I hope they did not fill the spots yet. My DS has a 34 ACT, NMF, OOS and has not yet heard for regular decision.
@prouddad2020 It probably depends on the the major. The girl who was the valedictorian of my D17’s class, also with a 34 ACT, applied regular decision to Penn State and was waitlisted for Smeal. I don’t think she ever got off the waitlist. She ended up in Temple’s honors program on a full tuition scholarship.
Still 'under review"… (applied 11/30)
@3MomSC : call Monday first thing

@3MomSC I was hoping you had good news!!! Yes call Monday, and email too, my d was “stuck” in some huge group admissions told me
I don’t know if my call helped but they definitely were surprised she still didn’t have decision when I called last Monday
@amomoffour @MyaCocoa @sophley @patlawyer @MYOS1634
in today’s mail there finally came a big beautiful white envelope with the words you are penn state and congratulations in that beautiful blue!???
I handed my d the pile of today’s mail, penn state was on the bottom
She saw it, her eyes popped, Her face lit up and she kissed the envelope and just shouted for joy
So relieved, so happy and excited
She said “I’ve seen photos of so many of these…finally I have my own!”
She took photos of the outside and the contents and posted them to her snap chat and Instagram
I am so very glad I didn’t spoil that long awaited moment for her, well worth the wait
though didn’t expect to wait from 8/5 until now ?
I told my d today that so many very nice people on cc were rooting for her and keeping track since we didn’t get an answer as expected by 12/22 and then 1/31
She just said well you better go update them on cc lol
And my d said a very big thank you for all the positive energy sent her way!!!
Of course after a few moments she stopped and said, oh wow, now I have to choose!!!
So now she’s in the driver’s seat, it’s up to her, now the hard work for her begins and I can sit back and follow her lead
Good luck to all still waiting for all reasons
@ziveli513 not gonna lie, I just cried when I read your post. ?
@penmom222 I just showed your post to my d
She grinned and said wow. That’s so sweet
?
@ziveli513 I had been wondering what time your mail came and if it might come today or if you’d have to get past Sunday! Congratulations! And thank you for the description so it was like we were there!
I realized last night that IF S gets offered Summer Start he will be gone in just 4 months. Trying hard to cope with that feeling! He was chanting WE ARE last night. I hope that he, too, gets one of those beautiful envelopes!!!
@MyaCocoa

I hope your sons envelope comes soon too!!!
And yes, the time for parting for college is coming. Tough whenever it comes, but we have to know that it means our job has been well done !
Yeah Z. Tears of joy. Getting a big envelope is very exciting. Congrats !
Now how to choose. We need a thread to update on admitted student visits and on narrowing down the choices. Visited Ohio State yesterday and was awesome. Got scholarship email from U of So Carolina today and I was so excited I couldn’t hold back the tears. Kids may think we are crazy. Still need to visit a few more schools including Penn State and cant wait .
Good luck everyone. Thanks for all the support.
@lenoir thanks!!! Yes , though waiting months and months for psu decision was tough, the really hard work is ahead
Glad u enjoyed osu, and congrats on usc scholarship!
When do u Plan to visit psu? And kids may think we are crazy but they are lucky to have us lol!
@ziveli513 , have her watch some of the THON videos on YouTube. She’ll commit. My SoD called me crying for a second year in a row after family hour and the big reveal. Such an amazing experience for our kiddos.
@sophley THON ??such an amazing gift
I am impressed by Penn State recruiting an accepted student to accept… my kid has had a CEO alumni send him a letter about his experience at Penn State. I was shocked how small the Petrouleum eng program is
@airway1 That is impressive considering the year the Admissions team had this year scaring and turning some folks off.
Congrats to your daughter @ziveli513 and everyone else who finally received an acceptance! Good luck to all with your decision making!! To those still waiting- good luck!!!
I have been on this chat forever, however once my daughter was accepted I have briefly logged on once in a while and skimmed as i never turned off post notifications (and never will LOL)
-D applied early august Early Action OOS
- switched to DUS from smeal around early November before getting any decision
- Early Action deferral December 18 (probably to not getting look at after sitting to DUS just a few weeks before)
- I believe portal switched from deferral notice to under review around Jan 27
- Summer start DUS decision Jan 29!
Now my main question, being Out of State where we live schools end a lot earlier! Does anyone know if for summer start kids can do summer session 1 ?
@krabbiek thank you very much! Six months was so long to wait !
@User7531 I would call Admissions and ask that question. Congrats on getting an offer of admission this year - it was a wonky year!
However, i would not recommend it. Why not?
-
Social - Most kids at summer session 1 are upperclassmen. Very few (if any) incoming freshmen. One of the benefits of starting summer is making friends and having a good peer group. She will not get that. Many of the kids that are there for summer 1 are athletes who are really training year-round, so the peer group will be occupied.
-
Academic - Since there are so few incoming freshmen coming Summer 1, most of the classes will not be classes for freshmen. If she is smart and sets up her schedule correctly, she can do it, but it will require some independent planning. Would she have even completed NSO? The LEAP classes are set up so that kids usually take either Engl 15 or CAS 100 (both freshman required courses) - I don’t know what Summer 1 would have.
thoughts?
