I am a junior looking to apply ED next year to NU. I got a 33 ACT and 2290 SAT (710 CR, 780 M, 800 W) Should I aim for a 35 or 36 ACT? Or will standardized tests not help beyond this point?

At this point, I think that that 2290 is enough. Focus on your ECs and other passions that will set you apart from the talented pack. You’ve got the academics – Now prove you’re a great fit for them.

Great score, by the way! :)

For the most recent common data set I can find, your M and W scores are first quartile; your CR is second quartile. You’re approaching the point of diminishing returns.

You don’t mention SAT subject tests. NU recommends two for everyone and requires them for HPME, ISP, and homeschoolers.

If you’re sure about NU, ED is the way to go.

Best of luck!

Your SAT is high enough that it probably won’t make a difference to retake any standardized tests. Go for your SAT IIs and make yourself a special snowflake through ECs.

CR is somewhat risky.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I will take some subject tests and go from there. I am just so frustrated about my CR score, as I got 35’s on both english and reading for the ACT. I guess AP Lang and Lit can offset any doubts about my reading comprehension.

Yes it is. Or just submit your ACT score and subject tests, that is what my daughter did. It isn’t so much about your scores alone as your “package”. I would focus on that.
