I was accepted for journalism on 5/21 at 5:26 p.m. via email. No WGR or SGR. Good luck brotha!
Does anyone else’s FAST on USC say Action Required still? I submitted my CSS profile and my FAFSA before the deadline but I still have the Action Required on my FAST. Should I be calling up the financial aid office?
I received my acceptance 2 days ago. I’ll be a junior when I transfer in but I also applied + appealed last year and I was rejected. Seems like it’s easier to get in as a junior but I’ve also shown grade improvement + I retook one of the classes I did poorly in the first time I applied and got an A- ( I also wrote about this in one of my essays) and that might’ve been taken into consideration. Don’t lose hope! If USC is truly your dream, apply again. I believe I had 7/8 of the GE’s completed.
do i need to submit my reply by june 1 or within two weeks of when i received my acceptance (may 21)?
within two weeks, so we have to submit it by June 4th!
You guys will get your FA before you have to commit in 2 weeks. You can go ahead and apply for housing, but I would also really be shopping the area to get familiar with options and price points. You can try, but assume you won’t get USC housing, especially this year.
@CADREAMIN When you say “apply for housing” do you mean to say that USC transfers aren’t guaranteed on-campus housing?
apparently some people’s acceptances were conditional; like they had to maintain a 3.5 gpa during the fall semester if they were admitted for the spring (according to the usc reddit), but my acceptance for spring 2021 didn’t say anything like that, so is it true that some people have conditional offers & others dont? i’m just wondering bc i’ll be taking community college classes in the fall before i go to usc.
Yes, some are conditional some are not. Doesn’t mean you can tank but others have specific requirements.
@goofyspooks housing is not guaranteed for transfers. Frankly, most transfers don’t get housing.
@fancyfirefox Since you only applied to USC, I would say just appeal. I am honestly surprised since your stats and ecs are amazing, better than mine I’d say. I’d suggest maybe being as genuine and heartfelt as u can in your appeal lol
Anyone have suggestions on searching for housing around campus and finding a roommate as a transfer? I already applied for on-campus housing but don’t think will get it
@sleeplessincali Two weeks ago my daughter’s admissions counselor told her that they will wait for her CC here in NY to release her Spring grades before they make their final decision, which won’t be until mid June, but then last Monday they sent her a rejection letter. Coincidentally that was shortly after they were fully aware that our family income is less than $80k a year.
What new item that’s not on your application are you using for your appeal?
@fancyfirefox, I was told by an admission counselor, they aren’t fond of CHSPE applicants. I think that is the reason you were denied. However, given your GPA prior to and after CHSPE, it’s obvious you were wasting your time in high school. If you appeal, you should address the reason behind you taking the CHSPE. Personally, I am shocked you didn’t get in! I feel for your situation and wish you the best of luck!
@NicolasJ yeah how do you know it’s fully reviewed?
@fancyfirefox Heya, it’s really hard to say. I admire people that are brave enough to try USC or bust, but nothing is guaranteed. I would have said you’re as close to in as possible, but there’s always that 1% chance that you’re not. People with perfect stats have and will continue to be rejected. There’s no telling with USC. I would have admitted you based on your stellar EC’s and overall story. I thought I had a hook being a non-trad student, but that didn’t work for me the first time around. I didn’t even have a high school GPA. I was enrolled for one semester of 9th grade, but never earned any credits. I was so embarrassed when I requested two copies of my transcript (one for USC and the other for me to look at it) and it was completely blank. I was rejected by every single school I applied to. USC, UCLA, UCB, and even my safety of CSULB. I for sure thought I had a high chance at UCLA because I was offered to apply for Regents, but nope. With nowhere to go, I tried again the next year (but this time with more safeties) and every school that had rejected me the year before, accepted me this go around. If you really have nowhere to go, you have nothing to lose by appealing. That way you can say you tried everything. Who knows? Maybe a fresh set of eyes look at your application will be all it takes. Best of luck wherever your academic path takes you next.
@JustMom2022 FA really is independent, it’s about the right classes and gpa for transfers, then of course the competition and fit for what they want/need. The counselors give all kinds of random deadlines. One applicant was told the 29th was the day for results and they came out the next day, happens all the time.
Also, the free tuition for students with less than 80K income only applies to freshman starting fall, not transfers. They still use CSS profile, and there were several in regular admissions surprised to learn other assets count (parents owned things, just didn’t have high income) so they didn’t qualify. They consider those assets as able to be sold to pay for the education. Just including this for others reading…
@JustMom2022 I wanted to clarify, so she had a SGR but was rejected before her quarter even ended? Wow I’m sorry they set that expectation.
@CADREAMIN Is it common for SGR people to get rejected before they send their grades in June?
@fancyfirefox I think they might have been hesitant because I was less than half-time my first two years of CC. The third year (the year I applied), I was finally able to take a full load of classes (18 units in the fall, 9 in the winter, and 21 in the spring). I had maybe 20 units (probably less) before starting the 2013-2014 academic year. So maybe another year of full-time classes is what they needed to see from me given my limited academic history. Also, I believe you can ask, but the attitudes vary and they won’t always tell you why you may have been rejected. I’ve always wanted to know why I got rejected the first time. I was given a new counselor the second time around, but he was involved with the scandal and he’s gone now.
does anyone know how financial aid is sent out? I know I should receive my package sometime this week but I’m just curious if it’s automatically sent out after the processing time is complete or if someone from the FA office needs to hit a button and then it gets sent to me. (I’m literally imagining a guy at a desk pressing enter on his keyboard and it appearing on my FAST portal lol)
