Same here in NY Cap District. Just yeuch.
I was worried because my SIL was flying into Detroit yesterday from NYC to come to Northern Ohio to pick up her car which they had to leave at the holidays when the transmission died - and her plan was to drive BACK home to Brooklyn today. Both yesterday and today had the potential for any mix of rain, ice, and snow for yesterday AND today.
Yesterday ended up being just LOTS of rain so she was able to land in Detroit and we got here to Ohio fine. Was foggy last night. Luckily woke up to nothing this morning and per her last text she should reach home sweet home in Brooklyn in an hour or so after driving on her own the entire way. I’ll be relieved when she IS home! Winter is SO hard with weather and traveling!
Wow. Looks like you NE’ers got a LOT of rain yesterday. There is another big storm coming across the west again (the news just showed the reporter reporting from Colo). DH is flying back from Chicago today. Hope his flight is not affected.
Well, another wicked storm coming. There is a kid missing in Colorado Springs and a big storm is expected. That’s terrible.
Where I live, we are expecting horrible weather for the next 2-3 days: “severe weather warning” with high winds, flash flooding, tornado warnings, etc. and of course wouldn’t ya know I have to drive to a medical appointment more than 20 miles away from my office on Thursday after work, and in traffic. Ugh.
No question…we will have snow and ice on Thursday. I know this because I have an appointment in the afternoon.
Maybe it will turn to rain.
It was 50 here yesterday and today…very weird New England weather.
Hah, we have the same calendars, jym and thumper – I’m taking my mother to a medical appointment, dog has follow-up for ear infection at the vet, and one of our cars will be in the shop for much needed brake work. Busiest driving day in about two weeks, and it’s the one that’s forecast to bring every form of water and ice that comes down from the sky.
3-5 inches of snow predicted for Northern Ohio/Southeastern Michigan Wednesday night into Thursday for anyone who might be flying in the area.
Looks like my appointment is 22 miles form my office on Thursday. This is gonna stink.
Good luck @thumper1 and @HouseChatte
Northern New England and being pelted with ice here. I had to reschedule a medical appointment for my mother, follow-up check on one dog’s hopefully-healed ear infection, and pickup of husband’s vehicle after its brake job. My day’s been a logistical PITA but at least nobody’s stranded anywhere. Hope everyone’s safe out there.
A lot of local schools didn’t cancel yesterday, and they should have. I had to drive into Portland to visit my son at the hospital, and the roads were awful.
Schools HAVE canceled today. Friends in Portland said the roads are pretty clear, but sidewalks and parking lots are treacherous.
I think I have some PTSD after surviving two wind storms over the last ten years that caused lots of damage to our home, both times at night when everyone was in bed. We just had another severe wind storm this morning. I had just gotten home from taking kids to school when the wind picked up and I saw that there were several tornado warnings in the DC metro area. Tho none were near me, the wind gusts were incredible and I texted Dh I was a little nervous sitting in the house listening to it! Our house is surrounded by very tall trees so it can be nerve wracking wondering if any will fall or lose large limbs.
Ironically, the guy from restoration company was scheduled to come today to do a walk through so we can sign off on their paperwork that all the damage has been repaired. Just before he showed up, the brand new basketball hoop that we just replaced from the Halloween storm, blew over but thankfully it didn’t get damaged. It’s still very windy but not as bad as this morning.
Watching the DC news now-lots of damage around the DC area from this storm.
Another storm this weekend? Hope it clears before next week’s travel.
Storm this weekend? Not here. We could have temps in the 50’s much of the weekend and into Monday. Not much of a winter in southern New england .
Where are the storms?
Its going down to the twenties here tonight!! And the weather said there were storms heading to the NE. Maybe thats later in the week. Maybe they were talking about this one? https://www.mlive.com/weather/2020/02/next-weeks-storm-is-a-merger-of-two-storms-over-michigan-to-new-england.html
NC just got its first winter storm. Very wet snow w/ about 2 in accumulation. My 12 yr old was out of school for 2 days. As a born and raised NE Ohioan, I can only laugh! But hey, the neighborhood kids had a blast!!! They’ll be crying the blues when they find out their teacher workdays around spring break are going to be taken away though.
I had a wonderful trip from Maine to Texas on Thursday. No weather or any other issues, wow! I love Southwest. Both legs of the trip there was an empty seat between me and the next passenger. And two free bags is awesome! I brought two, both practically empty, in order to take stuff from my folks’ house before it’s sold.
@MaineLonghorn Agreed. I USED to love Southwest. My last 2 flights were only about 2/3 - 3/4 full as well. Then they dropped the majority of the flights on my route. AND, raised the prices because obviously the demand for fewer flights went up. I guess all good things come to an end? Bummer. I’m still hoping once the 737Max issue is resolved, they will add some of those flights back. I was spoiled.
The last two times I flew to a Florida (Sept. and two weeks ago.) SW price for one way was the same as RT on Jet Blue and that was with upgrade to more space seat. So I flew Jet Blue.
SW is too expensive for me most of the time. Besides, passengers are rude. I had to fly SW last week with a connecting flight. The lay over was about an hour. Just in case it gets delayed, I chose a middle seat up front. My seat mates told me I was ruining their trip by choosing the middle seat between them. It happened again on the return trip. Now, I hate SW.
Every channel is blasting severe weather warnings and large tornadoes and for people in those counties currently under the tornado warnings to get helmets, shoes, pets, leashes, medicines and get to a basement or interior room. Winds are 75-80+mph at present. It’s going to be a long night.
