Keep in mind SGRs are not necessarily bad, but an indicator that they might want to see your performance in certain courses before making the final decision.
Do any of you know how the need based aid is for USC for transfer students? I’ve heard its very good for freshman, but I was wondering how it was for transfers.
@bruhhurbbruhhurb Getting a C in physics for Viterbi could be a deal breaker, frankly, it will likely be a deal breaker.
I would defnitely go to P/F over a C and hope they think you did P/F to avoid a B. I have a recent CS grad, and not to be more discouraging, Viterbi is extremely crazy competitive. Plenty of near perfect GPAs and SATs aren’t accepted. Freshman come in and go right into Calc III and 3rd or 4th year physics, and these are freshman. Essays and overall app has to bring it home to break the ties between these academice powerhouses. Their acceptance rate has been lower than overall rate for years.
@CADREAMIN oh… I’m a Viterbi applicant too and I’m taking Physics 4C which is like the equivalent of PHYS 153/173 at USC. If I get accepted but then get a C in the class, will I get rescinded? Should I take a pass/fail grading instead then? My GPA is a 4.0 right now so
@bean01262020 Ah sorry for the alarm. You would not get recinded with a C, the issue is more getting accepted with a C. I know that seems confusing, but applying with a C (can be big deal in a core/required course) is just different than being accepted, then getting a C (not a big deal).
When applying against so many applicants, imagine 30 applications in a pile that are roughly the same - all pretty stellar students - they have this scenario often. So to break the tie, they look for one little difference. Maybe it’s in the essay or some outside activity they did tied to their major, or maybe someone has a C in a major core course, while someone else has a C, but it’s in a course that doesn’t matter beans…that could be the difference that gets one accepted and one not.
@CADREAMIN ah yeah that makes sense but I assume that bruhhurb guy is in a similar situation as me since he’s a junior applicant and is considering switch to pass/fail bc of a C in physics 3 this semester. Should we still change to a pass/fail even after getting our decision or just keep the C since its no big deal?
Did anyone get in today?
@grapesoda2 I’m considered an independent student, for many reasons, so I’m not sure how it would relate to the rest, who are most likely still labeled as dependent. The Financial aid package for me was very generous.
Thank you for letting us know sea, I’m glad to hear they did that for you.
Hope everyone gets in today lol!
my withdraw button and update just went away!!!
@mill213 whats your major?
@arjauregui chem – dornsife
YOOOOOOO my withdraw button went away too!!! Viterbi applicant
@mill213 good luck!
i hope I’m not making a big deal out of nothing lol this is just the first thing I’ve seen happen regarding my app in forever
@mill213 last time this happened, decisions went out for them. Good luck to both of us!
The box under “USC applicant portal” also went away
@bean01262020 oh yay!! yes best of luck
Is It a good sign or a bad one?
