Will a 2290 be able to get me into duke? My gpa is high and I have amazing extracurriculars like club president and tennis where I’m ranked top 20 in my state.
what is the highest ranked college the 2290 can get me in? and do you guys recommend to retake it?
2290 is a great score for Duke or any other school. You can look up the median 50% range for each school and see where you fit in. However, the score alone means only so much for competitive schools. For most top schools, there is no magic SAT score that guarantees admission. Look at decision threads for Duke and other top schools: kids with perfect scores and great ECs often get rejected from one or more school. Duke turns down many applicants with incredible scores. Your ECs sound good, but who knows what each school will look for when you apply? Focus on getting good recommendations, visit schools to find a fit, and work on your essays.
Finally, yes, I would retake the SAT if you have only taken it once.
Don’t waste your time retaking it. Even if it is your first time. The different between 2290 and 2400 is a few questions. If you get rejected, a 2290 will hardly be the reason why. You’re in the top 99th percentile of scorers.
Neither Duke, nor any of the other most-selective institutions, has established definitive standardized test thresholds; your aggregate 2290 SAT I result is entirely competitive. You’re just fine; worry about something else.
2290 is a great score, and definitely very competitive for Duke. At this point, focus on making an impact through your activities and making good bonds with teachers for recommendations. It also wouldn’t hurt to look at applying ED if Duke is a school you really want to attend.
