2019-2020 USC Transfer

@ramblebrisket don’t stress! not getting an SGR doesn’t mean you will get rejected. a lot of times, they will send an SGR for many many different reasons and either they don’t need to see that from you, or they haven’t sent it yet. don’t be worried.

If you are on a quarter system, assuming you did well in the Winter Quarter and if you have not done so, definitely send in your Winter Quarter grades immediately. Don’t wait for USC to request it, otherwise, it will just delay the process. Last year, a non TTP from a UC, did that and was accepted in April.

Above #1481 was accepted as a sophomore transfer after 2 quarters of UC freshman winter grades.

Does USC send out rejections on a rolling basis as well? Or do they tend send them out at the last possible minute? Not trying to make anyone nervous about not hearing back fast enough, but it might be helpful to those of us who are trying to decide about schools that have an earlier commitment deadline.

Also, for those of you who have another school waiting to hear back from you, remember that it is always on option to commit to a backup school and then just lose the deposit money if you end up getting accepted into USC. I know its not ideal, but it does (literally) buy you a little extra time. You will not be required to pay the tuition of the backup school if you are accepted into your first choice and decide to go there. Plus, if you get a rejection, you still have the other school as a safety. I did this when I was applying for colleges out of high school and got waitlisted from my first choice. It really wasn’t a big deal.

@90smix i searched this site for hours, and from what I saw it depends on your major if an sgr or wgr is a good thing. like for me, i applied to annenberg as a pr major, and for my major that’s apparently not a good thing lol. majority of the annenberg ppl who got wgr/sgr were rejected from what i researched. :frowning:

If I didn’t get any grade requests and I applied in Dornsife is that bad?

I also haven’t gotten one from dornsife

Here’s a link to USC’s counselor blog that explains why they ask for spring grades:
https://admissionblog.usc.edu/7387-2/

If you have grades that you haven’t submitted, do so. Getting an SGR is not always good and not always bad. It depends, it be can’t generalized for any school/major.

Wave of acceptances likely early to mid next week for mostly Dornsife and Marshall. Annenberg around May 1, and Viterbi mid May. After the wave, those schools continue to sputter out acceptances throughout May. A wave of rejections will be around May 23-24th.

Above estimations apply to a lot of applicants, but not all. For some, this process will go well into June and July, ugh.

Disclaimer: Of course, they are in charge and can always change things up, but that is most educated guess I have for now.

@CADREAMIN is this information from what happened in previous years?

I was wondering if anybody could tell me where I stand, because I’m in kind of a weird predicament.
I go to a California Community College.
College GPA: 3.94 (1B in Gen Chem, during my first semester)
Major: Human Biology
Units Completed: 70
Major pre-reqs: All completed
ECs: Pretty good (e.g. VP of IT at American Medical Student Association, started doing BioChem research this semester, hospital Volunteering, STEM tutor…)

My predicament is that I got 2Ds in a couple of online GE classes in my second semester of college (I forgot to take the finals.) I retook both classes twice (once at a different college during the winter intersession, and once at the same college), and got As in both classes, both times. I haven’t gotten anything other than As since (3 semesters ago), including in Major-level Bio classes, Organic Chemistry and Calculus. I know USC is an exceptionally difficult school to get into, so I was just wondering whether I still have a good shot at getting in.

Edit: Because USC doesn’t do grade replacement, I have a 3.76 w/ respect to USC.

@whereto2022 yes, many years and 5000+ posts. Been tracking awhile. Need another hobby.

My decision dates:

UCLA: Today or 4/24
UCB: 4/19
UCSD: 4/20 ish
UCI: this week or next week
USC: 4/20 ish to 5/30
Emory: 4/24

Best of luck everyone!

@CADREAMIN My Spring grades should come out next week.

If I get between a 3.9 to 4.0, should I mail my official transcript to USC again even though they haven’t sent me an SGR? Will it hurt?

@CADREAMIN any chance portals are updated on friday? TTP got portal updates on last friday, the 12th?

@whereto2022 Yes, they may come anytime between now and the end of May. But I think the next wave will mostly come on April 20 ish.

I would love decisions on 4/20.

I feel like I’d get my grade request late? I’m on a semester system and obviously my spring grades don’t come in middle of May. I did send them a transcript including my fall 2018 grades. At this point idk lol

@surefineitsok I did the same that’s why I’m so confused as well
