Stay safe @jym626
Thanks. To clarify, the winds HERE aren’t that high (yet). Those are the sins speeds at the current storm line.
Oops autocorrect above - the wind speeds!
But, tornado warnings here now. Heading to the basement.
Hope you made it thru ok @jym626 . We’re about to get slammed here in the next hour or two.
Thanks, @ChaosParent23 . We are ok. Went down to the basement around midnight and slept down there. Alerts kept going off on our phones throughout the night, and there is debris down, but we didnt lose power. Many others did. Its now heading to and up the coast. Please stay are, everyone.
It supposed to get very windy here later. I’m just hoping we don’t lose power.
Looking at the bright side…there aren’t very many plane flights to be cancelled…
We came thru just fine. A tornado went north of us, but it was weirdly calm here. Not much lightening and only spurts of high winds. Tons of rain though! Our phones woke us up with the tornado warnings and Dh asked me “Ok, where are we going to go?” Good question b/c there’s not really any good place in this house. Thankfully it never got to that so we let the kids sleep.
I am watching the news and they said that yesterday’s and last nights storms spun off more than 40, yes 40 tornadoes!!
The storm hit the coast and headed north. Everyone ok? (and ack for the weird autocorrect above—stay SAFE).
We had high winds but never lost power. It’s a nice day today! Sunshine, wow! I hate April in Maine.
Winds have finally died down here in NC and it’s gorgeous! A bit chilly considering the 70s and 80s we’ve had recently. Glad everyone made it out of the storms alright.
Dh teases me that I’m terrified of storms… I say I have a very healthy respect.
Chilly, but sunny here. And no more wind. That was quite the day yesterday!
I never got the high winds (in my town) we were forecasted to get and didn’t get the t’storms, either. One line was just to the west of where I live and another to the south. Just got rain for about 1/2 hour.
Here we go again - one week later and expecting more severe thunderstorms. ugh.
The first two weeks of April here were the wettest for the same period in 16 years; second wettest in 47 years. Colder than usual, too. Figures.
We’ve had 2 weekends of horrific thunderstorms, flooding and some tornadoes. Guess what is predicted for tomorrow…
Climate change? What climate change…?
On the travel front, it is very easy to fly now. It is a little depressing, as the airports are so empty, but the airplanes are extremely clean and there is plenty of room to spread out. Most flights only have 3-6 passengers on them, everyone gets their own 6 rows. No worries about someone reclining into your lap. The only service you get is a bottle of water and some bagged snacks, if you’re lucky. Nobody wants them anyways.
Huge numbers of flight cancellations and very limited choices. Where you used to have a direct flight, now you might need to take 2-3 legs. Fortunately, most carriers are at least cancelling a couple of days out, so it’s not last minute changes. Flights are going early, so if you aren’t at the gate 30 min early, the flight could be gone.
Fares started out really cheap (I paid $35 from SEA to SFO and $49 DEN to SEA at the last minute), but are now at a more reasonable rate. A lot of people wearing masks, but not everyone. Security is a breeze, you see more flight crew at the airport than passengers.
@busdriver11 stay safe
My transportation challenge today was calling Air Tahiti Nui and trying to get refunds for 5 tickets I purchased for May travel. The flights are canceled but they are only wanting to rebook for travel through next June and they need to be rebooked by end of June this year. I also have two more tickets for same trip booked by my D on her credit card. I pulled the Department of Transportation bulletin that says they must provide a refund. They are emailing me my options which I haven’t received yet. Very frustrating!
DD and I were scheduled on the same non-stop flight that was cancelled & placed on an alternate connecting flight with 8 hours difference. I asked and supposedly will receive a refund (They just said it might take 21-30 days to credit). She asked and they said, no, only a voucher. No clue.
The weather, the reduced flights, what a mess. I keep getting updates about flight vouchers for our Delta flights that we cancelled (not them) but some of the wording is… vague.
