21st birthday gift ideas-male

Hi cc parents:

I need gift ideas for a close male relative who will be turning 21 shortly. I want to spend $100-200, but not more than that.

He will be traveling abroad a lot this coming year…so I think he could use something travel related, maybe…

He would not be interested in any type of tickets to sports games, mainly since he will be traveling A LOT and won’t be around the US to use them…and he probably would not want “hobby” gift ideas either.

Or alcohol related ;)

Something travel related sounds the best…any ideas?? Or something else not mentioned?? Thanks!

Cash or international prepaid visa.

iPhone, iPhone accessories if he already has an iPhone, Rubik’s Cubes are interesting for travel, Netflix membership

Jambox Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

How about a Seiko Watch?

agree with sosomenza–money! cash, cash, and more cash. i know that’s what mine’s gonna want when his 21st rolls around…

A 100 euro note should set you back a little more than $130.

Ifhe is taking an ipad with him, then I’d suggest the Logitech keypad. That costs $100.

Take a look at the Jambox on Amazon. I’m getting two, one for my 23 year old son’s birthday and my other son’s high school graduation. They got me one for Christmas and I love it.

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas! :)

I have to admit I have no idea what a jambox Bluetooth speaker is. I looked at it on Amazon…what does it do?

I know he has a watch, good suggestion.

I like the idea of a prepaid international visa card…
Do kids use any sort of attach

itunes gift card

Nice leather wallet filled with $Euros$

Cash may seem crass, but every study indicates it’s both the most valuable and valued gift.

With a Jambox he can play all the songs on his iPhone or any smartphone, for that matter “out loud.” It has a beautiful sound and is portable.

^^Thanks, viewer. So it’s sort of like an I-home?? Does it “dock” his I-phone? If it’s wireless then he doesn’t need an adapter plug for foreign countries?

I have to check to see if he has any decent luggage to carry…

You don’t even have to dock the phone. It plays it remotely. It also can be used as a speaker phone among other things. My son works at a music software company and they have these all over the office.

The sound is amazing.

^^Thanks, viewer…I better ask him before I buy it. Important question…how heavy is it and how much room would it take up in a suitcase?

I’ll have to just ask him what he wants or needs…this way no mistakes! ;)

Offer to pay the $100 fee for him to seek enrollment in the Customs and Border Protection Global Entry program. It allows a much expedited process when returning to the US.

^^07dad:

How does that work? He’ll be going on two separate programs…one for the summer and then home for a short time and then away again for the Fall semester…both are with established groups. He’s not traveling individually…

IMO I’d rather get him something meaningful that he can use beyond the traveling this summer…like a piece of luggage with his initials or some sort of attach

Here is the link as to how it works.

I don’t know if “traveling with a group” changes anything when coming through customs. What I have seen indicates that each person has to go through it one at a time. The Global Enrty enrollment makes the individual’s process expedited. On another cc thread it was estimated up to a 45 minute savings on occasion.
