2019-2020 USC Transfer

@sagaciousforever ah ok got it thank you so much!! Didn’t get an SGR so hopefully I’ll hear back soon (with good news)!

@whostolemycookie SGR is an ongoing event though. Some applicants get it at the end of April and some in May so you never know. But I hope that you will get accepted right away!

Wave of acceptances likely early to mid next week (23rd ish) for mostly Dornsife and Marshall. Annenberg around May 1, and Viterbi mid May. After the wave, those schools continue to sputter out acceptances throughout May. A wave of rejections will be around May 23-24th.

Above estimations apply to a lot of applicants, but not all. For some, this process will go well into June and July, ugh.

Even though I have a 4.0 and did all the requirements, I lowkey think I’ll get rejected just because Viterbi is so competitive

@sagaciousforever I was a spring admit, yup. I started January 2016 and finished August 2017. I was told that I had to take summer classes if I wanted to participate in the spring 2017 commencement ceremony. Honestly, I wish I would have just waited though. I felt like I rushed my experience somewhat. I was technically only with my major’s department for 3 semesters and I felt like I was really getting to know the students/faculty just as I was getting ready to leave.

The first time I applied, I got my SGR around April 23rd-ish, so I definitely expect some more decisions soon

@CADREAMIN “For some, this process will go well into June and July, ugh”. This is absolutely true because two of my friends heard back in last July without SGR.

Also, are you sure that rejections won’t come this month and next month before May 20ish?

So people who hear back from now to May 10 ish are either accepted or get an SGR?

@zettasyntax Thanks! How were your overall USC experiences on campus life, dorm (I am very interested in the living condition), and the friendliness of other students? I have several high school friends at USC so fitting in won’t be an issue but I also want to make new friends!

@DDHH2017 That’s the stress of this process talking. Hang in there - with a 4.0 you have done all you can do. Are you going in as a sophomore or junior, I forget…but you are in a great position either way! Good luck!

The other aspect of this is how many will be accepted then be stunned to not get FA or enough FA to attend. As a CSS school, they factor in things that the simple FAFSA does not. FA is not my area of expertise, but in every cycle we see many shocked by their aid (or lack there of).

@sagasciousforever - May 23 is the big wave of rejections before the June 1st date, versus a few here or there (usually from the specialty type programs), I think there was already a couple rejections posted, but there aren’t large numbers of rejections until later May - many are left hanging for awhile still.

@CADREAMIN Sophomore non-TTP

@CADREAMIN Thanks for letting me know!

At least this ensures that if I hear back before May 20 ish, that will be an acceptance or an SGR.

I am glad that I am not rejected at this point!

@CADREAMIN But I am still a little anxious, as two of my friends from Pepperdine both got into Spring and they heard back at the beginning of July. I hope that if admitted I can get into Fall because Spring’s housing situation is terrible. My GPA is lower than one of them (3.9) so we will see. I have a 3.71 from Pepperdine by the way. Rising junior Marshall applicant.

I got mostly “A” in business classes (Financial Accounting, Business Calculus, Business Statistics, and Organizational Behavior), so I hope that’s a good sign!

Are spring grade requests sent out for final grades you received in that semester/quarter ?

What do you guys think the chances are that we get some decisions tomorrow/friday?

@Caliweedandusc This is totally my opinion, so you can believe it or not.

My instinct tells me that USC will release their second wave on April 20 ish so most likely next week.

Tomorrow or Friday is still possible and you never know.

Is it common for transfer students coming in as juniors to get sgr or are we most likely to be admitted/rejected

@pcctransfer16 More likely to get admitted/rejected. Rising sophomores tend to get SGR more often. But you never know because a lot of rising juniors also get that too.

While next couple days would be great (here’s hoping), next week is closer to times used last several years. But they could change it up. Better to plan farther out and be pleasantly surprised, rather than live in angst each day till then.

Getting in is a bit of a crap shoot, that’s for sure. This is not a CSU or UC, it is done very differently than those systems. 4.0’s are rejected all the time - there are so many things they look at that you have no control over. Half male and half female cut the number of admits in half for everyone. Demographics - where someone is from, race, URM, first gen, geography…more things you can’t control. How many spots the school/major has. FA won’t be enough for many…so many things beyond your gpa factor in whether you will be admitted and attend any school. All you can do is your best, apply and hope! But don’t take any rejections personally - many times it is not what you did or didn’t do, but rather, who they need for these certain pieces of the puzzle which ultimately is a picture of the class they need to build. That is college admissions these days.

@CADREAMIN I totally agree with you. I will post here as soon as I hear back.

I will hope for the best and fight on!

@taylort99 It took about 5 days to get to USC

@CADREAMIN so true and always full of wisdom, thank you. The transfer process especially feels like one massive lottery to be honest compared to the alternative.
