2020 Bryn Mawr (BMC) student here! Question about campus life

Current staffs and students of BMC! Which do you see more often on campus, totes(professional kind) or backpack(typical high school)? Or is it half and half? If more people use totes and such, which brand is the most common? I kinda just want to fit in. I know this is a private school and people might come from affluent families, but I’m not.

Thanks in advance.

@rrrrrrrjjj this question is so sweet. While I haven’t attended Bryn Mawr and can’t answer your question specifically, my impression from knowing several Mawrters and toured etc. is that the school is not so concerned about brands. Maybe Duke is more concerned . . . .? (Waiting for Duke families to correct me.) In any event, it seems like at Bryn Mawr what’s valued more is your personality and thoughtfulness. Bryn Mawr community seems to value (and I’m sure that you will find exceptions here) your intellect, your inner drive for personal excellence, your ability to treat others fairly and with respect (the honor code). That sort of thing. Less, probably , is the brand name of your totes and sneakers and pajama bottoms. If I were sending my daughter here I’d say: what do you need? She’d pick up her whatever to carry her whatever in. Also, at Bryn Mawr, at least in years past, they hand out canvas bags that correspond with your graduating class. Each class has a color associated with it. You get that color at the lantern ceremony (if i’m remembering correctly) and then you also get swag associated with that color. In recent years at least, a big tote bag (not the brand) was given to a class in that class’s color. No worries! You’ll find your peeps! You’re going to have fun! It’s a gorgeous campus and what a wonderful learning environment.

I can’t imagine that BMC would be terribly different from many other colleges in terms of apparel – many people at most schools carry backpacks, but a fair share carry totes. It seems as though the Longchamp Le Pliage is probably the most common totebag/purse, followed by Kate Spade and Michael Kors.

As the previous poster said, I can’t imagine anyone would care either way - just use whatever works for you ergonomically, practically, and so on.
