable.
