@collegeisrough Did they apply before November 30? It is exponentially more competitive after November 30 because spots fill up. Some of the majors just don’t have many spots. The other issues I could think of would be if the school heavily weights so their UW is low or their grading scale is very lenient so the grade is inflated. I’ve seen 4.0 candidates on this page denied for both reasons (reasons were discovered after a lengthy appeal process).
Barring that - there is some other anomaly with the timing or details in the application because in a normal admission cycle, with priority application, that would be enough to gain entry to engineering.
@colllegeisrough: have your classmate apply for DUS or another engineering major +summer session. Those state should be enough. S/he needs to call immediately and ask.
Everyone Will hear by 1/31 if you were EA, not as good as the original Plan, but considering they had never done EA before they will be a little more on top of things next year
PSU Admissions tweeted earlier today that they are back from holiday break and continuing to be rolling out admissions decisions. Keep an eye on your My Penn State account for yours to posted. Typically occurs after midnight Eastern.
My daughter got the same letter. We were told by a counselor that this was the first year they ever did early action and they were so overwhelmed. They weren’t “deferred”, they just needed more time to go through the applications. Unless you got a letter saying it was a deferred decision then you are still good to go.
Hi I’m an international student from China and currently attending a private high school in Hawaii. I submitted my Penn state application before 11/15 as regular decision. It is strange because my status update still says currently under review. But my American friends who applied later than me have received the admission decisions a month ago, while i’m still waiting for my admission decision.
