I just completed the New FAFSA 24-25. Upon completion I noticed that most of the “Financials” fields are not populated ( for ex. Current Total of Cash Savings, Checking) - it just shows some type of an arrow. It never asked me to fill that in either. Will this be pulled in from the IRS? on the previous FAFSAs it was not able to do that and I had to fill this in myself. Any thoughts how it works with the updated FAFSA - just not at all clear on their website.
Did it say you qualify for a Pell grant? From what I have read, if your tax return info that is pulled in automatically indicates you have an automatic 0 (or very low?) SAI, it doesn’t ask you to fill in the other info on assets etc.

I agree. I assume your financial situation is such that the skip logic allowed you to skip answering questions about assets.

Okay, Thank you for that. I did not see anything saying we qualify for a Pell Grant after completing FAFSA, though. Appreciate the feedback!

Exempt From Asset Reporting (2024–25)
Certain FAFSA questions determine whether a student is eligible for an exemption from asset reporting. Applicants online may be able to skip asset questions if
- the student qualifies for a maximum Federal Pell Grant;
- their families adjusted gross income is less than $60,000 and they don’t file an IRS Form 1040 with Schedule A, B, D, E, F, H or C or, if they do file a Schedule C, their net business income isn’t more than a $10,000 loss or gain; or
- if the student or their parent or spouse received a benefit under a means-tested federal benefit program during the 2022 or 2023 calendar year.
(I am going to add this: Receiving free lunch just because everyone gets free lunch is NOT a qualifier for meeting the means tested benefits portion. Only those who qualified for free/reduced lunch per the federal program regulations can legitimately claim that they received free lunch as a means tested benefit.)

presently we cannot see the SAI and we are waiting for FAFSA form processing to be complete so that we can check if both the parent and the student checked all “authorize button”. FAFSA was submitted on 1/3 and still in “FAFSA form submitted”.
Anyone got their FAFSA form to the next stage – “FAFSA form processed” ?
Go to this link: Federal Student Aid. Click on View My Activity after you log in. Once there, does it give you the option to sign your FAFSA? I’m just suggesting that as a possible way to be able to sign it … no clue if that option will actually be there for you.
I am having the same issue. It says SAI cannot be calculated because of missing signature. I am positive all the signatures are there.
No, AFAIK, the only option is to wait until FAFSA processing is complete and then go and sign it. attaching the image in the email.
I know what it says. But the whole thing is a dumpster fire. If it’s possible to add a signature now, I’d try it.
I sometimes get a FAFSA unavailable message when I go to the FAFSA link and click on the (not grayed out) Access Existing Form button. But … if I google Federal Student Aid & click on the sign in icon at the top of that page, I actually can access my form … it’s the second option on the landing page for me (after My Aid). I have the option of adding schools to my FAFSA when I click on View All Activity. And from there, I can see my whole FAFSA. Weirdly enough, if I am able to get into my FAFSA through the button, the page I land on is totally different. It doesn’t have the View all Activity thing - it just lets me see my draft FAFSA. So I’m just wondering if this might be a workaround to allow someone who has submitted to be able to add a signature. Maybe not, but it would be worth a try.

i called 1800 433 3243 (Federal Student Aid) and the automated message tells me after you submit your 24-25 fafsa form you’ll receive a confirmation email to let you know we received it. in late january we will send your submitted information to the schools you listed on your fafsa form. until then you cannot make corrections and our agents cannot see your submitted form.

Very interesting. Curious if you were able to see the whole fafsa under the parent account or the student account ? I see a view all activity tab in parent account but i dont see it in student account. I will keep trying. thank you!
i was finally able to chat with an agent on the same topic. felt the agent was a AI BOT. All they said was -
When you submit your completed 2024–25 FAFSA form, you’ll get an email confirming that we received your form with preliminary information related to your eligibility for federal student aid. This will include your estimated Student Aid Index (SAI) and estimated eligibility for Federal Pell Grants.
We’ll provide your FAFSA eligibility information to your school(s) and state in late January, so you will have ample time to fill out the form and do not need to rush to complete the form during the soft launch. Once your school(s) receive your FAFSA information, they will provide you with personalized aid information in the coming weeks. Until your school(s) and state receive your form, they won’t be able to answer questions about your aid eligibility or status.
We’ll send you an email when your FAFSA information has been sent to your selected schools and when you can access your FAFSA Submission Summary on StudentAid.gov. The FAFSA Submission Summary will provide your official SAI calculation and Federal Pell Grant eligibility. You can also check the status of your FAFSA form on StudentAid.gov in late January.
Because many states have made changes to their aid processes for the 2024–25 award year, please review your state’s aid eligibility and deadline information.
You cannot submit signatures to an application that is processing. Once it is processed, you can add your signatures.
Processing of the 24-25 Fafsa application will begin at the end of January 2024. You will receive an email once your application has been processed and would then be able to make your necessary corrections and submit again.
I have to complete the FAFSA as student, because I am ancient. I used to work in financial aid. I’m just trying to provide help where I can. It’s probably not possible to sign until later this month, unfortunately.
I am not able to even see the information I submitted. All it says is: 2024-25 FAFSA is in progress. I wish there was a way to review online the information that I filled in. Quite frustrating
