2300 SAT, Mediocre GPA, Bad French!

<p>Can anyone tell me what chances they think I have to get into…(other college suggestions would be welcome)
Hugh Reaches- Dartmouth, UPenn, Amherst
Reach- Bowdoin, Oberlin, UVA, University of Michigan, Colgate</p>

<p>State- Massachusetts
Race & Gender- White (but I’m Jewish so I think that should help)
GPA: 3.7 W / 3.1 UW
SAT: 2170 (750 CR, 710 M, 710 W w/ 11 Essay) ; 2300 (740 CR, 800 M, 760 W w/ 12 Essay)
Class Rank: 30 / 169
Class Percent: Top 20 %
AP Classes (8): (Haven’t got any scores back yet, but they will most likely be some 3s, but mostly 4s and 5s) Junior Year: US Government, US History, Language & Composition. Senior Year: Calculus, Environmental, World History, Psychology, English (VHS Course)
Grades: Mostly As and Bs. My only two Cs were in 10th grade French Honors (79), and 11th grade French CP-2, which is down a level (73). This ended up destroying my GPA because it counted as like a 2.0 combined.
Trend: Freshman Year- 3.9 W
Sophomore Year- 3.4 W (3.7 W w/o French)
Junior Year- 4.1 W (4.6 W w/o French)
Senior Year- ??? (But should be about 4.5ish because I’m not taking French)
ECs: Member of NHS, Played Golf throughout all of High School (Varsity all 4 years; Captain Senior Year), Varsity Tennis Junior and Senior Years, Played JV basketball Freshman and Sophomore Years, Played JV Baseball Freshman year, Caddy since 9th grade (trying to get the Ouimet scholarship), probably around 150 hours of community service</p>

<p>are you kidding? given that you are new to CC, you are forgiven…but just understand, white, Jewish students are an over-represented group at the majority of the schools in the US (and certainly the ones on your list)…</p>

<p>now, if you want to apply to Notre Dame or another strong Catholic school, maybe…just maybe…being Jewish is an advantage…</p>

<p>You can’t compare the number of Catholic kids to Jewish kids. Catholic kids make up about 25% of the population while Jewish kids only make up about 2%.</p>

<p>If a school admits 25% of Catholic kids, then it’s representing America. If it admits 5% of Jewish kids, then it’s admitting twice as many as is represented.</p>

<p>However, I don’t like anything that suggests quotas, so I don’t even like this subject. Just explaining why you can’t compare the two groups.</p>

<p>If you say you have a 2300 SAT but you’re still not confident in what schools you’re going to be admitted, you don’t know anything about college admissions.</p>

<p>I don’t know of a single top school at which Whites are over-represented.</p>

<p>Your reach schools all accept under 5% that were not in the top 10% of their high schools classes. Being in that 5% generally requires a real hook such as being a recruited athlete, URM or legacy.</p>

<p>To add to the overrepresented list (and yes, Jews are overrepresented at top colleges along with Asians), MA is an overrepresented state. You are in an ultra competitive pool. You will do best at schools not in the North East. I think you would be in at Michigan.</p>
