Hey guys! I started my transfer application to USC today and I have many questions! I was offered the TTP and am wondering if there’s anything “extra” I must do? Do I apply as a normal transfer student or is there a portal for those offered the TTP?
Also, for transcripts, can I send my high school transcripts through Parchment? From what I’ve seen, it says to either mail or email my transcript but my high school only allows us to access them through Parchment.
One more thing, I don’t quite understand the last writing prompt. “For each college or university term (excluding summer) in which you were enrolled in less than four semester-unit courses or three quarter-unit courses, please provide a brief explanation as to why you were unable to enroll full time. (Approximately 250 words)”
My first idea was to leave it blank, but there is a red asterisk on it, meaning it is required. I was enrolled full-time for Fall 2019 and will be full-time in Spring 2020, what do I do?
I’m applying for a spot in the cognitive science department as a transfer student. I’ve had a fairly strong semester (4.31/4.0 GPA), and I think I tailored my essays quite well that will give me a decent application that should help me my chances towards admission. I’ve been working on the application since mid-October.
My biggest weaknesses by and large within my application are (1) my high school GPA (2.8 o o f) , and (2) the lack of units I’ve completed (18 from IB + 32 over the academic year, 34 units total when I applied). Both the first year writing component and the math requirement have been completed, but I only have 3/8 GE courses completed currently, which will bump up to 5 by the time spring semester ends in mid May. I’ve received 2 very strong letters of recommendation (their words, not mine), from an English professor and a professional connection.
@ponywony04 I’ve only completed the (three)* supplement essays. I believe the personal statement in the documents tab is to explain any circumstances behind Ws or low grades?
@WhiteDragonKorea Your high school GPA does not really matter all that much in transfer admission to USC after you have 32+ units of college coursework. They will mainly focus on your college GPA, course selection, and essays. You said you will have 5/8 GEs completed after this upcoming semester. That puts you in a good spot since you can only transfer in 6/8 GEs anyway. You are likely to get an SGR (Spring Grade Request, in case you have not snooped around previous threads on here before) since you will be working on some GEs and are a sophomore transfer with a lower HS GPA.
Just focus on having a good spring semester at your current school and hope for the best with your transfer applications.
Does anyone know how much USC takes into account your HS gpa and transcript if you apply in the spring of your freshman year with 15 credit hours complete from the fall and you have 15 hours in progress that spring?

@franzgzlz USC generally stops caring about your HS GPA after 32 units of coursework are either completed OR in progress. Since you will only have 30 units completed by the end of the spring semester, they will likely pay some attention to your HS GPA. That was one of the reasons I did not apply as a sophomore transfer and ultimately ended up waiting another year. I dropped out of HS and got a GED, so the junior transfer route was the best choice in my situation.
@seabee91 Send your transcripts directly to USC. They do no participate in the CommonApp transcript verification service.
@oyusof73
My daughter who is in TTP has an advisor who is assigned to her and has had a couple phone meetings and he mapped out literally all she needed to do for TTP. You do still apply through Common App as a normal transfer but you being in TTP is noted in the system already. She just emailed her advisor to ask that specific question yesterday. Also there is a TTP for the class of 2024 Facebook group where we have had a lot of questions answered that we didn’t want to bother her advisor about. Hope that helps!
Any TTPs here? I am currently at a school that goes by the quarter system. I am applying for CSBA with a current GPA of 3.86. Does TTP give me a greater chance of getting in?
Does USC really care about your essays, or is it more or less GPA and GE completion? I’ve heard mixed things, with some saying it’s all a numbers game and others saying that the essay can actually make a difference for transfer admissions.
@kimnyogan I remember during my ttp meeting, my ttp counselor said GPA is the most important thing when it comes to transfer admission. He even told me that extracurricular isn’t that important when it comes to applying transfer. So I guess keeping up the GPA and get some GEs done should be more than enough.
For TTP transfers yes, gpa and transfer credits are most important. But essays should not be underestimated in terms of importance. For “regular” transfers the essays are important too. This is what can separate an applicant from another. You should express sincere interest in USC and what you will bring to the student body, not just what you will get from it. It is true that ECs aren’t as important for transfers as they are for freshman applicants , but if they compliment your major and areas of interest they certainly can only help.
Can anyone give me some insight on my chances? Applying as a sophomore CS transfer from Ohio State University for Fall 2020.
College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: 3.4 (HS transcript not required correct?)
Credits entering Freshman year: 74
Credits after Freshman year: 103
EC: Ohio State Club Swimming, Engineering Scholars (OSU), Hackathon (OSU)
Awards: Eagle Scout, National Merit Commended, Maximus Scholarship (OSU)
Will get a good rec letter from my Software I professor
I have a software development internship for this summer but I don’t know the best way to include that.
Has anyone who has sent USC their updated transcript, reflecting Fall 2019 grades, seen it updated on their USC portal? I sent USC my latest transcript and confirmed delivery, but hasn’t updated on my portal. Thanks.
I was enrolled in three classes for one semester but it totaled 14 units (considered a full time student). Do I still have to write the last essay where it asked to explain the reason why I’m not a full time student?
^^^No, they will see you had 14 credits. Not sure clarifying is good because if you answer that question, you are in a sense saying you were not full time since it is for those that were not full time. They will see the 14 credits on your transcript. That won’t get by them.
This might be a really dumb question but i am applying to transfer bc i received the TTP and i met with a counselor in may. So when im applying through common app, how will they know that i was offered the TTP? Theres not like a button that i have to press on the common app right? so sorry if this is a dumb question haha im just a little anxious right now and im just unsure.
No dumb questions. They have a file on every applicant, so they still have your freshman file that will roll into this one… and yes, it will be flagged as TTP. In your essays it wouldn’t hurt to work in TTP somewhere and how excited you were to get that offer…
