Been helping someone doing DO at Nova apply for residency. They are feeling intense pressure from MD candidates also applying for residency from same school. Being new is irrelevant if choosing between BSMD BSDO at the same school because DO students believe the MD students are getting preference for interviews during residency apps.
I believe they can only apply to one program BS/MD or BS/DO. A new program will have it owns set of challenges or unknows, just like ASU APME we are hearing it mixed reviews. For the BS/DO students they will have difficulty even in getting into DO college, they may not get the DO admission at all. I heard in general it is difficult to get research/clinical opportunities in Nova
Thank you âsdad2024â, and âtexaspgâ for your valuable inputs.
When do GWU, Case Western PPSP and REMS interview notifications typically come out?
Hello! My daughter is applying to OU MHSP and I wanted to clarify a question. Seems like the supplemental MHSP application in the Honors College application has only a few essay prompts. No other information required. Is that what you all who are applying understand? Seems like an extremely brief application in relation to others. Thanks for the answer in advance.
GWU-2/3rd week of Jan
Case - Last Saturday of Jan
REMS - Jan 31
NOVA MD program has had 100% match results for past 2 years.
And there is a relatively wide range of specialties students have matched.
Some students that have applied to Rochester REMS have received the following email:
Thank you for applying to the Rochester Early Medical Scholars (REMS) program. This year, over 1,700 students applied, showcasing the incredible talent and passion of future healthcare leaders like you. Our admissions team is carefully selecting the 50 semi-finalists who will move forwardâa task made challenging by such an impressive applicant pool.
REMS is a prestigious program that enables its students to matriculate directly into medical school, however, it is not the only path to a career in medicine at the University of Rochester. At Rochester, every pre-med student â including those not in the REMS program â has access to unparalleled resources: hands-on clinical research, our supportive healthcare community, and the ability to tailor their education to their passions with our flexible curriculum. With a medical school acceptance rate of 73%ânearly 30% higher than the national averageâRochester prepares all students to achieve their aspirations.
Our vibrant healthcare community thrives on collaboration, not competition. Unlike programs designed to weed students out, Rochester fosters an environment where faculty, advisors, and peers work together to help you succeed. With the Medical Center just steps from campus, youâll gain access to shadowing, clinical research, and professional development opportunities that will set you apart.
As you wait for the release of REMS decisions, stay tuned for more information about how you can get involved with these opportunities and more. We look forward to sharing further details soon! Regardless of the outcome, know that your passion for medicine is right at home here at Rochester.
Question to the experts in this group: Has this kind of email been sent in prior years to students who were not invited for the REMS interview ? or has it been sent to students who were ultimately invited to the REMS interview.
Its their way of saying choose our undergrad irrespective of whether you get into our combined program or not.
Thank you @NoviceDad
I have the same question. Wonder why this email has not been sent to all. We emailed admissions asking if everything is ok with application and if something went haywire. Did not receive any response.
Agree with @texaspg.
They are making a pitch for Rochester undergrad.
I do not recall any of my students receiving such email - this includes both groups - offered interview and not-offered interview.
Colleges that sent out info yesterday/today
Rochester REMS
Houston HMED
South Carolina - Top Honors Scholarship
Drexel Undergrad
Considering REMS came out today, did the student who got this email get in or was rejected?
D25 got that other email about 50 semi finalists. Unfortunately, we are not among 50/1800. Received that along with âdo you want to continue for undergrad or withdraw at this stage ?â. We chose the red pill.
Seems like they were preparing the minds of applicants who are going to be denied.. lol.
Any advice for my d25
Is Houston HMED a new program? It doesnt say how many seats. The current school is only 60 seats but supposed to expand to 120 at some point. The 3.5 and 500 minimums are quite low but people have gotten burnt in the honors program in the past.
REMS is actually an elite program comparable to Brownâs since their undergrad and medicine were usually ranked in the 30s. I have known someone go there over a Yale undergrad a long time ago (2012). So not being considered is not a knock. There is a parent here from same batch whose son went as an undergrad, did medicine there, currently a resident close to being a fellow. So they are not lying about good training.
However, it is not cheap. So it is upto your family to continue with the app and deciding later whether that is the school to go to for undergrad.
Thank you so much for your response
HMED was started last year.
They take 6 students and interview about 20.
