Hi just curious if you haven’t been given a decision yet why would you not call to speak to an Admissions Rep?
@skibunny2 I know for a while those who posted that they called admissions were chastised (on the forum) for taking up time that could be used to make admission decisions. However, my personal belief is that the time has come to call admissions if nothing has been heard at all. Others have posted that admissions says this will all be done by Monday in any case. Not that I believe in the deadlines anymore at all.
@ziveli513 I continue to login everyday with hopes that you have received your good news. When I see that you still have not received a reply, two things pop in my head. 1) Something is wrong. Your daughters application got lost in the shuffle. 2) Why have you not called admissions??? I know you are trying to be calm and collective, but I think It’s only right you have an answer by now. Anyone who applied EA and has not received an answer by now has been patient enough. Fingers Crossed!!!
@off2co11ege thank you for your support! Maybe I’m crazy, but posts here from people who have called admissions this week have received a similar answer, admissions is still overwhelmed
Lots of applications still waiting, says admissions yesterday
one post was from an EA who was told that their application is flagged for a supervisor to review ASAP as a result of the call, next day called again and basically no update
Admissions has told people if you don’t have an answer “by Monday” to call back
So for me, we have waited this long, my d had her application verified once again (since under review from 8/15) mid November when she changed her major, under review again that same day, got portal message 12/22 deferral and then postcard about deferral due to high volume
Then 1/24 her portal updates again to “under revuew”.
Frustrating yes but doesn’t seem lost any more than other EA aps still waiting as we thankfully have read here , helps to know what is happening to others!
Her application appears to be ok, but admissions is still scrambling by all accounts
And though only a couple, people are moving off wait list which means to me UP isn’t “full up”
I’m waiting for a first decision and then my d will contact admissions if it’s not an acceptance to fall 2019 UP DUS with an uw4.0 etcetc
we would accept wait list because we have until April 30 to commit elsewhere with no concern about housing choice being linked to commit date at her other offers
Psu Housing choices linked to commit date still concerns me but we will figure that out if hopefully she gets accepted!

NoUpdate: Just FYI - my S called admissions two days in a row and was told that his EA (PSU direct, not common) application should have been reviewed by now. The admissions counselor said that today and tomorrow they are doing waves of reviews, and that if he doesn’t hear by Monday - call back. Not sure whether the continual contacting of admissions will have a positive or negative impact on the outcome, but oh well.
This process has been mentally exhausting (more for me than my S), and I just wish his other schools (all of which he’s been accepted with scholarships) had his intended major. If so, we would’ve been out of this (disturbingly arbitrary) PSU process long, long ago.
Also, one last point. An odd one too. S was told by the admissions counselor that there is no magic time, i.e., 12:01 AM, for portal updates or decision releases. This flies in the face of people’s experiences here. Not sure what to make of that at all.
Has anyone received an updated portal decision during the work day? Not an updated status, but an actual decision.

Yep. I called and emailed and got a response to my email. Only after the email did they tell me my status was updated.
@MyaCocoa The ‘admonishment’ to not call admissions was in relation to people who were posting about calling constantly before the deadline. That seemed to defeat the purpose. However as I said earlier this week, this is absolutely the time to be calling and emailing if you haven’t gotten a first decision. They have failed in their promises at this point. I’d be bugging them for sure
Regarding portal updates: I and others here have reported many times that based on other year’s decisions, the portal times are random and not necessarily overnight. Especially towards the end.
When you call to get information make sure you are speaking to an actual admissions rep. NOT the people who answer the phones. The people who answer the phones can be students, interns etc…there will be differing info from them. You SHOULD get the same info from actual admissions reps but then again, this year, who knows.
Good luck to those still waiting. I’d be all over Penn State at this point. They need to feel the pain that everyone who is waiting is feeling

Admissions now told several people who posted here they are trying to get decisions out ASAP and hope to have waves out these next few days

But I think it’s clear unless u think your application is not “under review” as stated in the portal I don’t see the point in calling admissions
I have no reason at this point to think my portal status is wrong?
Once you get a decision you may want to cakll admissions if it’s not what you expected
If anyone out there EA or priority review who were promised decision by 1/31can post and tell us that they called admissions since 1/31 just because still under review and got a decision?

The point is to show a collective display of displeasure. Although all the phones might be more effectively directed to the Dean f Admissions.
Does the dean of admissions take calls directly?
About missing the deadline by a week?
Do you think that those who answer the phone make a record of the contact and pass it on?
If so I can see that it might help but I’m doubtful at this point , but I’m very interested to hear if we can reach higher ups like the dean of admissions
Has lodging concerns worked in past, last year ?
I met the dean of admissions during an alumni event I was invited to back in November. He was very nice, asked all the applicants if we had any questions about the admissions process. (little did I know it would turn into this LOL). I just spoke with a woman in admissions on the phone, doesn’t sound promising. She said I “should hear by sometime next week” and that they are “still working on it”. I don’t have a very good feeling about it so I decided to follow up with an email. Still waiting it out…
