2020-2021 USC Transfer

I think someone has asked a similar question before, but I wanted to confirm: If i applied to Marshall and drop the Calc 2 class I am currently taking (I’ve had trouble adjusting to remote instruction for this heavy workload class), will it automatically disqualify me for admission? I am currently a sophomore.

@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS”

Where did you get the “100 acceptances so far” number from?

I’ve wondered if they’re hoping to withhold transfer decisions until closer to when they decide if fall will be on campus or not. Unlike other years, this year they will likely experience a unique level of “summer melt” if a majority of the fall semester has to be online and currently enrolled students decide to take a gap year or defer their commitment (maybe applies more to out of state and especially international students who don’t prefer an online platform). If that happens, USC will want students to fill in these empty spaces for financial benefits, and where do they get those fill-ins if they no longer have their transfer applicant pool? They don’t maintain a waitlist to pull from.

How does it look if I made a class P/NP? It’s not a major requirement or anything. I took it for Berkeley but they rejected me so will it look bad on my transcript? I’m applying as Business Admin and Stats 101 isn’t required, which is the class I made P/NP. My professor hasn’t been posting our grades, so I don’t know my status in the class so instead of getting a B I made it P/NP. What do you think? @CADREAMIN

@WCWSM52 I think they’re just saying that it seems like there have been few reports of acceptances so far, but there are 89 people in the official USC Transfer Facebook group.

Yeah, there is LITERALLY verbiage on the transfer applicant page that directly disputes this.

“Watch your e-mail for status updates. Applicants will receive either an admission decision or a request for spring-term grades by May 31.”

So if you have a request for spring-term grades, your decision will be pushed out but most applicants should hear back before May 31st.

For everyone on here: If they change their policy, they will update their page to reflect that. Until that point, anyone who tells you that you will receive it after May 31st is being speculative at best.

Just got an SGR (freshman applicant) for Viterbi CS. Kind of disappointed because I had 26 units with a 4.0 which is more than most freshmen applicants. I didn’t receive an email, it just showed up in my portal.

@Nykooi Don’t take it as a negative, you likely have a very important course in your semester, and they want to understand where you are at with it. Plus, only having 26 credits isn’t a lot. Don’t take it personally. They looked at your profile and said something like “they look like they have their stuff together but let’s verify.”

I agree with @NavyGuy2019 's comment about the Bellevue guy’s comments. This guy isn’t some Woj or Shams of USC admissions lol so it’s better to just take it all with a grain of salt. But if he’s right, then oh well! But if he’s wrong, y’all worried and believed him for nothing.

What other schools did you guys apply to?

@bean01262020 For me, it isn’t about being right or wrong, it’s about passing information that isn’t verifiable. I find it incredibly unlikely that they are passing this information along to @Bellevue34 but not passing it along to anyone else. I have no idea who this person is but they say a lot of things that are unverifiable.

It isn’t to say s/he is wrong, I’m just questioning why USC would use them as a springboard for admissions announcements. I am mostly saying USC doesn’t want 10,000 people calling them asking about it. If they have CONFIRMED that decisions won’t be out until after May 31st they sure as **** would update their transfer page to reflect that. So I am very guarded in what this person says.

@NavyGuy2019 It sounds like they misunderstood. I asked my counselor if decisions had any chance of being pushed back and she said no assuming you don’t receive an SGR.
I’m fairly certain I’m not getting an SGR since im not enrolled in anything so I’m trying to find comfort in that at least, lol

@NavyGuy2019 yep, same. Hopefully we hear something today but if not, I guess we’re waiting another week! Rinse and repeat until the 29th (or 31st if they actually decide to release on Sunday lol)

i just got my spring grades from my current college. should I submit them to USC even if they didn’t ask for them?

@justasadboy yeah you should. If you can send them your final transcripts now, you might as well. You need to do it no matter what, might as well get ahead of it.

Berkeley and UCLA. Got into both schools, just waiting back on USC, my first choice.

@navyguy2019 would it affect my decision negatively in any way even if the grades are good because I don’t want to submit something they didn’t ask for? thank you

@Nykooi i did it show up on the checklist?

@99suhjw I applied to Dornsife(English) and Annenberg(Journalism) as my second choice. I’m a junior transfer hoping to hear back today ? Transferring from a community college

UCLA, UCSD, SLO, UCI, UCSB, Berkeley, and some other cal states for electrical engineering. Got into all of them except Berkeley and SDSU. Just waiting on USC (my first choice). Going to UCSD if I don’t get in.

They need those grades no matter what, if you’re accepted you have to send them in. They must see them at some point, whether they are good or bad. You’re taking initiative by sending them in early.
