Since we received the decision on Jan. 29th, I keep coming back to read the posts because I know how stressful it was to wait and I am looking forward to reading about the good news from all you that supported us during our wait. Its impressive how the people on this thread support each other and try to help. I know this may not matter, but I feel for everyone whose wait has been prolonged. Im hoping that everyone here experiences the same sense of relief and happiness very soon. The admissions process has been very flawed but I would like to share that it is a completely different experience once you receive the good news. Penn State, compared to others, has been very professional, thorough, timely, and supportive as it pertains to the post admittance process. I know this may upset some, as it would me, to know that the admissions process does not mirror the onboarding process. I am only sharing to provide some comfort that if accepted, your D or S will be in a great place, getting a great education.
@pama3115 Thank you for that. Keep coming with the good news about āafterā. I am one of the tainted now. I want that lovinā feelinā back!
@pama3115 ???
@ziveli513 Iām going to cut to the chase hereā¦
If you wonāt call for yourself, DO IT FOR US! Do it for the posters on Page 156! Page 155! And all the pages before! We want to know! I am starting a petition! Whoās with me?
WE ARE! CALLING ADMISSIONS!
WE ARE! CALLING ADMISSIONS!
Say it with me, @ziveli513!
Donāt leave us with a cliffhanger this long, looooong, lOOOOOOOOOng, weekendā¦
Omg ??? time to put down your device ?
@MyaCocoa. @ziveli513 I will share more of the post decision positive experiences but letās hear about your acceptances. They are a long time coming and well deserved!!!
Just my two cents, ā¦it cant hurt to call, ask for an admissions counselor so you know you are talking to someone with access to accurate information, ask specifically about your D or S by providing the PSU ID and as hard as it may be, let them know you understand how overwhelmed they are and be empathetic toward them because Iām sure many callers are not. No matter how hard it may be to not unload the warranted frustration, persuade them to help by asking for their help. It might not work but an individual whose been yelled at all day by callers might just go out their way for someone that is kind on the phone. Ps⦠I am not saying anyone here would be unkind but out of 1000s of callers a day, Iām sure admissions does experience some rough calls.
@pama3115 My S was wait listed whatever day a lot of those decisions came out. He applied in October and was deferred before Christmas. So in a way heās āinā I guess. I had just been on such a high after āSpendingā a Summer Day, this whole thing has been a big bummer. We really thought he would either be Accepted or Denied by 12/24. No other options.
@ziveli513 's situation is driving me nuts! As much as I want my son āinā I donāt want him āinā before people like her D get news! But then again, I donāt think my S should have been wait listed (nor should anyone else) so early in the process.
We are considering Altoona for 2+2, but when we Spent a Summer Day, he talked to a counselor about a triple major to include Russian and Mandarin. No other campus but UP has both languages. So thatās another letdown.
I really feel my S will wait weeks and weeks but if he doesnāt hear news before May 1 he may be more or less forced to attend elsewhere.
@MyaCocoa Sorry, thatās all they said about the numbers. They mentioned this in the context of telling everyone in the audience how lucky they were since itās been a crazy year. I think they should have hired a lot more people once they saw what was happening.
@citymama9 Thank you for your reply. Since I asked you, someone who was there Monday chimed in and said the applications had risen to 92,000 by then (what their audience was told). Very interesting!
Good morning all. Still under review. ? My d Sent an email politely asking to check on application
???hope others have good news?
Meanwhile got notice that Clemson (accepted her in December) is sending a merit scholarship offer
All that sunshine and football is so tempting, but so far away???
My d is pleased to be wanted, helps pass the time waiting for psu ?
She is going to visit Pitt again this weekend, as an accepted chem major (last October)?
@ziveli513 , wanna wear bright orange? Blah. Iām still logging in each morning and night hoping to see acceptances for your kiddos.
@sophley ??freshman year hs when my d started looking at colleges she said oh I canāt go to Clemson, all that orange ewwwww ?
We have so many penn state sweatshirts and t shirts and mugs and car magnetsā¦
Who knows ?, there is always graduate school
Update: S checked portal at 12:03 AM, and he was accepted to College of Engineering at UP for Summer Session.
He recently modified his preference to Summer for quite a few reasons, most of which stem from the fact that I was a Summer student in Chemical Engineering at PSU long, long ago. The opportunity to get a jump on the academics, make some friends, and become comfortable with a huge (albeit beautiful) campus is incredibly important.
Now - down to brass tacks. I had my S call admissions on Tuesday and Wednesday, and throw himself onto the mercy of the court. Use some social engineering. If youāll remember, S has had multiple people receiving their SECOND decision before his EA application received his first. His calls definitely made a difference as it brought his application into focus, and they obviously felt bad for his particular situation. While Iām sure that switching to Summer helped, I really encourage (especially EA no-decision kids) to get on the horn and talk to an admissions counselor.
Final words of advise. I had my S get a pass to be late/skip a class in school so he could call the admissions office during the day - say around 10:30-11:30 EDT. The call volume is lower during that time, so you shouldnāt be on hold all that long. Also, it doesnāt hurt to really play the sad sack card over the angry card - like in Court, like in life.
This is my first post of the day as soon as I got in to the office, because I donāt want to abandon all the āwaitersā still posting, hoping, and praying. Iāll switch my hopes and prayers to all of you now.
@PatLawyer congratulations!!! Thatās great news to start the day!!!
Yes Iām sure switching to summer helped, we have seen many summer admits
Not an option for us but hope helps others!
Great advice, good for your son for advocating for himself too!
@ziveli513 my son was waitlisted for UP in that January wave. He declined. I feel your pain with Clemson. My ds will be heading to Texas A&M for Engineering. 1224 miles.
I keep checking on this thread everyday though to see how you Peeps are doing and praying for you all.
@ziveli513 As your fan online here, I agree, call ADMISSIONS! We already went to accepted students day! Come on. Ask whatās up!
@amomoffour you are so sweet to still be checking on us!
My d sent an email before she went to school this morning with all points raised, politely
She is aware that the 1/31 deadljne has passed
And I told her yesterday 92,000 applications news
If no answer next week, she may call
Frankly as I have posted, I have tried to keep her out of this mess of psu admissions stress, so far so good
She is focused on her killer senior schedule of classes, and doing well
Seeing how unfair the admissions process has been to so many (a January wait list???)
doesnāt make me inclined to involve her and get her expectations ramped up for UP fall despite her qualifications
Thatās why we applied to so many other great schools, her offers have really made this not stressful for her though she is still hoping for good news with an acceptance to UP
But I really appreciate the great advice I am getting from you and others, so nice to know we have people rooting for her
And for the other EA still waiting ???
In my experience (at work and generally), emails are so darn easy to ignore. Face-to-face (or telephonic) conversations are really important from a social engineering context. Your D can (respectfully) assert her opinion, advocate for herself, and ask from some expedition. Just a thought, as everyone is different.
Oh, and being a lawyer, Iām always itching for a direct interaction to get to the root of things. My wife hates it, but oh well. She was dumb enough to marry a lawyer⦠
@ErRnMom Iām sorry UP didnāt work out for your son, Texas A&M engineering gain is Psu loss
1224 miles away, I feel your pain too! I expect my d to travel the world, thatās her dream, but as a freshman Iām hoping driving distance
Thank you for you nice post, Iām sure all here who are waiting are comforted by all the nice people here sending support and best wishes
I know I am, best wishes to you and your son
Texas is warm, thatās a plus for sure!!!
