2019-2020 USC Transfer

@sagaciousforever I didn’t live on-campus, so I don’t really know what that’s like. I’d say a lot of students are very friendly though. I was so lost my first week of classes. Since I wasn’t living on-campus, I actually didn’t explore the campus beforehand and got lost. I actually recall a time where I literally went around in circles, haha. The second week though, a fellow transfer student in one of my classes offered to show me around the school and even took me to the student union building where she showed me various places. She was a Topping Scholar, so she showed me where they were at and urged me to apply since I was still eligible as a spring admit. She also showed me the Latinx community called El Centro (which is apparently being renamed). I really loved hanging out there. I didn’t particularly vibe with a lot of Viterbi students and I’m not sure why. I’m not very social in general though. I likely never would have approached the girl that showed me around campus, so I’m happy that she was so friendly and was able to tell that I was having a rough time adjusting. It took me a little while to make other friends/acquaintances, but I found that most of them were from my major’s department. We’re a small major with approximately 70 students, so I was very familiar with a lot of the students after awhile since I was always taking classes with them. They were all so nice. I stayed in touch with that girl throughout my time at USC and I was very grateful to have met her. I also have no idea how I managed to graduate before her - that goes to show you that I really rushed my undergrad experience.

Also, wow, you knew people that heard back in July? Here I was thinking June 6th was a long wait to hear something without getting an SGR. If you’ve never checked out the previous transfer threads, there’s a Marshall guy from the 2014-2015 year that got an SGR, eventually heard back mid-July, and still got in for the fall semester. I’m still very unsure what to actually make of the whole spring admit thing at times.

@zettasyntax Would you mind sharing why you were not accepted the first time you applied to USC with the SGR?

@zettasyntax Thanks a lot for sharing such vivid and long experience of yours. I appreciate your effort in sharing! I am applying to USC Marshall so it’s a big group of people there. I have heard from my friends that Marshall is highly competitive (the curve), but I still can make every effort in forming close relationships. That matters the most.

Yes, I know two people from my school who heard back in July (before July 10th) without an SGR. I am not making this up. Anyways, I will wish for the best and hopefully, I will make it to Fall 2019.

Fight on!

any idea when Cinematic Arts applicants might hear back? I haven’t heard back from any schools I have applied to.

Just got a winter grade request even though I ended up sending them my winter grades over a week ago. Is this normal or am I just out of the loop?

Hey guys, does USC send you an email if they request documents or does it just pop up on the portal? I see a dropdown menu on my portal for files I can submit but idk if they’re asking for them or if it’s just there for people who need to upload them.

@MLPLBCC I believe they have to explicitly request the documents on your portal if they want you to send them in. They usually send out emails when they request documents, but not always, so make check your portal regularly.

Also, I posted this earlier, but I got no replies, so Imma try again.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me where I stand, because I’m in kind of a weird predicament.
I go to a California Community College.
College GPA: 3.94 (1B in Gen Chem 1)
Major: Human Biology
Units Completed: 70
Major pre-reqs: All completed
ECs: Pretty good (e.g. VP of IT at American Medical Student Association, started doing BioChem research this semester, hospital Volunteering, STEM tutor…)

My predicament is that I got 2Ds in a couple of online GE classes in my second semester of college (I forgot to take the finals.) I retook both classes and got As, and haven’t gotten anything other than As since (3 semesters ago), including in Major-level Bio classes, Organic Chemistry and Calculus. USC is an exceptionally difficult school to get into, so I was just wondering whether I still have a shot at getting in.

^^^ I think you have as good a chance as the rest of us. You never really know what makes your application stand out more than someone else’s, especially when thousands of people with similar stats and situations get accepted or rejected. It’s not over till it’s over, so for now, I think just try to wait it out. Don’t stress too much, even though you stumbled a little, you managed to pick yourself up.

Has anybody who applied to Annenberg heard anything at all yet? Any SGRs/acceptances/denials?

@ily8853 I applied to Annenberg and haven’t heard anything!

^^ same

@ily8853 i’m an annenberg junior applicant and gotta wgr on April 15

@Duvergay are you on the quarter or semester system currently?

@transferusc88 quarter system :smiley:

Anyone applying to the School of Cinematic Arts? Here are my stats I thought I would share for a better idea to see if I stand a chance.

HS GPA: 3.33 Unweighted, 3.75 Weighted
Attended a public college prep high school so my grades were not stellar

HS Activities:
National Honors Society
Student Government
Drama Club
Yearbook Editor
HS Student of the Month
High School Media and Television Student of the Year: Senior Year
3rd in District Wide Film Festival

My test scores were not stellar: 24 ACT, 1200 SAT but I have been at community college for two years and have more than 30 credits so I don’t think they will look at them.

Post-high school career:

GPA: 3.848 Unweighted
Honors College Attendee
President’s Scholarship Recipient
Held Internship for 1 year at local media and graphic design company
Volunteered on three different political campaigns during 2018 midterm elections (1 governors race, 1 state house, 1 state senate)
Freelance photographer for portraits and theater productions

Good luck to all applicants!

@jakecap1123 I did not apply to SCA, but I did apply to SDA.

Has anyone else applied to/heard from SDA or SCA? Does USC send out decisions by school? If so, when do SDA and SCA send decisions?

A bit off topic but is anyone a Health Promotion and Disease Prevention applicant? Or in one of the majors that’s in the Keck school of medicine?

Annenberg sophomore applicant, got a wgr April 16. Transferring from UC
