Our son is a double legacy (both my wife and I graduated from USC) and he was offered TTP last year. As of today, he has only received a Spring Grade Request (Apr 14), his Spring semester grades were posted today from his CC and he was able uploaded his transcripts to the USC portal earlier. Like yourself, he has not received a decision. He is being extremely patient, he believes USC will make a decision by the end of this month, like their initial communication stated.
Quick question, what would look worse on a transcript: a W or NP (no pass on a pass/fail system). I don’t think ill get a SGR because I already have 3 years worth of
consecutive college transcripts and have completed all my requirements. However I think I remember @CADREAMIN mentioned that sometimes USC might do conditional acceptances. I’m not doing very well in one of my current classes. I do have a few W’s on my transcript, but which I know USC doesn’t like to see so I’m unsure which route I should take. Neither will affect my GPA in the end, but i’m not sure which one would look worse.
Has anyone heard anything directly from an admissions counselor how this year’s acceptance rates are looking like? I know that they accepted a lot of freshmen this year, presumably due to covid and the scandal combined, so was wondering if anyone knew anything about transfer rates.
@mapofthesoul With that many course credits, it is not likely to make a difference and assume it is on a non critical course. If I had to pick, a W would be better than a NP (which is a fail), but in your situation not that relevant. Conditional acceptances are usually when gpa sorta borderline to begin with, and they don’t want it to fall further. They aren’t handed out that often, but we hear of a couple/few every year when someone says, “what does this mean” on their acceptance letter. I wouldn’t even worry about getting one.
I am thinking to P/F one of my classes this quarter because of the whole COVID-19 situation. I left the US and went home to my parents and have been doing classes from 12am-3am which has really taken a toll on me. The class isn’t a pre-requisite for my major (Communications) and I was planning to do this after they asked for an SGR but I still have yet to receive one.
@anervouswreck A lot of students are having trouble. Heck, I technically failed one of my grad courses last quarter. I need to get a 3.3 in almost every class I take and I got a 3.0 in one course =\ It just means I need to take one extra class, but these times are definitely stressful. I’m sure USC will have to be more understanding than ever this cycle (well to a certain degree).
Do you guys think decisions will be released today?
@anervouswreck I would hold off on committing to that if you are waiting to hear back from USC. My CC is about 20 min from USC and our MESA director has close ties, and the information she shared with me is that USC has been in the conversation with other UC’s regarding accepting P/NP for this semester due to COVID. Most UC’s have agreed to accept this, however, USC is stating they consider a B or above to count as a Pass.
@arjauregui I HOPE they do. I feel pretty confident in saying they are going to start a major wave this week. Anything beyond this would just be crazy. We’d be halfway done with the month before people started hearing back at that point.
But I also recognize how unprecedented this is so who knows. I wish they would just release all their decisions this week to help with some of this stress people are feeling.
@swagoo123 hiii!! I applied to Marshall! wbu?
@helpmeplease2022 same! what day did u get ur sgr? kinda worried now that I didn’t hear anything yet
@swagoo123 Same here. Haven’t heard anything back and it’s now making me nervous. Do all applicants get sgrs? I do have above a 3.7 but was wondering if that made any difference…
For anyone who got a SGR and their semester ends later than others (mine ends June 8th), I just called USC and they said if you receive a SGR they wait until a later date to review your application again so everyone has a chance to send in their grades before they look at the applications again.
so essentially USC has made a decision for those who haven’t received an sgr?
@Dudu123456 It may still be possible to receive a SGR
@usctransfersquad here’s to hoping!
@Dudu123456 I’m not sure about that and I doubt they would answer that question if I asked them, but just for those who already have an SGR/ will receive one just to clarify they wait until a later period because they know not everyone ends at the same time and it would be a screw you to the people who end later if they made decisions on a rolling basis for SGR people
Do the people that got SGR already have a better chance than the rest already? Are they USC’s priority or is it just the fact that the university does not have enough information on that person.
Every day that passes without hearing anything makes me feel worse and worse… I’ve already started drafting my appeal letter in my head
hoping something comes out tonight or friday! it’s hard to not stress in times like these but eventually we’ll all receive a decision. SGR or no SGR, we can do this! wishing you all the best of luck with your transfer process with or without USC
