Accepted to Dornsife (spring admit)
4.0 GPA, one year transfer (junior standing)
Not to wind everyone up, but when they are wrapping up as things are now, they tend to have a busy evening followed by morning notifications between 10-11am. Not sure this was the “busy evening” and it will be followed up tomorrow in the a.m., but I know those left are checking every minute anyway, so I didn’t think it would hurt to tell you to check in then and see if anything posts.
Congrats to those that got good news, still pulling for the rest!
@jorgetirebiter Transfer housing is just awkward no matter what - I get thinking USC housing is great, but where one lives as a transfer has little to do with their housing experience - after freshman year housing is a more of a jumble, people don’t have class standing or same major etc., that they are grouped around as freshman, so a hall has way less in common. The Village has a sophomore vibe outside of the scholarship dorm, but sophs that don’t get it are spread out and many choose outside housing anyway. The dorms can actually be more isolating with the visitor rules, etc…Transfers get placed in the middle of dorms with othes that likely have established peeps or groups. Not to sound negative, but just realistic - it is not going to be the freshman type dorm experience people dream of, that ship has sailed. And it isn’t like Disney movies show - perfect decorated and gossipy pj parties, lol. Many students already have their groups so it isn’t “8 floors of open doors” like it is as a first year. So they have to find other ways to be socially successful and not rely on the housing situation.
The key to success as a transfer is meeting as many people as possible which can be done by connecting online if they can now, and taking advantage of every social encounter at orientation where they have a chance to meet other transfers in their major (students tend to segregate that way a lot). Then the first week - they should be introducing themselves to anyone they have more than a second with (elevator, in a food line, etc), and finally, by joining clubs/groups. It is great your D is looking at a sorority - even if she decides it isn’t for her - the two week experience of rush is one of the best ways to meet a ton of people. Not everyone that goes through it is 100% committed, some are just trying it on to see if it fits. So lots of opportunity to connect with peeps in or out of a sorority by doing rush.
post edit: thanks for the kind words! She will have a great year.
@uscstressed If it’s not too personal, why do you want to defer? Fall is such a great time to start. Did you get your Gateway lease transferred?
10th of July, received an update on my USC portal. I got accepted at Marshall’s business school !After being rejected I sent an appeal letter, and after three weeks, of F#KING anxiety, I got admitted for Spring 2020 classes!
I am an international student from CC in So-Cal, with a 3.67 G.P.A., and I had a 2.0 GPA in my highschool and also during college, in Brazil. In this spring semester, I have received a C in my Sociology class… But, I have received A’s in two math classes and also physics, which I was taking at the same term.
If anyone would like to ask questions, feel free I will be more than glad to help!
Keep The Faith !!
@brookeiu You may mention “health issue” without specific word “mental” as there is no advantage to mention “mental health issue”.
@brookeiu, I also found @CADREAMIN reply to your question was very helpful!. Good luck! Thanks @CADREAMIN for very thoughtful answer!
Still waiting for a decision. seems like there could be a big wave at the end of the week judging from last year’s thread. Hopefully we still have a chance
Hey guys. Long-time lurker. Just wanted to update y’all about my decision status… I was rejected on May 31 w/ a 4.0 transferable GPA w/ 60+ transferable units & some decent E.C. I appealed & got an email stating there was an update on my admissions portal on July 10th. I SIR’d to UCLA already & signed up for their transfer summer program that starts on the 31st of July, so I definitely want to make my decision ASAP. However, UCLA did give me a decent FA offer, so it will all come down to USC’s FA offer. Does anyone know how long 'till USC gives me a FA offer? On my admissions letter, it states how I have to accept or decline my offer of admission 2 weeks from the day I received my decision. So the clock is definitely ticking for me. USC’s always been my dream school, so I definitely would rather be a Trojan than a bruin.
I have a question about placement exam. I don’t need to take any math class anymore since I finished my major’s math requirement. Do I still have to take the math placement test? Also same question w chemistry placement exam. Because I already finished Gen chem 1 and 2.
@EricksonAguilera I’d call USC’s FA office to inquire about their timing.
I’m just not sure I can get everything together this late… I did transfer my lease so I don’t have housing now. In addition, I accepted a job that is directly related to my major and I hate to back out, plus it’s great experience. Do you think starting in Fall would be a much better idea? Really torn about what to do. And really grateful to be accepted!!
@uscstressed I mean of course it’s always better to start in the Fall. You’ll graduate with your class, meet some people etc. But, there’s also nothing wrong with starting in Spring. My boyfriend got accepted for Spring last year so he started then and he still enjoyed it a lot. Took a little bit longer to meet some friends because everyone was adapted already, but he had his roommates and met people through them. Honestly, whatever works best for you!
@uscstressed that’s some very good reasons for deferring! College isn’t a race, a semester or year doesn’t make a difference in the long run. And the job sounds like a great thing that could really add value to your resume. You should have no problem asking to defer. Contact your advisor if it isn’t an obvious option on line. You may be able to do up to a year but not positive on that. May vary for different transfers, not sure. Let us know!
And just to help others as well, how did you get your lease transferred? Did you list it somewhere?
@transferusc88 So I called admissions anyway because I had a really hard time sleeping last night, and I couldn’t wait any longer.
I asked admissions why my SGR disappeared on my portal, and she told me why. (I just needed a more legitimate reason for calling). She said that meant that the admissions office got my SGR, and that it was processed on June 21st. She also asked me for my information just to make sure that they had gotten it, and they had, so that’s good on my part. Then she said USC admissions will continue to be rolling out by the end of next week. She said “you finished the semester off with good grades, so just sit tight and you’ll hear from us soon.” Honestly, I took that with a grain of salt, but at least she was nice enough to say that lol.
My SGR just disappeared from my portal just now.
@GotYa55 OMG! Hopefully some good news soon!
Hey, my portal updated yesterday at 5:27 with an acceptance for Fall 2019 at Dornsife but I have yet to receive a package. Does anyone know if you still get the acceptance packages in the mail even when you’re admitted so late?
Congratulation. could you please share your GPA?
My gpa IS 3.46 . Completed Honor program at CC. 100% of GE Completed. Excellent references . Not sure if I have a chance. Called them today .They said until Monday, all emails will go out.
