She is in NYU for Dance @birdie13 ? What type of background does she have? Would she say the classes are rigorous in terms of technical training?
@momstress2020 Yes, she is a freshman BFA major. She attended a boarding school for the arts/dance for 3 years in high school in SC. She has learned so much this year. She still takes pointe and partnering, well she did before Corona. From what she has told me they seem to encourage the entire creative process. She choreographed a piece in the fall that was performed and she was going to have another piece this spring. She tells me that everyone in Tisch is so creative. She has been in short films, video shoots, photography shoots, all in the short time that she was there. I’m happy to answer anymore questions!
@weathergirl10 My daughter lived in Goddard and didn’t have the greatest experience. It’s hard because you can’t request a roommate. She started the year in Greenwich which was temporary housing. It was actually a better situation, but further from the dance building. (A 30 min walk) When she moved to Goddard she was placed in a triple room-meant for 2 beds, but they put another bed in. It was very tight. She did get a Tisch Scholarship and we are so grateful for that. She gets the same amount each semester that she is there. They go year round for 3 years. She could have a little bit of time to take extra classes in the city but she usually has rehearsal. She def took extra classes at the beginning of the year. i think there are some kids who still take extra classes sometimes. But, now that she is home and NYU is close, we are taking it one day at a time. I can guarantee you when she makes it back in the city she is going to take advantage of EVERYTHING NYC has to offer! Good luck to your daughter!
@birdie13 Thank you so much. Did she say rather they take any other genres? Did she say the size her your classes? Like her freshman class in Dance was about how many? What dorm “was” she in?
@momstress2020 She takes pointe, partnering, contemporary, composition, not sure what else. There were 45ish in the freshman class this year. You do have to audition to be accepted to pointe. She lived in Goddard Hall this year.
@birdie13 My DD can do pointe. That’s no issues. We don’t know which hall she will get. We should absolutely have them connect.
Is the dance program competitive at tisch? was the audition hard? And how are the difficulty of classes?
