He was apparently bullied by ignorant kids as a child. He graduated with at GPA of 3.98 in Neuroscience.

Impressive

I find it hard to believe that no one in the history of Johns Hopkins has graduated with a 4.0. If so, kudos to him in a not easy major.

And, please, it’s JohnS Hopkins.

Intriguing story. So are the comments. I especially related to why he would study mind/brain/behavior.

Not belittling his efforts at all…

But other articles suggest that he had the highest GPA in this years graduating class, and was the first black man to achieve that honor. Bit different than highest GPA ‘ever’ which was the impression I got from the cited article.

I tried to find something released by JHU about Ohuabunwa but couldn’t. It seems a little weird that the claim of his GPA being record-breaking is referenced only in the title of the article.

I looked at JHU’s website, and I coudn’t find anything about him either.

Maybe he knows the guy who keeps sending me all those e-mails.

As best I can gather:

He had the highest GPA of current year graduating class, and is the first black student to achieve that status.

Not anything JHU would put out a press release about or put on their website.

Again, he did well in a difficult major, but not really news.

Yeah, but it is still an amazing achievement to be able to say he graduated cum de laude from Johns Hopkins!

@ hat: what are you talking about?

Well, in Nigeria it must be a big deal. A bigger deal than it is at Johns Hopkins.

@mom0809, It is a big deal!

First of all, he was able to graduate with a near perfect GPA considering that JHU is notorious for its grade deflation and cutthroat environment. Secondly, considering his background (being suddenly uprooted and starting over in a new country at the age of 13, attending middle school in the ghetto, being bullied and discriminated against by his peers), it is an even bigger deal.

Additionally, he will be going to Yale medical school! This guy’s story is such is an inspiration.

Yeah, the verry fact that this thread has gotten so many views & comments proves that it’s a BIG DEAL, he should be proud :)

Who cares, he has some amazing accomplishments and deserves all of the accolades he is getting.

Huh? I was serious HE SHOULD BE PROUD, he has accomplished much and will continue to do so in the future, I was disputing a comment someone else gad made about it being a bigger deal from where he is from XD

@moviepopcorn. I didn’t mean it’s not an amazing accomplishment. But several posters here went to the trouble of searching the JHU website and couldn’t find any articles extolling this student’s achievements. The newspaper that the article was published in was a Nigerian paper. To me it means it’s a much bigger deal to them than to JHU.

I think the person in the OP’s post has accomplished a lot more than I can hope to dream of. But so do a lot of people. They don’t all deserve a thread dedicated to them. People should do some more research before they post things like this.
