<p>so my daughter turns 21 next month and I need birthday present ideas. she’s at tulane – so please – no alcohol-related gags. her birthday falls during mardi gras – need I say more?! ugh. at any rate – over the christmas break, she made it clear this whole idea of being an adult has absolutely no appeal, with the single exception that she now has better taste in socks. so I’m in search of gifts that will make her realize being an adult has its advantages. and I must admit – I’m hard pressed to figure out what those advantages are! Suggestions?</p>
<p>This is kind of a “boring” suggestion to most kids (although my D1 would actually be thrilled), but what about starting a retirement account for her with some seed money

<p>well…I just turned 21. Recent gifts that have gone over quite well with me, from my parents, include:</p>
<p>-nice watch
-black leather riding boots
-suede uggs (maybe not in NOLa though)
-jeans
-luggage for trips abroad
-lcd tv for my house
-stuff for my kitchen
-snuggie (from grandma! for christmas! in my college colors!)</p>
<p>a friend of mine just got an extension on his credit line for his 21st. no idea how one would go about gifting that.</p>

<p>In our family we have a tradition (which started when my mother turned 21). All 21 year old girls get a strand of pearls. My eldest daughter was thrilled with her pearls and has worn them many many times in the year since her birthday. My younger daughter is looking forward to her 21st birthday pearls in two years! </p>
