2020-2021 USC Transfer

Does anyone know how USC calculate your transfer GPA? Or they just look at whatever GPA is on your transcript? Is having A+ a plus (Lol…) than A, even though my current school count both as 4.0?

How important is it to have the global perspectives GE courses done?

@transferr2020 I believe USC will look at your overall GPA from your current school that is listed on your transcript when considering whether to admit you. If you are admitted, they will only count transferrable courses towards your transfer GPA at USC. I am not sure how to answer the A vs A+ question. I don’t think it will make a big difference but I am not a transfer counselor.

@idislikemyself The school is primarily focussed on completion of the core literacy GEs. It wouldn’t hurt you to get the global perspective GEs done before transferring but it shouldn’t be a big deal if you haven’t completed them. Remember that a course from your core literacy categories can be used to satisfy the global perspectives requirements! My Intro to IR class satisfied both GE-C and GE-G when I transferred.

@vegastransfer Thank you!

If I am planning on transferring for the fall of 2020, would it be bad if I didn’t have full schedule this spring semester? I would’ve had a full schedule this fall and last year, just not next semester. Planning on taking only 6 units to finish the ge that’s left. Also, is it normal to not have to put in college coursework in commonapp?

hi everyone! i’m currently a student at usc and i was actually in the same spot as many of you. i was applying to transfer into usc and i had so many questions about the application process. therefore, i decided to come back and help out in any way possible. however, i plan on making a youtube video where i answer all of your questions. if you guys have any questions, then feel free to pm or tag me! i’ll also be going through the thread and answering some questions. thank you and fight on! :v:

Just started my essays and decided that it was time to come check out CC! Anyone else applying as a junior from out of state?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to graduate at the end of the fall semester instead of the end of spring? Does USC only have a spring commencement and not a fall one? I was just wondering because I plan on transferring in as a junior in fall 2020 and wanted to see if it would be possible to graduate a semester early to save a bit of money.

@AndyWarski sooo, they only accepted 90 from Pasadena city college this year. Maybe not a “lot” of them.

@TayDee do you have to do a test for their masters program??

@uscpls for CS major look no further than UC Berkeley !

@zettasyntax I wonder how long they take reviewing each application with so many transcripts and all. I myself send a transcript from not only a single school neither

@vegastransfer if you attended several CC’s do they summarize all GPA’s or they just take into consideration the school you’re transferring from.

@zettasyntax you explain about the W’s in your main essay??

I forgot, once you submit your application on the Common App is when they email you the instructions you create your FAST profile? You know, to see the status of your app and all…

Is anyone else not being allowed to enter courses taken into the common app? It says “You do not need to enter any coursework for the programs you have selected.” Kind of strange because the previous semester I was able to enter grades and now I cannot. Also, when should I send my transcipt over to USC?

@Doodlesack I’m not sure, to be honest. I would guess that your admissions counselor is responsible for managing your transcript and whatnot. I’m just still not sure how they managed to lose my GED when I applied a second time and switched counselors, haha. Maybe my first one wasn’t the best at being organized. There might be some AMA on reddit soon for transfers, so that would be great to ask. I don’t like how the first one for freshmen went though, lol. He was a bit too silly for my liking, but maybe I just didn’t get his humor.

I didn’t get a W until after I submitted my application, but I didn’t explain it either. I didn’t want to sour their opinion of me and this seemed like a case where staying quiet was perhaps the better option. Although, I don’t think anything would have happened had I explained myself. I had a pretty valid reason for my W.

I was admitted as a first-year student but I live on the other side of the country and I had family issues that prevented me from going all the way to California. I explained what happened in one of my essays, but would rejecting my acceptance before negatively affect me?

Also, the commonapp doesn’t have a place to add high school guidance counselors for transcripts so…how do we do that?

@zettasyntax do they still consider you even after the transcripts arrive past the 1st feb deadline??

@Doodlesack They are going to take into account the grades from every institution you attended. They will definitely ask for transcripts from each CC too plus high school. Generally, the more recent grades are weighted more heavily than older grades.

Also, transcripts can arrive after the Feb 1st deadline. Feb 1st is the deadline for the application. Supporting documents can be submitted later but try to submit them as soon as possible.
