@ziveli513 Yes I am EA. Everything was finalized by October 20th and I currently have the “your application is under review” status. Hopefully our wait will be over soon!
@annao2019 ???
Daughter applied priority decision in Nov. Still “under review”… OOS Criminology major
yeah never even got deferred, just never got an answer
Smh
If we shake our heads any more we’re going to give ourselves “shaken-parent” concussions!
I cannot believe psu did not send out email/update etc indicating the issues and what the “new” decision date will be- unacceptable that students are still waiting.?♀️
???@myacocoa
@MyaCocoa thanks for the reply. @ziveli513 I hope your child is accepted.
The below is stated to all those waiting:
I get the patience thing, but the facts are simple Penn State stated that you would receive a reply by 1/31 (can take a day or two to update in portal) it is totally reasonable to call and make sure that your application is complete and request an update (preferably in writing) regarding an expected date of notification.
I ask you this: Wouldn’t you prefer to feel comfortable there are no issues prior to receiving your decision? Could be something simple like waiting for your Guidance dept for a response. That’s something you could clear up quickly.
I wish all of you that are waiting good luck and I hope you hear soon.
@MyaCocoa yes I know your child is on the waitlist and I hope he is also accepted into his #1 choice too!
@skibunny2 thank you for your good wishes?
I don’t know if the following info helps anyone, but when we were at PSU on Friday they told the audience that when all was said and done last yr they had gotten around 70,000 apps. They said that this year they had 70,000 apps by Nov 1st.
@ziveli513 You know the saying, “the squeaky wheel…”. Your daughter has great stats, and I think she fell through the cracks. If I were you I would call, and explain that she applied in Aug, tell them she is a PA resident and loves PSU and tell them her stats. I would also tell them that you believe her application has gotten lost in the shuffle. You have nothing to lose. This is not the time to be polite in my opinion. I’m appalled on your behalf.
@skibunny2 Thanks for noticing our situation! I don’t know how some of you can keep track of who says what! But thank you for the well wishes.
We were EA, so I feel like we were promised a decision by 12/24 (and only in the 11th hour did that possibility become “deferral”.) It is frustrating because for months, in our minds, our decision date was 12/24 and not 1/31. Never had we foreseen deferral or wait list. So these have all been speed bumps for us.
In any case, maybe you saw my post where I wrote that I don’t know if PSU is my son’s #1 because he seems too upset for it to be his #2. Realistically (just playing the odds) his #1 is unlikely to accept him and we’ve always known that. Anything is possible though I suppose. Of course I am proud of him for thinking enough of himself to take that shot!
Best wishes to everyone. Let’s just joke and stay sane!
@citymama9 Wow! Just Wow! at those numbers. I think it would have been really helpful if PSU had communicated those numbers to all of us much earlier on.
Did they happen to say how many apps they got SINCE Nov 1?
We were at PSU on Monday and were told they had 92,000 apps as of then. He checked right before the meeting just so he could announce it.
Sorry for all of you who are waiting. I have been following along. We waited from August to December and that seemed long.
@citymama9 how very very kind of you, what a nice post with good wishes for my d to get an answer already!
You make good points about why I could call admissions, but all i read here leads me to believe that it is still psu being overwhelmed by high volume
And people are posting that when they call admissions they don’t get a decision, just feedback that “by next week” we should have answers
People who applied early action too
I really appreciate that you told us the high number of applications received, 70,000 by November 1, others have reported same
And now I see a post that says on Monday at psu they were told that 92,000 applications have
Been received to date!
No wonder. Psu should update people waiting through social media at the least
But thank goodness you citymama9 took the time to give us info and to commiserate
That’s why I’m ok waiting still. I know my d isn’t alone
Because my d has been accepted at 6 other fine universities (as of November) she is really not stressed at all
She still hopes for university park but once Pitt accepted her , her first accept, after only six weeks last fall it took all the pressure off, she knows she has good options
She was always hoping psu UP #1, Pitt was very close second and as time has passed Pitt is now tied
They want her, keep sending her emails and postcards etc
So as time has passed my concern about her being heartbroken has lessened. Which is a good thing! She is feeling the allure of the big city, we love Pittsburgh ahd know it well
We still hope and still are waiting before we commit anywhere to get a decision from psu
But I am not anxious about it any more, thanks in large part to all I have learned here on cc threads and because of being able to vent frustrations at the opaque processes too
thank you so much again for your kind concern
I’m disappointed in the way psu has handled the admissions process from August until now, for others as well as my d
Unfair is the hardest glitch to accept and it seems like that’s what is happening to many
@musicmerit thank you!!!
I hope a decision comes your way soon!
@242mom ???
@ziveli513 - @citymama9 got me to thinking. Maybe this is what she was saying, or maybe slightly different.
I, too, think you should call now. Why? Based on these numbers, thousands - maybe even tens of thousands - of decisions have probably not been reached. Is it possible that of that very large number, 1, 2, half a dozen… could literally have been miscoded and overlooked in the process? Could some people be getting bogus portal updates? One in 10,000 is a small number for sure. But if you believe it could happen to SOMEbody, why not make sure it has not happened to you? Why wait until, say, 10,000 - 20,000 more people get answers before you find out you were one of a handful that went into some database limbo?
I agree maybe those who call aren’t getting “answers”, but you (and anyone else who wishes) can make sure through a call that nothing is obviously amiss at this stage.
Nothing in life is perfect. No car that is made, no cell phone, no anything. There is some error rate - true error - to this admissions process. Would you rather have your “number come up” earlier on… or do you want to be the last few needles in the haystack they have to hunt down AFTER it becomes obvious that everyone else got their decision?
To put what I am saying in context, I am also one of those people who makes sure I get my own test results from doctors. (Nowadays it’s all done via portal anyway, but still.) I know older folks who think, “Well, if something were wrong, the doctor would call me!” As a patient, you are dealing with that ONE doctor. That ONE doctor has perhaps HUNDREDS of you to deal with and they can make mistakes. Call the doctor. Get your test results. Take charge. The only one who can take care of you is YOU! (I don’t mean this to sound preachy, but I’m just putting my previous statements about admissions in context of my existing life philosophy.)
Of course I wish you and your D, and all those waiting, all the best. I just fear, if our nerves are frayed now, what they could be in another week - or more. With these high numbers, I wonder…
@MyaCocoa I hear you, I am not shy to call or to squeak lol
I just don’t see the point at this time still. No evidence from those who have just called, even repeatedly, this week that it made a difference
Annoying wait yes but not life altering so far
But, if next week comes and no decision in portal I’ll rethink. Meanwhile I appreciate you!!
