2019 NACAC List

@Mwfan1921 Penn State admits by major, and has hundreds of majors, so some rather obscure majors (that most high school students may have never heard of or considered) may still have a few openings.

@SailingMomof2

If it’s a smaller LAC with a smallish endowment and dwindling enrollment and a low Forbes financial grade, I would be concerned, without regard to whether it’s on the list.

Even then, the odds that it will close in the next three years (before a kid already attending graduates) are small.

There are some really excellent schools on that list!

@allyphoe thanks. I’m a nervous mom here freaked by news of schools closing. My kid is an incoming freshman at Bennington.

@SailingMomof2 - I’m a tad concerned too. My kid is headed to Hobart. Great school, but they’ve had some tough publicity that past few years, and they are in the middle of upstate NY, where there are no more high school seniors. I hope they can turn things around.

At least 16 schools on this list that offer full ride for national merit …Coincidence, I think not… If your not going to fill anyway, give out free spots to top students and try to raise your ranking. Be careful you sometimes get what you pay for.

I don’t think there is any concern around Bennington or Hobart…at least not that I’ve heard.

The $200 million endowment worries me a bit. I’ll have to start fundraising! Lol.

I’m really stunned to see Hobart on that list. But every year there are some excellent schools.

There will be more on Saturday and Monday.

@HKimPOSSIBLE

There are some pretty amazing schools on this list. Kids who were unhappy with their results this year have some excellent opportunities here.

For anyone looking for a smaller LAC, Washington & Jefferson is worth a look.

Yes, I thought of @HKimPOSSIBLE too!

If anyone’s child’s school is on this list, it isn’t a huge red flag. I didn’t think there were too many major surprises on this list, whereas I seem to recall being more surprised last year. Colleges might not meet yield for several reasons, and they aren’t always nefarious. Sometimes it’s because they’ve added classes or new housing. Some colleges on the list might literally be looking for just a few more students, and are trying to cover all their bases. The majority of colleges here have been around for a long time and are unlikely to close any time soon.

The thing with hkim is he has an EFC of $0, but is DACA–so he doesn’t qualify for a Pell grant, and can’t take the Direct student loan, so he basically needs a full ride…which is probably not available at any of the schools on that list…although I would be very happy to be proven wrong.

Thank you guys for letting me know. The issue is money for me and I’m not sure if these colleges would like to fork out that much money for one student who can’t take out loans or receive FedAid or the Pell Grant.

Apparently some more were added but the listing is very difficult to navigate and it’s hard to see which ones are new :frowning:

I’ll update on Monday when I have Excel and multiple monitors.
