2023 PSU Waiting for Decisions

She deserves a break, her last real summer vacation. Let her do LEAP with other incoming freshman after a few weeks “off” (working a job, hanging out at the pool, meeting with friends…) And enjoy her presence as this is likely the afternoon time she’ll be around that time of year.

Congratulations!!

This board and the “admitted decisions” board have been pretty quiet for the last week. Anyone have any information on whether Penn will stick to the 2/28 deadline for those who completed their app by 12/31?

It’s supposed to be last day and got nothing in portal or email, you think they would release them at midnight?

12/1 application date and waiting for decision

Went to accepted students from Virginia 3100 applied to all PSU 1900 accepted… from the 20 students in attendance only 3 UP … from what I can hear

DS accepted Smeal! Just now on portal. OOS NMF. Glad it is over!

Exactly as promised by admissions portal just updated on 2/28 at 9:00 p.m. (PST). Daughter was accepted, major Kinesiology/Athletic Training. Good luck to all of you waiting!

i submitted my app Nov 30 and still nothing

Still no decision either :((

Call Admissions

Congratulations to all those students who heard the answer they were waiting for!

As for me… and my S still on the wait list… If he’s not admitted by about March 8, he’s going to have to make summer plans which would preclude a Summer Start if he were later offered that as the way to get to UP. I think he is firmly against an alternate campus; at least he sounded like that that last time we discussed his options.

Given that he applied October 22, to Liberal Arts, with stats more than adequate to gain admission through Early Action, I am now furious. I was patient and reflective and understanding and all of that. WAS. Since they are still admitting to UP, they must have been keeping aside quite a few slots. So they were never really “full up” - only in theory, and only in thinking ahead to how many more applicants would be in the pipeline.

What about my S who thought ahead and applied EARLY? What about the other approximately 4,000 wait listed early in the process?

I can’t even begin to express - nor should I here I suppose - the utter rage I now feel about how this process has gone.

My only hope now is that the end of March hurries up and gets here and my S hears a (very unlikely) Yes from his #1 long shot school, so I will never, ever, ever, ever, have to think about this again. I have 3 PSU shirts I got during “Spend a Summer Day” and I am wearing one today, but I can barely stand the thought. I can’t even think about my one that says “Happy Valley”.

@MyaCocoa Is your son happy enough with his 3rd choice, to which he already was admitted? Are there any other schools your son might be interested in that are still accepting applications? There are plenty of fine schools in your home state of Ohio and elsewhere. I know it seems unfair, and it does appear that the Penn State admissions process has been messed up this year, but your son can most likely “bloom where planted”. Many students are denied from their 1st and 2nd choice schools. Maybe it’s time to get excited about another school rather than focus on Penn State. Remember that the NACAC will publish a list in early May of schools which still have openings. In past years, there have been many excellent schools on those lists.

@kidzncatz I am ready to get excited about #3, but I’m not sure S is. He IS happy enough with #3 for sure. But not so happy that he isn’t still pulling for PSU.

He’s not at all interested in being in his home state - which is not a home state for either of us parents. It’s not like we’re native Ohioans and are going “rah rah shish boom bah” or anything. And he wants to spread his wings and be at some distance.

Yes, there is a “smart” part of me that realizes this is all happening for a reason and he’ll end up where he’s supposed to be. However, the fact remains that the process going how it has, has put multiple monkey wrenches in his other plans which do make life more stressful. For example, we should not have to be up in the air about his summer plans.

While we wait on the wait list, #3 is having accepted students’ days which we’re missing because… well, we’d have to fly and that’s more $$$$ and why spend that IN CASE PSU comes through and then that’s money wasted before we even commit.

I don’t know anything the NACAC so there’s nothing for me to remember re: that! What is it? Given the subjects that S wants to study, there are only maybe 50 schools in the whole US that have what he wants. And even at PSU, only UP has what he wants. So we were extremely limited as to where he could consider from the very beginning. There is truly not a world of options out there for him.

@MyaCocoa This is a notice about last year’s NACAC list, but there will be one coming out in early May 2019.

There was also an excellent CC thread last year regarding this list:

Maybe some of the 47 or so other schools that also have the subjects your son desires are still open to applications.

Unbelievable. I would be writing everybody :frowning: this is not acceptable.
Please, call and ask for a specialized adcom’, reiterating his stats, three majors which can only be done at UP, and add he’s been selected to spend the summer in China so you NEED TO know by March 8 at the latest.

Fingers crossed. Many here share your outrage. Grrrrrrrrrr

Accepted today!! University Park, poli sci, act 25 sat 1200, ap and honors. Good luck everyone.

What was your GPA? @avocadotoastyum
