2019-2020 USC Transfer

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/2124719-usc-2019-2020-transfer-students-stats-decisions-only.html#latest Thread is here. Everyone who got accepted please post here

I have so much anxiety about getting in to USC! At the time I had a 3.71, and right now a 3.75 (took one winter class and got an A which brought up my gpa). I applied as a Political Science major with second choice French. I had 49 units completed when I applied. 12 A’s, 2 Bs, and one C which is what scares me because it was in U.S. History from 1876. when I took that history class I had 24 units (15 at PCC and 9 at GCC). AT GCC I got all straights As but they are not transferable. im not a TTP. in my application I mentioned that I had a rough semester having taken all those classes, but I mentioned perseverance. I’ve had a job for over a year and a half and participated in a political campaign. does anyone have any ideas about my chances of getting in or SGR?

I know that everyone in this thread reeeeeeaallly wants to go to USC but if you do get in, make sure it’s worth the investment. Don’t take out huge loans for a degree that has low employment/income right after college. Make sure that you can acquire a comfortable/affordable life in some way after you graduate. Yes college is important and yes USC is a great college BUT no college, no matter how great, will save you from the agonizing adversity of low income and huge debt. It is always always more important what you do and who you know, not where you went. I am only saying this because I’m seeing people on here swear to go to USC no matter the cost and that is an extremely dangerous promise to commit to.

I agree with you soooo much!! Not many students understand that. You only will understand it when u r a graduating senior

@bksyazd Completely agree! I love usc, but even if I were to get accepted but my financial aid were to come out low then I don’t think I’ll be going to usc. I don’t think it’s worth putting yourself in 60k+ of debt for an undergraduate degree. I feel like most college students nowadays are so wrapped up on school prestige and that they think they’ll get a high paying job right after college. Even though prestige can definitely increase your chances, it can only take you so far. At some point, work experience is going to outweigh school prestige/gpa. I also feel like most college students aren’t aware of how much of a burden debt really is until it hits them after college when they’re struggling to find work or a decent paying job.

@okurrr Totally understand. It’s kind of worrying hearing that we may learn of the decision as late as July. But I’m sure they’ll start rolling out for Non-TTP folk soon enough with some form of an update. :neutral:

@jakecap1123 Oh wow! What a coincidence, I actually go to Northeastern!

Do we know when the next wave will be?

@enigma1199 wow, that’s funny. May I ask why you are trying to transfer? I applied as a media and screen studies and was interested in their professional co-op program.

@enigma1199 @jakecap1123 my son was accepted to Northeastern too to start Fall 2019, but he also got TTP at USC. He is keeping that in his hip pocket. But, I’m interested to hear why you two are considering transferring from Northeastern. Thanks so much.

Anyone know what USC considers a full time semester? I’m assuming it’s 15 units, but I’m taking 4 classes which are 12 units total this semester and my cc considers that as full time but I’m worried that USC will not. I read that admissions really emphasizes that you need to be full time (15 unit+?) every semester to be competitive as a transfer applicant.

Anywhere between now until May 31st lol @wkdalswjd

Starting to get antsy and checking CC definitely doesn’t help. Lol. I’m assuming the buzz of non-TTP transfers getting accepted was fake news. Would it be the worst thing to call them before the end of the month? Not rn but eventually. All of my other commitment fees are due the first of May and the last thing I want is to lose 500+ dollars

@symonaidanasa I don’t go to Northeastern currently- I applied and still waiting to hear back (I go to a community college in AZ) but I was interested in their professional co-op program.

Do the admitted students got mail or email first?

@kcasssuu actually…
I read the post from the (first to post) accepted ttp’r;
Texted my D to check her PORTAL;
She checked her EMAIL because she was in class, confirmed that she received the email regarding an update to her portal;
Checked her portal after leaving class.

So, it was because of a post on this forum. I don’t know which came first (chicken or the egg) the portal or the email. I assume the portal, only because that just makes sense.

Side note, her box should be arriving today (per informed delivery). I’m assuming that since her acceptance was not a part of a “mass acceptance,” USPS informed delivery worked. We will be seeing her in person in three days, so we’ll bring the box for her official USC acceptance opening (aka hallmark moment). Her FaceTime opening of the portal update was a good memory as well, coincidentally on her father’s birthday too.

Good luck to you all!

@TeriYaki1 Thanks! I am from California and didn’t receive anything yet. Hope for the best.

@okurrr I applied to Boston U too. Whats ur gpa

@pcctransfer16 I go to PCC too, lol

@jakecap1123 @symonaidanasa … Northeastern is an amazing school and co-op is definitely a plus!

I’m a Media & Screen major and it’s a good program, and you can make of it what you want… but I guess USC SCA has always been a dream for me. I definitely wanted to give it a go and it is not secret that USC’s Film Production program is absolutely fantastic and I feel that USC’s collaborative nature and choice to focus on your preferred path of the process (Directing, Editing, Cinematography etc.) is far better. Northeastern’s production classes don’t really have that sort of pathway for you, and its mostly individual projects depending on the classes you take. A lot of my production modules have been very individual-based.
