Tonight’s the night at 8 on CBS. I’m hoping that it’s a more exciting season than the 19th. Looking forward to our usual discussion!

The starting line for this season is right near my house. But my DD tells me Brenchel from Big Brother are competing and I can’t stand her whiny voice so I am torn. I guess I will watch tonight but I might not watch the whole season.

Golf is still on CBS, so AR will be delayed. I hate watching AR in the fall because it’s always delayed by football running late & now the problem is golf.

I guess that is one of the advantages of being on the West Coast, where we typically don’t run into the interference from sports.

I can’t believe it’s time for another season already! Isn’t this the 2nd season in less than a year? Seems like Season 19 was starting in the fall when my DS was just off to college.

Missed it to attend concert-how was it?

Seems like the hour went really fast! Wow they started out with jumping out of a plane! That would have done me in!

The girls that were eliminated just made bad decisions. Though it’s very early, my initial thoughts are that I like the couple that won, the Kentucky guys need to stay cause they’re a hoot, I miss having an older couple (so many of these teams seem totally buff!), the clowns kind of creep me out (not a clown fan), the cousins from Arkansas (?)will be very normal but work hard. The jersey guys and the border patrol guys seem a little full of themselves. But, those are just first impressions.

Ok, so in the 20th season, you would think that all contestants would realize that you should NEVER go on amazing race without learning to drive a stick shift, learn to swim, and learn to row a boat.

We had the same comment at my house. Learn to drive a stick shift, get over your fear of heights, learn to swim and get a watch with compass, calculator, etc.

And read a map…for goodness sake, WHY would you go on a travel reality show if you could not read a map?? I have not seen that yet this season, but have too many times in past seasons!

My D has a list of skills she wants to learn before auditioning for AR - including rapelling, rock climbing, driving stick, and eating large quantities of gross food! BTW, I think I like the Army guy and his wife - glad they won the leg and glad that she got a chance to skydive. As a pilot, he has already had the opportunity and now they have an experience to share!

S1 called during the episode, so I missed what happened in the car to the sister team that was eliminated. Was her problem that she couldn’t drive a stick so the car got stuck? I picked up the episode as she was being pulled out of sand.

I’m just tired of teams from Survivor & Big Brother on AR. Does CBS think fans of those shows will crossover to watch AR?

The car that got stuck in the sand was just because she thought that area was where she needed to park to pick up her sis from the air drop . It was nt and the sand was too deep and she got stuck.

There are no mother/daughter, father/son, older couple (unless you count the clowns and I don’t), gay couple…don’t know how I am going to keep them straight. I don’t know why in your right mind you would do amazing race if you couldn’t drive stick and had absolutely no fear of heights. Don’t they watch past episodes? Maybe that is why they get cast though.

The eliminated team finished their empanadas, got their bags and entered the courtyard where Phil and the welcoming country host were standing about 80 yards away but they didn’t see the whole camera crew, etc and exited out to wander around the complex.
Their mistake allowed the 2 muscle guys to get the last spot.
Phil couldn’t believe it.

Thanks for the clarification, abasket.

I did see how that team lost. I couldn’t believe they didn’t see Phil, and neither could Phil. Teams feel bad enough when they lose, but to be told that no other team in AR history was so close to the pitstop mat and got overtaken by the team behind them was adding insult to injury.

Could it be that the producers select candidates based on the lack of certain skills? After all, is it possible that a degree of production is needed to keep the show relatively fresh? Don’t they need teams that are so cute the audience HAS to love them. And others … not so much.

Perhaps they do need a number of clueless, morons, and uber-annoying and despicable participants a la Team Guido.

Unfortunately, the “Jersey guys” aren’t from Jersey but from my neck of the woods here on Long Island.Worst possible stereotypes also. They’ve been getting local news coverage. Cringeworthy!

I just now watched the show online since it conflicted with Downton Abbey last night.

But they do have the ‘previous winners of another reality show’ couple - people who won ‘Big Brother’ which is something I’ve never watched.

I can’t believe the girls had tunnel vision and didn’t turn their heads when they were looking for Phil. Neither of them did. They deserved to lose for such a dumb mistake but at least they’re both to blame for it.

I agree - how can anyone go on this show without knowing how to drive a stick?

I like the Kentucky guys - they seem to have a great attitude and are having fun but it doesn’t seem like they’ll be able to win the show.

There were already a couple of minor conflicts within a couple of the teams. It may get worse as the game goes on.

Now I have a hankerin’ for some empenadas!

So, when you apply for AR, you put on the application that you are afraid of heights, animals and can’t drive stick. Then learn, or have lied on the ap. Just do not leave for these shows without certian skills, period!
Or do, and be bashed by all of us arm chair reality show experts who know we would be much more prepared!
Oh, and it was a really bad sign for the clowns when she was crying and talking about stress during the first leg!!!

It looked as though the flight timing meant a lot last night. The six teams who got on the first flight ended up in the top six spots at the mat. I don’t really have a favorite team yet, still too many there!

How embarrassing for the sisters. It’s bad enough being the first team eliminated but to make such a stupid mistake, wow. The previews for next week make it look like there will be a lot of drama.
