I’m still waiting for the decision as an International student. Hopefully it’s coming out after my spring break.

@Britmom5 international? We applied Nov 7th… I think after nov 30th it will be end of March… I was going to wait until Jan to apply but I noticed he had everything done so we submitted early and really happy we did that

@Britmom5 based in Virginia at this end (but international as he will need an I20)… I called and explain his interest and our support that he goes to PSU…
@ChineseInUSA I’d really call if you haven’t by now… your in what I consider to be one of the toughest buckets of applicants…

@chineseinusa I think you need to call and ask from an admissions councilor why the delay… don’t wait as PSU is rolling out decisions
Also, what major did you apply too? Seems transferring to DUS helps
I applied to the Business school. But I felt like I should’ve applied to the Art and science since it is easier to get in. I called the admission and they told me that the International decisions are usually coming out in late March to April.
@ChineseInUSA I do hope they still have spots at the business school seems like they are waitlisting … any other schools your applying too?
@ChineseInUSA you are correct. The decisions for international applicants come out in late March/early April. You are getting closer to a decision. Penn State keeps a bucket open for International applicants so they are not “full” for you. They are actually not “full” for anyone yet (as they keep rolling out decisions), which of course makes the waitlist even more confusing.
@jlhpsu my son is international so the bucket would be for some majors not filled I would think… again that’s why I’m confused why they are still accepting applications

I will be calling tomorrow about the Wait List my S is on. I called two weeks ago and they said if we had not heard anything in two weeks, call back. Tomorrow is two weeks.
Fingers crossed. Do emphasize that his double major can ONLY be done at Penn State Main Campus. (I figure that at this point your son has given up on Penn State but you deserve closure one way or the other).

@cml123 Ack, long story. Reading everyone else’s advice, decided to add the Summer Start option. Right after that, we learned the trip dates for the HS scholarship trip to China this summer - and they conflict with Summer Start. So I had called admissions to discuss the (new) conflict, also that my son can’t accept an alternate campus due to his planned triple major. ALSO, I wanted to beef because I had seen other people post on Facebook they had switched INTO my son’s major to get accepted and IT WORKED! My son applied in October. So I wanted answers! Turns out the Wait List was formed of a random group of unlucky people whom they could not get to. I asked if there was an academic reason my son was waiting and they said, no, just unlucky. Call back in two weeks. I have no idea why two weeks. I am guessing at this point they are stringing people along to keep us calm-er. They did say they are trying to get through it all by May 1 (vs. May 15).
@MYOS1634 Can’t give up on PSU! Son’s other choice is - control the laughter - USC! We’ll know about that within the week, but statistically speaking it’s unlikely. Even if he does get in (he wants to, still) I would be hanging my head in shame at this point. The one he is in, U of Denver, I joined a group on Facebook hoping to “sell” us both. It backfired. We think more than ever this would not be the best choice for him. So there you have it. Mess, scandalous mess, and just meh.

I guess I may be the only one that finds this disturbing? As a state institution shouldn’t the decisions be made on the merits and not chance. Obviously, there’s nothing to be done at this point. Perhaps one might inform their high school counselor? It might be helpful for students in future years to know something about how decisions are made. At least counselors are in a position to see classes year and year and can advise accordingly about whether students should be pursuing more alternatives than they otherwise might?
I’m sorry, I realize that there are a LOT of pro-Penn State people on the board with true love for the institution. I mean, I get it. Hopefully this post does not offend you. I just think this is a big decision in student’s academic career and they would prefer to have more information rather than less.
Is this a common practice for admissions departments?
And oh my gosh, @MyaCocoa USC would be fabulous. But what a strange year for college admissions (especially given that USC was so prominent in the news last week–sigh!!) Thinking of you and wishing the best for your family.
