2019-2020 USC Transfer

@airway1 The transfer acceptance rate (which has been in high 20s) is completely separate than the regular admission rate which is around 11% so don’t see any game in that.

@Doodlesack $300

hey ya’ll long time lurker ya’ll. Was basking in the sun like a gay gecko when i found my acceptance letter ya’ll! got accepted for spring ya’ll!

Acceptance to fall is the 11%… spring enrollment for freshman and any pathways aren’t counted in the admissions acceptance rate… USC is well know to admit a large transfer class and fall is the rate they announce while spring is not included…that’s gaming… A few schools do this With pathways, guarantee transfers and other ways of managing admits

@airway1 Frankly, I think USC accepts way too many transfers and it strains the services the school provides, so not a huge fan of the current USC transfer policy. Regardless, the kids on here are just applicants/students looking for help. The point about USC gaming admissions figure has nothing to do with transfers. USC is very selective with or without gaming, no question there. It is a school thousands and thousands consider their dream desitination for a college education.

I am always amused by posters that intermittingly bop onto a school site just to hate on them without substantiated or accurate information, rather than being helpful to applicants - which is the purpose of this forum, and particularly this thread.

Pretty easy to infer from those kind of posts/posters that someone wasn’t accepted, , they begrudge privates or publics in general, or they can’t afford a school, etc., and bitterness remains.

@Steamedz I can’t imagine anything that you would need to do in person in terms of registration stuff for USC. To be sure - I know nothing about your visa or entrance/exit of the U.S. type issues if you are international and that is what you are asking about.

But in terms of USC paperwork, everything can be done on phone or online. You are in and good to go! After deposit, nothing much goes on until you register for orientation, then go to that. If you are in LA area, I might suggest checking out housing in and outside of USC just to see what options are and to be more familiar with area if you are heading out of the country.

Just got my acceptance letter for the spring. I am going to be a sophomore and am beyond excited. Fight on!

hi guys! I have a quick question about switching majors. I got accepted to dornsife but after a long deliberation of whether or not I should stay in my current major, I decided it really will not be in my best interest to stay. I wanted to switch into a major that is in the keck medical school and was wondering how i would go about that? My brother said i would have to email the advisor for my new major but would that be the only thing i would have to do? Thank you in advance!

@transferusc88 Nooooo!!! :disappointed: At least you gave it a shot. I hate that you had to wait all the way until July to get your rejection. I am sure you will end up somewhere great though and I wish you luck in your future endeavors!

To everyone who got accepted on Friday, congrats! It’s been a long wait for you all, so welcome to the Trojan Family. Looking forward to being on campus with you all in the fall/spring!

@Doodlesack My appeal was a long time ago. Way back in 2014. I can give you that timetable for reference. I learned that I was rejected on June 27th or so. I drafted my appeal almost immediately. I did not hear back until early to mid August. It was quite a long wait. I got into USC the next year as a spring admit.

@bissmiss Contacting the advisor for the major is the right move ? Looking at this, it seems like you need a USC GPA of 3.0 to declare any undergrad Keck major. So you’d have to take some courses your first semester and if you have a 3.0 or better, it seems like you should be in. This page doesn’t really go into any other details, but this seems to be a fairly standard process. An email might be all it takes to transfer majors within the same school, but if you are changing schools, the process is more involved.

@bissmiss No, it is not just as easy as emailing an advisor to get into Keck. Keck to Dornsife is a quick change, Dornsife to Keck is a process, as it should be. You will have to apply and meet course requirements. As a transfer, time may be an issue as Keck majors are very credit intensive. As an applicant to Dornsife East Asian studies do you have the science/lab courses that Keck wants to see of it’s transfer applicants? Those are completely different acceptances into completely different studies since one is liberal arts the other is science. When evaluating a transfer app for a program they are looking at the courses you took and I would assume you did not take those Keck would have wanted to see. You would have to take those before applying for internal transfer and hit a certain gpa. So no, it is not an easy major change like others.

@CADREAMIN Thank you for the reply! I forgot to mention I was a permanent resident. I have not been back to my home country in a while so my parents asked if I wanted to go back this summer. Regarding my previous question, I was just curious to see if there was documentation I had to complete in-person. Also, I am currently located in the NB area; therefore, I am considering housing near USC. Once I receive further information–hopefully tomorrow–I will definitely take a look at the available housing options.

@steamedz - It sounds like it is time to visit your parents! You won’t know for awhile if you get USC housing, so just be looking at options whether checking around the area or online and with some phone calls too. But in terms of USC, no need to be there till your orientation. Newport Beach = NB? Sweet.

@zettasyntax woahhh, so there is a chance appeal applicants hear until like literally days before starting the Fall semester!? That’s wild. I feel like if you hear back in August you are most likely to be considered for the Soring rather than the Fall !?

@Doodlesack Yes, like CADREAMIN mentioned, it’s pretty much a case of “they get to it when they get to it”. There is no formal appeal process for transfers, so USC doesn’t have a deadline to notify those that try an appeal. I wish I remembered the exact date, but I just recall it being a few days into August. If you’re hearing back that late, yeah, fall admission is pretty much out of the question.

@keepthefaith96 would u mind sharing what you talked about in your appeal??

Hey guys, I was wondering how poorly someone would have do in order for USC to rescind your acceptance. Has there been any cases where this happens?

I was admitted for fall and found out this Friday! Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the package after finding out?

It an be a week. Package doesn’t have anything in it that isn’t online. It’s more of a keepsake, gorgeous and cool, but you can find all you need online.

@ackamucka Yes it happens, every year. No D’s or F’s for sure.

Forgot to post but I got accepted to Marshall on Friday! I’ll be waiting for my aid package as I am already enrolled at CSUS.
